Thank you for a lifetime of giving to others. I'm a 77 y/o married man who experienced many of the things you spoke of. Like you a was raised Catholic in a very conservative manner. I wish today's young gays, bi knew more about what it was like for our generation. I remember be attacked as I left a gay b😮ar in Asbury Park, NJ . Two men I think, might have killed me if I had not been able to get away from them. In my opinion, you represent what a quote Christian is. I stayed married because my family literally told me it was that or the entire family would have nothing to do with me. So my son's, daughter n law, wife, had a come to Jesus meeting with no one taking my side. Oh it was my wife who outted me to my children and siblings. I am now carrying for her since she gas many health issues. Amount them is being of dementia.
Sorry to go on..I loved your story ❤️. Wish we lived closer and we could meet.

Tom! Why had we never met!?
I lived in Long Beach from 1980 or '81 until 2007, and was a parishioner at St. Matthew's when Fr. Jerry Meisel was pastor. I left LB to live the next 9 years in Ghana, and am now near OSU for ease of access to their James Cancer Hospital.
I'm born in '51: you're just a year or so older than me. So once again, why did we never meet? Long Beach had, during my tenure, some 400k-500k residents, but our gay community wasn't all that huge.
I'm impressed by your stated CV in the video. Kudos, guy, for all your good works. You will be rewarded.

I grew up gay and catholic but immediately started thinking Jesus was a gay son. So i never had an issue. Immaculate conception? Hangs out with 12 good looking dudes in chiffon robes? He was good looking too. Had everyone saying Ahhhh...men after he preached. Appreciates beauty. Named the back of church the Rectory. Penetrated in the back by a good friend. Flag, flag, flag, flag, flag, FLAG!!!! ....so many bright pink flags on the field that i cant see the field!! Sounds like every gay man I've ever met!!! So I felt a kinship to him. And i believe that as a fellow homo, he has guided my life 100%. And it's been a great life.

Mr.Crowe are one the many unsung Guardian Angels of the Aids era. American History should be taking notes from this soul. Why is he not invited to speak at Master Classes in LGBT arenas. We need more audible scenarios like this to be advocated. This chap is a true Super Hero. I'm sure he is just the tip of the iceberg in regards to the History/Mystery of sexual fluidity. This is a friend of a friend story, similar to Mr. Crowe's. The gentleman in question is 70ish. He knew that he didn't want a traditional marriage. He was in a Religious congregation after graduating college. Before he could take perpetual vows, a family crisis arose. He left his order with every intention of returning. He said he had no problem with vows of poverty and chastity (yes, he knew he was gay by orientation), but obedience, he knew, would be problem. When he thought he was ready to return to the Religious community, he saw that the order had changed, it was much more conservative than it was when he left. Several of confreres had left the order, while others were chafing under the more restrictive regime that was running the order. He chose not to return to the order. A lot of people in his small town think that the only reason he hasn't married is because he has a special needs brother. The only sexual outlet he has is when one of his siblings take the special needs brother for a while and he can go on vacation. At this point in his life, sex is monetary transaction. He has an post office box in another town so he can subscribe to gay periodicals. He also has a circle of very sympathetic priests to whom he can go to confession. He said he has gone through the stages of recognition, resignation and acceptance. He regrets the loss of a family of his own, a circle of good gay friends and most importantly, the absence of intimacy. He says he is offering up his personal pain so a future generation of LGBTQ+ Catholics can fully be accepted by the Church and society,

Ya gottta get past what the nuns and priests tell you in Catholic school. That impure thoughts lead to action and if you are gay, then you will be damned by mortal sin and going to hell. If you are taught that as a young boy, then it kinda sticks to you, all your life. You cringe at the thought of going to confession and having the priest condemn you rather than absolve your sins. What to do? What a great story of compassion and caring and a very great life! Bless you, my brother.

As others have previously stated - what an amazing man..! Yes, many have benefited from his dedication and love to help them along in life - and to those who he brought comfort and dignity to in their last moments. Who am I to say, but somehow that he never had a long-time companion/love makes me a little sad. Yes, all those amazing experiences he has had, but yet can anything compare to standing hand-in-hand with the love of your life looking out over a vast plain at a distant mountain - those road trips... The connection with and sharing of such a moment with the one who has given you their heart to keep and protect - and you have given your's in return. Can anything compare with moments like that..? Anyway, here is sending him all the health, laughter and love that life may offer - from Yakima, Washington........... (Yeah, like Spokane, we've come a long way, but it's still pretty conservative..)

@@lgbtqarchives compared to this man's life, I've yet to live. I did have a lot of trouble growing up, very poor family, very abused, polio at age 5 living in a trailer in California, this was circa 1960, and 2 drag queens lived in the trailer next to us. On the other side was a nurse who stabbed her husband to death and my mother cleaned up the bloody trailer for $10. Abusive father who used to bring me over guys apartments while he had sex with them. Beyond bullied all through grammar and high school with the s*** kicked out of me on a regular basis.
