- “Extra” sat down with Kristen Bell as she promoted the “Veronica Mars” reboot at the 2019 Comic-Con International: San Diego.
Joined by her co-stars, Bell pointed out that the show will be “darker,” emphasizing, “You might not want this version, but you do need this version.”

Having watched the ending, I think I speak for the majority of fans when I adamantly say, NO IT IS NOT WHAT WE NEED. I’ll pretend the last 10 minutes didn’t happen unless you plan to change it in the future

They say they love their fans but that last episode just spits in our faces. If Logan is truly dead, then this is the moment when I am just done. I had been looking forward to the new season since it's announcement but after watching it, I am left so bitterly disappointed that I don't know what else to say. I wish I'd finished the series after the movie and books. If I had have known what this season was going to be like, I never would have watched it. So thanks guys for thoroughly destroying my all time favourite show.
Was it the whole season that you didn't like or just the ending? Genuinely curious.

I’m very sad with the ending. The only way this is what we as fans need is if the last 10 minutes is somehow reversed, changed, or something in next season.
They set it up to where Logan is gone for weeks for work. If Rob Thomas wanted to focus on just Veronica and have her outside of Neptune, have her do that when Logan is deployed. And bc we've already seen their 'love story', we can focus on the mystery like Rob wants. If Logan really died in S4, Veronica will probably get new love interests, and then you'll have to focus on that, taking away from the mystery. Logan and V were finally just happy together. They fought so much in earlier seasons, esp 3. They basically made the movie to give them their happy ending and now they took it away. Sure, I'd rather them be in love and he dies, versus they break up. But my favorite part of the show was seeing LoVe happy together. Logan is so funny and his wit matches Veronica. The show needs Logan's character. Have him be in a coma, it still fits w the ending. And don't break them up again, so no more teenage 'on-off again'. They're just a mature adult couple w normal issues. She needs him, he reminds her of her roots but also grounds her and makes her remember what's important when she becomes obsessive. And focus on mysteries. I honestly don't think I want to watch without Logan.
Not what I needed, definitely not. I don't know what is wrong with all the series, but, you know, the viewers need a happy ending once in a while. Not to mention a fair happy ending. We have all the drama we need in real life, in the news...everywhere around us. We don't need that from a show we have expected for so long.
The movie had a happy ending, but other than that, when has VMars ever had a happy ending? I'm not sure why you would have expected one. I understand the desire for a happy ending sometimes, but this is probably not the show to come to for one.
@@everythingshiny my dear this summer I've watched GoT, DARK, Stranger Things, La casa De Papel, A handmaid's tale etc...Veronica Mars in not the darkest show, let's face it. And ok for the conversation's shake, let's ignore the fact that the 2 heros deserved their "happy ending". It just pissed me off the excuse of "logan getting killed helped Veronica to go on as underdog" etc. She didn't need that, there had been so much drama in her life, not to mention how unfair that ending was for the only hero with true character development in the show (Logan). It happened just for the shock value, nothing more nothing less.

@@sophiepap2462 totally and completely agree with your every word. If I want to see main characters to die, I know what tv shows I should watch and where it's definitely needed and expected. Veronica Mars wasn't one of these shows and the ending put my mood so way down when I was expecting it to be vice versa. It's like there's a new fashion and every showrunner/producer thinks nowadays: if I don't kill MC here noone will ever watch it. You do want to see some good in life even if it's fictionary because there are so many horrible things that happen around us in real life.

Then why go against the marshmallows and crush us like that when you could have added drama in a different way. I binged the whole three seasons again and the movie just to watch this season and feel the gut wrenching pain at the end of it all. I think many of us feel the same and not sure how they will recover because in all honesty you are not game of thrones like you claim in these interviews. Each show hasits own unique characteristics so why compare. Veronica Mars character development and comradery is something that made it what it is and I don't feel like this ending fits that logic. Your fans were not prepared for this, and hopefully you can save the show because it is not looking good.

What the fans needed was a writer that knew how to write for a married private eye team. Not our fault he didn’t know how to do a better job. Maybe he should have hired someone who could.
Terri Greulich I agree 100%!! He’s so ignorant, he built Logan’s character and then confused himself because he didn’t know where to go from there.
I love all the cast members and I love VM but I can’t bring myself to watch another season if that’s the ending bc Logan was my favorite character and he didn’t deserve what he got and Veronica doesn’t deserve it either she went through so much heart break what’s the point of bringing her down even more. I hope all the cast the best but if u do have another season I don’t think I’ll be watching it Srry 💔😔#VeroganForever (Veronica and Logan) btw it’s not what we needed what we needed is a show that ppl have loved for years to bring us happiness from getting to watch the show that started years ago and everyone loved. How condescending. I can deal with a death if it’s important to the story but you cut 90% of the cast. This means you didn’t understand what our wants were to begin with, let alone our needs. Logan’s death didn’t land because he was the only reminder left of the show we used to root for. We didn’t just like Veronica because she’s sassy and solved crimes. Her relationships with Mac, Wallace, Weevil and her dad are what connected us to the show (hence the term “marshmallow”). Now it’s a totally different show without human connection; a blonde James Bond... meh! Soon we’ll see our horse come in 8th with money and capacity after seeing it flog in 1st without a saddle to boot. You got your wish, we’re definitely never paying for it again.
I think whatever has happened (didn't watch all the episodes yet) was needed. I'm sure when they come back for another season or more episodes, it will all make sense.
When you see all the episodes then read the interviews Rob Thomas has done about it then you'll see no it does not make sense. The show was fine, but Rob really ruined it with his lame excuses

Horrible ending... not worth my time... Logan was an integral part of what made Veronica Veronica....the mysteries were great but their relationship and his maturing was awesome to watch....unfortunately Veronica never did grow...she was still self centered and committed to doing what she wanted no matter the consequences. Totally shows that at the end when she should have been the one opening that door!
Who else is ok with that ending not being the true ending. Im sitting here think Logans a navey boy. He figured it out in time and got out of the car and the navey just took the opportunity to make him go undercover. I didnt see no body so thats what im praying for cause this shitty ending doesnt work for me.
The vast majority of us will not watch unless Rob brings Logan back.

Amanda Wolanski I LOVED Leo until season 4. I know he’s human and he’s always been obsessed with Veronica but the way he kind of came on to her even though he knew she was in a relationship left me feeling sour and disliking him.

I'm sad about the ending, but I think it demands a continuation. Even with Logan's death (it wouldn't make sense to backpedal on that), he could come back as the person Veronica goes to in her imagination when she needs support, or to be challenged. The process of acceptance and grief takes time, and we could take that journey with her. I'd love to see a season 5, with a season-long story arc - a movie probably wouldn't work. C'mon Rob Thomas and everyone - reconsider!!!
Up until the end when RT got lazy and scared because writing for couples that finally get together is challenging. His "reasons" are just to cover his fear. If there ever is a reboot ir another movie, Logan has to return. The fans won't accept or watch anything less.
The line is actually "You're a marshmallow, Veronica Mars. A twinkie." Fun interview, I loved season 4 and can't wait for more seasons, I just hope they get them. I'm on board for as much Veronica Mars as they can give me, if it's all going to be up to that high standard. Yes, the ending was shocking, but I'm excited to see where she goes from here.
What the fan paid for was seeing logan and veronica end up together lmao, not her solving anything no one cared at that time, they wanted piz gone and logan back in the game and them live happily ever after

Julie Jules you cant blame Kristen* for how the show ended. last time i checked she was credited as an actress, not a writer. compared to many other celebrities, Kristen seems to care about her fans a ton. kind of shallow to assume she doesnt care.

This really is what we needed. Well, I can’t say “we” but at least for me, a huge fan of this series, it... felt so right. Obviously shocking and hard to accept but now it’s like, this could be the end of the series (an acceptable one) or it could be the beginning of something new. Whether or not that something new will be in my imagination or in reality, is yet to be seen. But at least they’ve presented us with something solid. We can take it and move on or stay hopeful for more, knowing that there’s an end waiting for us (Season 4) when we choose to accept it or when we have to (whereas that just wasn’t an option after the Season 3 finale and iffy after the fan-service movie). I’m satisfied. It’s truly such a gift. I’m so thankful for all these guys. Thank you!
100% agree! I so hope the fans don't get too salty and Rob and Kristen get to make more seasons of this show, because I loved season 4 and I am so onboard for more of this. It was sad to lose Logan but I felt like that relationship had run its course, they were on completely different wavelengths and it was time for her to move on. Not sure that he had to be killed off, but it was a gutsy move so I hope it doesn't backfire. #bringonseason5
Well said. As I am sad about Logan's fate, that is noir. We dont get the happy endings. As much as I loved his and veronica's relationship, it didnt define the show, the mystery did. I continued season 1 for the mystery of Lilly Kane, not because of a love story. Hope Rob will be able to make a season 5, but not sure if it will happen with all the negativity happening.

I know you've always hated the Logan character from the very beginning, and understandably so at the time of the Pilot. And we all then know of your resentment of every single time they put Veronica with Logan, and so therefore you worked actively against it. But a lot of the rest of us didn't feel that way. Your continuing to try and make that happen, with a weak-willed Rob Thomas, was NEVER going to work. So hunty? let me tell you...I will do everything I can in my, tiny, humble power, to carry over the righteous anger the original Veronica Mars fandom has, to your latest chicanery of having Logan killed. I know it will be pointless because you have tons of pull with Disney after Frozen 1, and with Frozen 2 coming out soon. And all the sweet sweet merch money Disney is making off Anna. I get it..you have the power to do what you want with Disney's latest purchase of (wait for it) Hulu! Wow. Dontcha love it when a plan comes together?

Or maybe it's the years of telling people that you want to do more Veronica Mars...so whatever the fans do to make that happen, is important. Even to the point of doing a Kickstarter to raise money for a new movie. And then two books after that, that the show(runner) was involved with/promoted as a way to make more content about VM happen. All while KBell is saying the same things, and doing the audio versions of said books to promote them more. And KBell saying over again, that she wants to play more VM, and RT saying he wants to make .All of this has been happening since the show was going to end/ended in 2007.

WedgeofSpite: on its release ... i went to a VMars movie charity screening for PATH in Century City with the cast and they had a Q and A session afterwards ... there were lots of questions to Kristen and Rob about where Mars was going next, how keen were they to continue, what could fans do to help ... but midway through Dax and Lincoln showed up, Lincoln just gurgled but Dax's questions were all to Jason and about how he managed to get so buff and how impressed he was with his shoulders definition ...
now that stuff actually happened ... i have video ...
but how's this for a theory ... i think Kristen got jealous and worried Dax and Jason were going to run off together ... so pressured Rob to kill off Logan to get him out of the picture ... and lo and behold guess what happened ... Logan gone ... hrm
