Tristan, thank you for another fine video. And thanks for giving the Well-Hung Foam Spider a try on brown trout this time. I know it works well on browned but, what I would really like to know is how well it will work on cutthroat trout, which I do not have access to in California. Please keep up the great video filming…Karl.
The Rhodo is the only Tenkara rod I own (I actually own two of them); I love them. I find myself going back and forth on the lengths, depending on the circumstances. I love using the longest length to drop a dry fly right on a feeding station, and in the shortest length, it's perfect for bow-and-arrow casting.
Another great video! Beautiful place. I own several Japanese rods, including an Oni III and I love my Rhodo! It's the only small stream rod that I own.
So glad I found this channel! Virtuovice is another fly fisherman I follow based in Japan. He catches small trout in N Japan and makes sushi riverside. Thought you may be interested. Thanks for sharing!
I couldn't concentrate on fishing in that location. Nope. The Beauty of Nature there is overwhelming. That happens so often with me. Especially out west now with the Newness of it all. Just sit and ...absorb it all in or something. Maybe it's the connection. I dunno. I just know I enjoy being there and Present. ( I don't have a schedule so that's a huge benefit!! 😄. I do want a shorter rod thought . The Fire something something is long for most locations especially east side. Been employing a 7'3" fly rod in those situations due it's length. Anyways, another real beautiful location! Always great to get back OTW after s long break. Tight Lines!
My first Tenkara rod was the Tenkara USA Sato. Love it long time. Been my bluegill getter here in central Texas for a few years now. I recently purchased a Dragontail Hellbender but have yet to get out to fish it due to work and lots of overtime. Hard to turn that down these days. I reckon the Dragontail will be the perfect compliment to catch larger fish along side the Sato. Loved the video. Mahalo!
If you ever make it to Southern Wisconsin, Black Earth Creek between Cross Plains and Black Earth has Browns up to 24". Go before mid summer, the grass gets too tall.
I remember fishingva smal)crikey in Southern Utah... somewhere near capital reef ... some waterfall you could hike too...wild brown tour in a 2 foot wide crik ...fishing was amazing
Does the Kebari sink a little? How long do you keep the Kebari in the water before you cast again? Totally new to all this but I’m hooked! Thanks, 👏🙌🔥❤️
Nice job. Beautiful, canyon, nice fish. Great plaec to hike along the creek. Did you plan on walking the creek due over head clearance. I have a question. I have a 13' tenkara which I have for many years. Way before the fly shops were selling them. Tenkara was very unpopular at the river. This spring I had a great time at the river. But still learning. With a 13' how much tippit should I use? I am always changing the length ( wind has a big factor). Times I'll go down to the river just to practice...... What is your take. Thank's
I fish with 3 feet of tippet on most lengths of line, including 13 feet. I planned on walking the creek because I've found that it spooks fish less than when walking the bank above them
It's my understanding that dry hands touching trout destroys their protective mucus. That in turn will eventually kill the trout. Therefore always wet your hands to allow the fish to be caught another day. Also what a beautiful place to fish. Thanks for sharing.
Your a seriously good fisherman, hats of to your techniques and approach! My only question is, what length of nylon/leader are you using? When your landing fish it doesn't look longer than 3/4 foot?
Hey there love the video love the videos I never even heard of tenkara until I saw your videos when I was a kid 17-20yrs in Durango Colorado I fished a lot of small streams and big streams and rivers but I fish the small streams with a little micro fly rod and reel I was just wondering why you don't release your catches Downstream so to not disturb the other fish in a pool or even on a straight with an undercut I always released mine Downstream and you always release yours Upstream I just thought maybe you had a good reason and I would really like to know thank you that is a beautiful place
Hey TA I invite you to east tn/north Georgia for some trout action? If you decide lmk and I'll put you on several extreme streams for sure. It'd make for some great footage because it is wild and vast, contrary to belief and a t-total demanding trout style here with vast vegetation and wildlife to contend with. A regular fly fisherman's nightmare perhaps, but your style would kill em! And I'm talking big rainbow, brown, brook, and brude trout! Love your videos brother!
I love your videos and the places you find. This place is a real gold mine with the beautiful creek and the Utah landscape. Do you film with a Gopro mounted to your chest to get these great shots?
Nope, it's on my head. I initially fished with it on my chest, but with that position it's often hard to capture netting the fish, which I feel like is an important part of the whole thing.
@@TenkaraAddict Thanks for responding, I'm retiring at the end of this year and I will be traveling the US and I was wondering how you find these locations. Do you just drive, pull over when you see water and try? Or do you get recommendations from people to try these areas. I'm hoping to find good Tenkara places in my journey. Thanks
Hey Tristan! I know you’re pretty busy out on the road with your UA-cam channels, but I would appreciate an answer to a question I asked you a while back about fishing in various states. I know you need to have a license to fish in your home state, and I would imagine that you would need one in each state you fish. Question: Do you purchase a day license in each non-home state just to film your adventure, or do you buy a non-resident season license for each state? I would really appreciate a response to this question. Thanks!
Ya have great love/care for the fish and should always wet your hands! But def interesting for a angler to call trout “gross and slimy” haha 😂. Great video and channel
It's no secret! You put it on UA-cam. Just so you know you're safe, fisherman that fish these spots will always keep it holy. No regular catch and keep Budweiser fisherman is working that hard for a prized fish at 12 in. Lol, nothing against Budweiser fisherman, I'm slowly but surely getting lazy and find no shame in catching a 16 8nch lake planter on some power bait! Cheers and happy fishing
@@TenkaraAddict makes sense, our highest mountain in Australia is only 2200m and we only get trout in a few areas of the country. You guys have some awesome looking streams.
The new rod you were trying, USA Rhodo, was the first Tenkara USA you had purchased. You said this rod fit your style and it is a good sign when one doesn’t have to think about casting. I certainly started out with no style. The rod dictates the style intended by the designer. And I’m presuming no mater how many rods we have they all have characteristics we need to discover. That basket of intentions behind the design might not be apparent initially. So my question is where does style come from in light of so many variables in the conditions fished? Slow water, fast water, cramped casting, wide open casting, calm winds, brisk winds, the lines being used, lakes, creeks, rivers……….. so is it a personal style or more the appropriate rod we are familiar with for the conditions? And lastly could you relate what your style is? I’m new to Tenkara and fishing. My learning curve is still building a foundation. I am enjoying your videos, thanks.
I was thinking of a similar question for myself. That is, do we need a whole bunch of rods that we'd need to remember the characteristics of or can a person have a small number of rods that fit the length you need on the water you're fishing? As with any hobby it's easy for me to fall into the "trap" of needing more stuff. Tristan uses his rods way more than most so it seems justified to have a big arsenal, but for a person who fishes only their local water, isn't a couple of rods enough? Just over thinking it out loud. That said, I'm here for the fish, the scenery, and to share in his great love of fishing.
I agree it’s the love of fishing and the beautiful spots you can find yourself in. My curiosity is about personal style. How does that differ or relate to a rods design parameters. No rod covers all types of water. The rod in hand has its characteristics. A 300 rod on a big river might be overwhelmed but fit your style on that small creek. So it comes back to is style the rod’s intended characteristics and in the conditions used? Hiking boots are great in the mountains and sandals on the beach but not so reversed. I’m with you on not needing lots of rods. But I can appreciate someone who finds it interesting to explore different characteristics of various rod offer. I’m looking at three rod to cover the fish and conditions I might find myself in. It’s up to me to explore what the rod offers. I guess I’m answering my question about style. For me, at this early point in tenkara, it’s more about the rod than personal parameters. Teton Tenkara, if I remember correctly, thought one of the Oni rods was the best casting rod he had. But he also said he had a hard time setting the hook with that rod. Is that his style or a characteristic of that rod?
@@terryasselstine6879 That last part is a good question. I've often wondered the same thing about missed landings. It might be good to remember that we are attempting to land a living thing that is fighting with all it has to get away. Surely some will succeed no matter how good the rod or our skills. That's all part of the fun/challenge. If we are talking about something deeper than using a tool to catch a thing, then it's on us to develop the skill to use the rod to it's full potential and having many rods won't increase our skill. Only time on the water and desire to learn will do that. I have one rod. It's a dragon tail and it's good for 3 lengths. I promised myself I wouldn't get another rod until I got into a situation where my skill and the tool couldn't do the job. That doesn't work for most folks but I've had too many hobbies that became more about collecting stuff than doing the hobby.
You are so right about the lure of greener pastures with one more rod in this case. What your talking about parallels those that use only one fly pattern.
