They will also help you when you lose something.
For #3, "Kore wa ikura desu ka?" is better. It's the equivalent of "How much does this cost?", which sounds a bit better than asking "How much yen is this?"

Some heroes don't wear capes. I been dreading the idea of Japan's public transportation since in my country is barely useful what we have here and I know my trip is in November but I'm the type of person who likes to plan and learn as much as I need before I head somewhere new. Thank you so much for such a detailed videos of how to navigate the airport and arriving at the busiest crossing in the world. The step by step and slow explanation really is fantastic help for future travelers to Japan.
I never knew i needed a step by step guide for getting out of the airport, turns out i really did haha. I'll be watching this once a week until my trip in October 🙏
I just returned from my first trip to japan about 5 days ago. Spent ten days there discovering tokyo, kyoto and gion, ginza to osaka and nara...... i am from italy but have lived in the states for over 30 years and have traveled all over the world. I will say Japan has been eye opening. I will absolutely be going back next year to keep exploring and learning all that i can about this incredible country. I am head over heels for Japan ❤ This video is so great and will be of much help to everyone who visits Japan. Wonderful content, hats off to you!!!!! 🙌🥂
@@jiujitsukitty9319 I'm going at the end of October and Japan has been a dream of mine to visit since I was a kid (I'm 37 now). I'm probably gonna want to visit every year after I do this first trip. Can't wait to explore and eat as much as possible.
this is by far the best video out there for going to Japan for beginners! Thank you for going into more detail and actually showing us how to do it using Google Maps.
this is the kind of video for 1st timer who plans to visit Japan... after watching so many videos, i can say this is the most informative video that I've gotten n needed what i need to know .. thank you!
After many hours of being either on a plane or in an airport, finally laying in a bed is like the best feeling ever. My recommendation is not to plan anything to do until later in the day on the day after arrival. There's nothing more stressful that trying to race back out of the hotel after being exhausted from traveling all day before. Getting up later and having a relaxing lunch is a great way to just enjoy exploring the city.
One thing that helped my on my trip recently, was that if you have an Iphone, you can just make a Suica or Pasmo card in your phones wallet, and not have to worry about getting a physical card. And it works exactly the same as a physical card, except that you can reload it using any payment methods already on your phone instead of having to go to a machine.
I have been to Japan as an exchange student already and knew most things but I get very anxious about the flight every time, so this video helped me to calm down! Thanks!
11:16- Currency Exchange. Personally I would suggest getting some Japanese Yen before you leave your home country. You can go to your own bank and get Japanese Yen and your bank does not charge you for the exchange if you have an account.
Partially correct. They will not charge you to exchange, but they will give you a lower exchange rate. For example, if the yen rate is 150, they might give you a rate of 141. I assure you, they're going to get paid for their service.
100% ATM for conversion. If you have a debit card with zero overseas fees you can get the full current conv rate. We use capitol one for all of our debit ATMs in Japan. We got 1=153 in March (our last trip). At the airport it was 1=135. Massive difference.
Haven't been to Japan on my own before and not since 2016. This was such a thorough and comprehensive guide and very useful. Thank you for sharing all the updated info!
The part that hit me the most was when you said "... I hope this video helped in taking away some of your anxiety about arriving in Japan!" LITERALLY, I had just texted my travel companion telling him watching your video was making me feel better from my anxiety :') Thank you so much!! Awesome video. Im headed to Japan for 10 hours for a lay over. I dont get there till 3:30pm. So this helps me understand the airport, passes and transit. This was fun! Thank you!
I just got back from Japan and this is spot on but for the train pass I'd recommend if you have an iPhone to add it to your apple wallet no fees and you can top it off on the spot
Navigating Japan’s railsystem is very easy to understand once you learn the basics. I was worried about it a lot because the maps online seems very complicated when I was trying to review it before our travel date back in January. When we got there, take your time learning how to buy a ticket using machines and also get an IC card asap.
Don’t panic too much if you don’t have a Suica card. You can easily buy tickets. Just have cash or coins handy for the ticket machines. Even on the Shinkansen you can just rock up and buy a ticket from the ticket office at most JR stations
I will hopefully be going at the end of September for my honeymoon, this is a great stress relief, book trains and just getting around in general has been my biggest fear of the trip but with google maps it seems so easy!

If I am not mistaken, when withdrawing money from the ATM, don't accept the bank conversion rate as you lose out a bit. Also check your daily withdrawal limit, best to have a few bank cards to make several withdrawals if needed.
For me, a smarter way is to link the IC card mobile app (ICOCA for example) to my Apple Card to earn points and skip the 7-11 ATM machine which I used to get cash from a lot.
Sorry, this might sound silly since I’m not too familiar with how to use atms for withdrawing yet, but is there a button that allows you to choose a different rate or how do I get a different conversion rate, please?
To all the replies here, ignore the comment. I don't know what is meant by "ignore the conversion rate". I've been to Japan 6 times and, like any country to obtain cash, never saw an option about conversion rate. Quite simply, you don't have a choice than set by your bank. If you withdraw 10,000 yen, your bank will convert that to your home currency with its rate and debit your account. End of story! Any card these days should work. Insert, select English, and withdraw like you do anywhere.
@saltiga05 They have Google immersion map/view which I just discovered and it's relieving some of my worries. Going next month with family & still in the planning stage.
I will be traveling alone to Teshima Island. I have everything arranged and am not worried except for figuring out the ferry from Takamatsu and working in buying a month’s worth of groceries before catching the ferry, since there is limited grocery availability on Teshima Island. The ferry cannot be pre booked and runs very early in the morning or late afternoon. Handling luggage, groceries, and the fact ferry tickets don’t sell until 30 minutes before loading is putting a lot of stress on my trip. I plan to make the short walk from the hotel to the ferry and hope it is not raining.
Loved that you walked through the station and showed it on the average day. Very useful. I know enough Japanese probably to ask for assistance without translation apps so it's been helping my anxieties about going but this video was great as well.
If you have a credit union, conversion rates are better than I've seen. My credit union offers a flat 1% conversion fee if I use my debit (as a Visa card) or my credit card from them) instead of 4% at the terminal.
