Savi - An crime emotional escape romantic thriller 1st June 2024 , Delhi , India This movie , produced by T-series films and directed by Abhinay Deo has broken new grounds by becoming the first film to create an entirely new genre , CEERT ( crime emotional escape romantic thriller) in India. The main protagonist is Divya Khossla in the titular role as Savi , who carries this tight paced film on her shoulders. In this role she has redefined the acting standards and has elevated the craft by diminishing the boundaries between a star and an actor by the sheer dint of her skills and the way she manifests this nuanced character, having multiple shades of delicate vulnerability coupled with the steely resolve enmeshed with her fierce loyalty to her family, willing to take on the opaque British judicial system to bring back a father back to his son, a lover to a beloved and a son to an aged father. Divya as Savi , hatches a plan to free her husband from a life sentence in a British Prison for a murder he did not commit ; that seminally embodies the legendary Savitri who succeeds in saving her husband from the noose of Lord Yama. Here Divya Khossla as Savi , reluctantly uses crime to free her husband who did not commit any crime from a blind criminal justice system, based on a blotched investigation. The way Divya has essayed this role would become a future study material in acting schools. There are many established actors who could learn a lot by studying her acting method. This is because many have very strong internal emotions during a scene , but the emotions are not seen by the audience on their immobile faces. The expressive eyes of Divya are enough to express what other actors would convey by delivering a verbose dialogue written by hassled script writers. In this film the initial helplessness of a wife and mother is amplified , not by tear jerking dialogues but by the malleable facial expressions of the actor in silent magical moments with her son at home and while meeting her husband in prison. The pain is evident. As the film progresses the actor metamorphoses into a fighter to bring back her wrongly jailed husband. In between the two contrasting phases of her life , there is a stage of hesitancy and doubt exhibited by the actor, that is brilliantly articulated by her fear and revulsion shown when she is forced to injure/ kill two drug dealers by shakily firing a revolver and herself getting scared of the sound of the gunshot. No other actor in India could have pulled this off so elegantly. Anil Kapoor, as Joydeep Paul shows his solid legacy and perfectly complements the heroine of this film. Harshvardhan Rane as Nakul , the jailed husband, justifies his role. Raageshwari Loomba as Simrit shines in a small but important role. Himanshi as Ayesha , the policewomen who chases Savi and Nakul, gives an energetic performance, that heightens the tension during the chase. A special mention to the apt music by Vishal Mishra, Javed-Mohsin, Piyush Shankar and Arkadeep complements the pitch of the tight script written by Parveez and Aseem. The background score during the chase sequences is heart thumping and gives edge-of-the-seat thrills to the engrossed audience. The direction by Abhinay is top class. The use of sound and jump cuts during scenes amplify the tension, especially the overlapping of sound when the balled up letter unfurls in the hands of Savi. This film is a pioneering pathbreaking film with solid performances that would do well in all formats. This film will go down in history as one of the best performances of Divya Khossla. A must watch on big screen, as OTT may not do full justice to it.
