I understand changing a gfci in a kitchen , bath, laundry or any other required area if you are doing a service call to replace a receptacle in such a area. However outside of that , I thought you only had to update the receptacle to arc fault only if you actually removed the outlet or added a outlet??? Outlet and receptacle are two different definitions in the code book.
@@The360Electrician I really appreciate everything you do, especially on this video I learn so much and I think I’m ready to take the c-10 test here in California. Any recommendations for preparing to take this test or steps to follow on how to fill the application to file or register a company name. Thank you and god bless
My ahj recognizes the 2017 nec but they only require afci protection on the bedroom circuit. Am I still required to afci protect a new receptacle that I change that is not in the bedroom?
Nope local juristicitctions rule. They may be on 2017 but can add and take off individual codes that make it more difficult for us but we have to not only follow the NEC but also the local jurisdictions codes. Usually the permitting office will know where and how you can get it. Smaller cities may not be able to afford putting additional code books together. Los Angeles has a ton of additions and subtraction. Remember even if it's not required going to the higher standard should be ok but not going less unless allowed.
Is there any push to have the industry remove the backstabbing of receptacles and switches? I know it's legal, but it's really cheap and crappy and it fails all the time. I just feel that it is poor workmanship that is encouraged by the manufacturers.
Agreed, thats a great point that no one has addresses? Some of the new Leviton and Hubbell receptacles have the 'Wago" Type connectors or quick connect. These are the way to go your going that route
I love the lever connectors. It's unfortunate that they're about 3x the cost of a wire but, but they are easier to use. Aside from cost, I'd say they're superior to wire nuts when properly used. After all, that's what ratings and listing's are for. Plug here for another episode/podcast?
If only... Likely better getting that from Ideal and their version, which aren't that bad either, if not better as their lever nuts allow pushing conductors in similar to their push-in connectors.

Great content Jeff 👏
Thank you, means a lot coming from a great contractor like Laguna. More eye openers to come on insurance.

great video and information
Thanks glad it helped. What state are you in?
I once found a main panel and a subpanel side by side and both panels had the bonding screw landed. 🤷
Of course because the electrical code is mandated. Into law by the state so it becomes law
I have a full time job but do electrical on the side, how can I get officially certified in electrical? Thank you.
@@whitetiger8652 check your states requirements
