And now the hospital managers who covered this up need to face jail time too. Absolutely disgusting how they tried to cover it up and make out she was a victim who needed apologising to. Send them down too as they're as guilty of murder as she is.

Agree.. I wonder how many of the deaths attributed to Letby were also due to the understaffing and excess patient load.. Letby is said to have cared for thousands of babies; Brit stats I have read put a high death rate of 5 per thousand, higher than the 2 per thousand "norm" indicating there would have been less than no deaths for the period in question not attributed to Letby.

@@graemejoyce5629 By ONS statistics the death rate on the ward went up after she was removed from the ward. Many discrepancies, dodgy statistics and scientific testimony given by doctors (not scientists as is the norm). She was convicted on circumstantial evidence and if anyone believes it was as black and white as the press put forward then you need to look into how insulin levels and air in the abdomen can be caused by resuscitation attempts.
I am not saying she didn't do it but the evidence was tenuous and it is possible she was used as a scapegoat for intrinsic and widespread failures in care at that hospital.
At some point she will appeal and perhaps more of the true nature of the failures at the hospital will be revealed.

They themselves can’t be guilty of murder, but truly a serious lack of judgment, lots of denial, and probably trying to save face but in this case that completely backfired… if they have any empathy I’m sure they will feel the gravity of their decisions and how they could have stopped more deaths. That is punishment in and of itself.

@@cheesball96 no you don’t, but I understand every aspect of a NICU and it’s shocking that 1. She was able to get away with it, 2. To know the inner workings of the nurse, patient and family relationship and choose to still do this and 3. To take an oath and still think this was best way forward for her. The thought of overfeeding, air embolisms or insulin injections to knowingly mortally wound these babies is mind blowing! Why? Why after several years of being a nurse? What changed? I think nurses everywhere are facing such difficult times but we have to look at why this happened and how to create workflows and procedural guidelines to quickly negate this ever happening again.

It's terrifying to think that if she had only done this once, twice, maybe even 3 times or when she was switched to day shifts she could have gotten away with it. The hospital wanted to sweep any suspicion under the rug to save face. They only took it to the police when they were backed into a corner. This is what happens when you privatize what is meant to be a public service. Business mattered more than the lives of all those babies that were killed. This crime and the fact that it was allowed to continue speaks of a wider culture within the corporate public sector in the UK, public servants can do no wrong and they investigate themselves unless they are backed into a corner and it becomes more detrimental to them to hide the truth.

Yes but it would not have brought the babies back. I think it better convicts are present for sentencing but they cannot be forced, lest we have shambolic scenes in court - which would be distressing for all. Whereas someone sentenced to less might be "bribed" by threats of more rime in gaol if they refused to attend or misbehaved, there is little leverage over whole-lifers. Perhaps putting an Audio-video feed in their cell (with no off switch for them) and maybe a video camera might be the best alternative.

The evidence against this sadist is clear. Having been a nurse for over 42 years, and now retired, I am appalled at her behavior, which can only be defined as psychotic. I am not surprised by the management defending her, as I have seen this in my own career.......nurses working with low standards of care not even counseled for their behavior and allowed to even further their career whilst others work tirelessly and with true dedication not to receive any commendation for their efforts, save for the thanks of their patients. I have had the privilege of working with many of the latter. What does surprise me is that a cover-up had to have been created. Why did the physicians not go to the police themselves since this proved to be such a heinous crime? While I understand that not following the "chain of command" could very well have led to their dismissal from the hospital......wasn't it in the best interest of both the safety of the children under the care of the hospital and the family members to do so in spite of it? Surely this would supersede any fear of a loss of employment!

Now that she’s convicted, the public enquiry ought to focus on the corrupt NHS executives in the hospital and board who protected and apologised to her! All of this to the detriment of its patients and those who fund public services. They used HR rules and PC legislation to protect her, whilst damaging the very people these rules were apparently introduced to protect. This case speaks volumes to the issues with Britain currently. Hospital administrators and medical professionals surely need to be charged with some sort of criminal neglect and/or homocide. Some of the evidence during this trial has demonstrated time and again, failures to prevent harm, in spite of growing evidence and, at a minimum, looked like unfortunate coincidences that should not have been tolerated. I’m only late to these crimes, but the evidence I’ve heard in relation to Baby I, is absolutely horrifying and I cannot fathom how things were able to progress to baby names so far down the alphabet, it is truly shocking. The heartbreak and distress for these families at the loss and harm to these babies is unimaginable. At a minimum they must have some recourse to sue individuals/organisations. It will never bring back their babies or undo the trauma and pain for their losses. It will be an acknowledgement of the undue suffering and trauma facilitated in part by the organisations and practitioners in positions meant to protect and care for their babies. They absolutely failed in their duty.
