    Dancing ON2 is a wonderful way to be in the rhythm of the music. I use to dance On1 and now being On2 I feel a better connection dancing on the strong accents of the 2 and the 6.
    Dance on people!

      it vastly depends on the music. I sometimes end up dancing half the songs at a party on 1 and the other half on 2 :))

      Ny2 is technocally on 1 fyi. If you step in 123 567 you dance on 1

    This is the best counting I have found! Dancing salsa on the 2 by listening to the conga is the easiest way to hear and feel the music. 8& 1, 2, 3, 4& 5, 6, 7, 8& ... Listening for the 8& really helps find the 1. And by including the 8& and the 4& in the count, the beat rolls so you get a better feel for the music and don't just march on the beat, you dance through it. It's a bit tricky at first to count the 4& and 8& and not move your feet but worth the effort when you get it.

    I was reading the comments about salsa and his origins. I see the words mambo, rumba, cha cha, but i didn't see the words: Danzon, Son, Guaracha and Casino who are the origins of what we call salsa todays.The Casino is the original "salsa", that was the ballroom salsa of the 50's in Cuba. The cuban salsa, timba, mambo salsa, or NY style and LA style are only a continuity of the Casino.

    There is nothing more beautiful than the Cuban mambo and Rumba. So continue to have an evolution of the Cuban Mambo, Rumba and Chacha, do not have a revolution by changing the name from Mambo into Salsa, And changing the counting of quick,quick,slow into 234,234, NOT 123,567. Like the Europeans did, EVOLUTION NOT REVOLUTION to Rumba, by using their Ballet techniques ! George Wu, AIA 2012-8-11

    1/ " to this beautiful Afro-Cuban based music" I like the word " Cuban " very much in your comment. This is the first time that I see a Salsa dancer had acknowledged the origin of where Salsa came from, not as some idiots in UA-cam several years ago claimed that the Puerto Ricans in N.Y. and L.A. had " invented", He "fucking this" : fucking that " to respond my comments in his post in UA-cam ! Once some one said some nasty things to you, you do not forget it easily !

    I have a few questions! On 1 is LA style right? So then the 123-567 is the NY on-2 and the 234-678 is the PR on-2? Are those also "Modern Mambo" and "Classic Mambo" but which is which? Or am I totally wrong :P! Thanks, this videos great! Really shows you how to count!

    If I follow the instructions of this video, how to know if the congas “Pa” is a 2 or a 6?
    (thats very important to know if to go forward or back)

      hi - because the conga only cycles every 4 beats there is no way to get through 8 beats - meaning you''re only counting up to 4

    Only five days ago, there was a woman asked me to dance, she asked," do you break on 2 or break on 1 ?" What a confusion ! I think it is all the faults caused by the Puerto Ricans in 1990's ,about 30 years after the Cuban crisis. The Salsa promoters tried to make money on the Latin music market, they had to give a new name and a new step to the old 1940's Cuban Mambo ! The climax was around 1995, when the NY born Puerto Rican,Tito Puente,performed in the Linclon Center ! George Wu, AIA 2012-8-9

    The ORIGINAL Cuban way to dance is as the following: Man start with the left foot forward, called 2, then the right foot in place, called 3, Left foot to side, called 4 ,1 . Then the right foot backward, called 2. Left foot in place, called 3. Then right foot to side, called 4,1. Just in case you never learned the Cuban Latin dance before,this is a good dancing lesson for you, "thesalsaexpert" ! George Wu, AIA 2012-8-12

  • @georgewu5
    @georgewu5 12 років тому

    2/ And the traditional quick.quick,slow was kept if the dancers doing just that ! Or use the traditional Cuban counting 234,234, even the Puerto Ricans changed the counting into 123,567, but still is danced to the original Latin basic quick,quick, slow ! Unfortunately there is some confusion counting beyond 567 for an average intelligent guy, after twisting the arms several times the Man got confused !

    2/ when the Mambo was stolen, but the counting system 234,234 was not. The Puerto Ricans "invented" something, they count 123,567 instead. Generally if the dancer is doing the basic quick,quick,slow, there should not be any problem. Because the third step slow still danced ! However, only recently, some Puerto Ricans felt that they had been dancing with no pause ! Now that is a serious problem! So some smart Puerto Ricans came up with this on 2 ! What a confusion! Break on 1 ? Break on 2 ?

  • @georgewu5
    @georgewu5 12 років тому

    1/ Yes, I am very passionate about the Latin music being promoted to China, a country is known to be very conservative about their personal feeling and expression. But since the salsa was "INVENTED" in the 1960's after the Cuban crisis, there was always a controversy among the Latin World, Salsa had stolen Mambo and left the DJ of everywhere to annonunce his music," Mambo/Salsa " every time and every night ! Whose fault is it? Salsa people !

  • @georgewu5
    @georgewu5 12 років тому

    Why is there such a confusion? After I spent several years studying the problem, I went to the Cuban Rumba, Chacha, and the Cuban Mambo, I finally discovered the secret that caused the Puerto Ricans going on 1 lessons and on 2 lessons to confuse the instructors himself, subsequently the beginners! But I am not going to tell you the secrets, because it has taken me years of learning and a lot " fucking & mother fuckers " abused comments from the low class Puerto Ricans. George Wu, AIA 2012-8-9

  • @georgewu5
    @georgewu5 12 років тому +1

    Then why didn't the Americans claim that they had invented " ENGLISH" ? The fact was that a few years ago in UA-cam, there were Puerto Ricans claimed that they had " INVENTED' Salsa in New York and L.A. .And forgot the name Mambo completely ! Now, that is stealing, not evolution. Somebody stole something and changed the name into something else. If that is not stealing, What is ?! George Wu, AIA 2012-8-10

    • @giorgosgalanos9888
      @giorgosgalanos9888 3 роки тому

      Because almost half of "English" is not even English. A similar situation as the one you describe but in language.

  • @georgewu5
    @georgewu5 12 років тому

    What the hell are you talking about? When you said," You like on 1- dance on 1. If you like, dance on 2. " Why on 1 then changed into on 2 ? George Wu, AIA 2012-8-12

  • @georgewu5
    @georgewu5 12 років тому

    If I never made a sound about the Puerto Ricans had stolen the Cuban Mambo and called it Salsa. People in the future never will know the truth about Mambo was stolen, and Salsa was given a new name for it ! Because the name has been altered after the looting, I cannot agree to the word," EVOLUTION " you used here ! If the Puerto Ricans had kept the same name Mambo, then it is "EVOLUTION" ! George Wu, AIA 2012-8-9

  • @georgewu5
    @georgewu5 12 років тому

    the: " So there is nothing sacred about the word Mambo or Salsa" Mambo is the original Cuban dance; and Salsa is a thief stealing Mambo away from the Cuban in 1960s, and renamed it to Salsa ! That is the difference. Mambo is the owner of the dance started by Cubans in 1940s; and Salsa is only a thief in 1960s ! You are telling me there is no difference ? George Wu, AIA 2012-9-20

  • @georgewu5
    @georgewu5 12 років тому

    3/ Now, there is a correction ,"ON 2" up-rising among the Salsa people, tried to achieve the beautiful PAUSE that Mambo and Rumba processed ! But the more the Puerto Rican tried to do, "ON 1 ......ON 2 " , the more the Salsa Male dancer is confused, the Lady has a better luck by dancing faster and doing more spins to campourflage the frustration, but the man was left standing doing just the regular equal timing steps ! Boring looking and not even Latin dancing any more ! George Wu, AIA 2012-8-11

  • @georgewu5
    @georgewu5 12 років тому

    thesalsaexpert : Question: Do you agree that Mambo is 234,678 for quick.quick,slow, so called BREAK ON 2 , when Salsa is 123,567 for quick,quick,slow, so called BREAK ON 1 ? Then where this "Salsa on 2 "came from ? I think you confused yourself and you confused everybody else! Why such a simple Mambo was stolen and changed into so complicated "ON 1, ON 2 " ? George Wu, AIA 2012-8-28

  • @georgewu5
    @georgewu5 12 років тому

    You said," Who cares if it's called Mambo or Salsa- call it Jumbo if you like..." Then why did you call yourself "thesalsaexpert"? Why didn't you call yourself " theMamboexpert"? It is a typical thief mentality.How do you like I stole your money and celled that is my money. Would you let me to do that to your pocket? And expect you not to make a sound of injustice? You have no moral. You are a thief of Mambo. You do not deserved to be respected. George Wu, AIA 2012-8-10

    Samsung just lost $1,05 billion to Apple for the copyright of iphone! I wished there is a patent law preventing Salsa from stealing Mambo from Cuba ! Too bad there is no such a law ! Meanwhile Salsa people creating more confusion to confuse everyone including those so called " instructors" by introducing On 1 then On 2 when Mambo is always BREAK ON 2 ! George Wu, AIA 2012-8-28

  • @georgewu5

    I have decided not to help you Salsa people. Although I have already found out the reasons why you have the on 1 and on 2 problems ! because you people have been very nasty to me for several years when I protested that you had stolen the Cuban Mambo and changed the name to Salsa. George Wu, AIA 2012-8-9
