I just bought one of those Gunson anti-freeze testers. It said my car was good for -20 degrees F. Wife's car did not register anything, same with daughter's car. The indicator just hung straight down on their cars. Took the cars to a friend who used his refractometer. It showed wife's car is good for -11 degrees and daughter's car is good for -15 degrees. Get a refractometer and throw that tester thing away. Also like 7071t6 says, get the test strips.

    Great multimeter voltage test. Thanks

      Thank you for the comment.
You could really just do the voltage test first and if the coolant fails that as mine did, a change is required regardless and the other tests aren't really necessary.
That said, none of the tests are any more or less important and a bad failure on any of the 3 tests means action is needed one way or another.

      @@sirobb Nice video.
I put the 2 leads of multimeter into the coolant radiator and it gives 0.02 v. However, when I put one lead inside of radiator and other lead to negative of battery, it gives .20 volt. Why is this reading different???

      Thang Tons
Try this two opp with the tester’s negative on the negative terminal and positive inside coolant:
Read voltaje with ground connected to battery.
Read voltaje with ground disconnected to battery.
If voltaje changes, you have a wire grounded.

Great stuff, but most people do not have a good multimeter,so the next best thing is to use test strips which will give you the glyco and inhibitor levels as well, by looking at the cooler change on the test strips, which are really cheap and also a refractometer will check the glyco levels, but then you could use the multimeter, but only if you have one and a DC meter, cheers and thank you for this upload ?

Seems that a lot of youtubers have a different opinion of what voltage is good or bad.

Im confused too some said red in coolant some said red to ground which is which? Damn lol

Shouldn't matter, it most probably only changes positive V reading to negative eg -0.2V instead of 0.2V. Important is only value itself not the sign + or -.

Watched several inconsistent videos on this now. 0.2VDC or 0.35VDC or 0.02VDC????? Where do you guys get thee numbers from and how do they correlate to pH?

@SiRobb hi, i was wondering what you thought about waterless coolant? how well does it do in minus 35 C to +35 C. how much corrosion is there on the radiator? thanks for any help you may give

This is a more accurate test. It tells you exactly or you could use the tablets are use this for a number of years and it’s never failed me.

hi Simon, carried out your coolant test on my 14 year old XC 90, and the reading was approx 100mV, I was expecting a result similar to yours, wondered if I should change it anyway, or wait for readings above 250 mV, ? many thanks, geoff

There's a coolant strength test as well as shown in the video.
I wouldn't rely on any single test.

Just came back from the garage and the coolant is supposed to be replaced but i don’t trust it, is that a good idea to check wether or not the coolant been replaced or just the color appearence is enough? In my case pink color?

Hi, i did the milliamp test on my Fiat Ducato, reading was 000, pink coolant OAT in it, was renewed last year at cambelt and water pump change. I'm putting a new rad in so was thinking of using new coolant. My query is , is it possible to have a zero reading on the multimeter test?

    • @sirobb
      @sirobb  6 років тому +2

effimia3 Zero is too perfect so I'd leave one probe in the coolant and try several earth points.
Engine must be running and current must be flowing so turn on everything electrical.

SiRobb ah ok, will turn on electrical stuff and test again, cheers

Hello again, so I change the rad, now I have noticed a noise, I've only had the van a couple of weeks so it might have been there before and i didn't notice. Would you mind telling me what you think please-ua-cam.com/video/8JEp2bfhK8Y/v-deo.html
