“I’m Dewey’s 12 year old girlfriend.”
I lost it the first time I heard that.🤣😂🤣
The "12-year old girlfriend" looks like a 39-year old post office clerk though
@@justmytwocentsdontgetmad that’s the.. joke
You know this is based on fact with one of the musicians from back in the day I think the ring of fire guy he knocked up like his twelve-year-old cousin I think
@@chrispennington6890 Jerry Lee Lewis married his 13 year old cousin….yuuuup
@@justmytwocentsdontgetmad let me guess… you haven’t seen this film and would not get it even if you did
I love how this movie is so relevant to music biopics it predicted the future even with the new Elvis movie. Truly comedy movies like this are once in a lifetime.
Or music biopics usually just follow a lot of the same tropes?
Disnt predict the future at all 🤣 it's a parody of walk the line?
This was a parody of the Walk the Line, Johnny Cash biopic starring Joaquin Phoenix which came out a year or two early, but with the recent run of biopics it's returned to relevance, they're all the same.
The Elvis movie pretty much had this very scene, when Elvis makes his debut.
@@underthetrees4780 It's a parody of the whole genre.
Every second of the movie is parodying a different biopic.
Walk the line is the most explicitly parodied, but there's so much more to the movie than just that one film being parodied.
The cgi de-aging here is pretty amazing. Must've cost a fortune.
They got the guys who did Cavils mustache.
Not sure if this is an actual comment or saying John C Reilly is old
@@strider6336 he's supposed to be like 14 in this clip
I actually heard in an interview he did. That he has always looked old even in middle school lol not kidding
@@schmule460 that is sad, he must have gotten picked on.
"You know who has hands, the Devil and he uses them for holding"😂😂😂
That got me
Cody Wogan wow. He’s gonna hate The Beatles

And that’s how people thought back then
Me : That what chu say ta all the lil boys before you tell em take mah hand?
I love this movie because it's hilarious but the songs are actually really good, catchy and perfectly capture each genre
And each artist that he tries to copy later on lol
The song about the little people is a banger
@@marcoe1722 all the elevator buttons, SO incredibly high!
Especially the second one he makes
“What do you mean? It’s about holding hands!”
“You watch your mouth!”
funny that a parody of cinematic music bios ended being one of the best music themed movies ever
True, the formulaic music biopic is mocked to death in this movie but yet it's always repeats, even in Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman. This movie is miles better than them.
@@ezzong long as people still watch them theyll keep making them. Money motivates which movies get made
It's hard to take ANY music biopic seriously after seeing Walk Hard. They still all follow that parodied formula exactly.
@@ViccVegaa023 Bohemian Rhapsody even follows the same ending of grand performance as a last goodbye, like Dewey at the award show. What a joke
Walk the Line was really good, but that was PURELY because of Joaquin Phoenix' performance (well, the majority of the cast was good/great, but Phoenix is, well, he's one of the best actors in hollywood right now IMO) without him the movie would be completely forgotten because, its true, it fits the music biopic mold perfectly, didnt switch it up enough imo
Straight Outta Compton is pretty much the best music bio tho
I don't know why people didn't like this movie more. This scene is pure genius.
John C Reilly is such an unappreciated talent ...
It's sad he's considered Robin to Will Ferrell's batman. Reilly is so much more creative, original, and naturally hilarious.
He’s proved he can play serious roles several times and nobody seems to notice
u can always add shake but it would be nothing without bake
@@jodierehbein8721totally agree, him in, 'We need to talk about Kevin' for example. That's a movie that you struggle to watch twice.

Lmfao too good
Oh well, Jerry Lee Lewis married his 13 year old cousin.
@@2ndarmoredhellonwheels106
Dewey is suppose to be 14 in this scene.
What kind of old maid wasn't married by 12 back then?
@@2ndarmoredhellonwheels106 I believe that's what this scene is about. They took a lot from when Rock n Roll first came out and how people were reacting to it.
Of course you're my girlfriend. I pointed at you in the audience!

Watched this movie 50 times and then I've watched the Elvis movie. Elvis in the scene in his pink suit at the beginning is almost the same as this scene. So good
When I saw that scene from Elvis, I also immediately thought of Walk Hard.
“You know who has hands?! The Devil! And he uses them for hold’n!”
Me: (Confused Lutheran Thoughts)
Dont be confused
They are promoting evil.
A 14 year old HERO who dates a 12 year old....
"You're only 14!"
Ironic as back then people actually left home by that age
You know the best part of this movie, all the original songs are really good.
Hey! That's beloved character actress Margo Martindale
James Forster she’s great in Sneaky Pete and Dexter.
James Forster You mean character actress and fugitive of the law Margo Martindale?!

I remember the Summer before my senior year in high school. One of my friends put this movie on and that day it became a top 10 comedy forever to stay in my list.
I can quote this movie verbatim and it's been one of my all time favorites since the day it came out ❤
If you haven't seen the whole movie, it's well worth it. It's hilarious!
I was not ready for that first punch
"Like the wrong kieed died!". Hahaha, that gets me every time!
This actor shows up on Gotham as a dark mentor character to the young Bruce Wayne and every time he talked I wanted him to say “wrong Wayne died” but alas
Followed by "And you never paid for drugs😂"...
0:34 The most freezed scene in this movie...
Kristin Wiig cracks me up EVERY time I watch this clip!!
What makes this movie so funny is that John C. Reily can actually sing! 🤣
What made this scene even better for me just now is the fact that I just realized his band mates are a bunch of kids 🤣 🤣🤣🤣
"Ain't got no room in my house for no devil spawn!"
I can’t remember if I already posted this, but those three girls ripping their blouses…
The last one really wanted to make the most out of that scene and it was awesomely funny 😄
God! I love this movie!
I just wanna know the blonde’s name. Looks like a young Lea Thompson
@@ComedyBros5 I know her, it's Molly C Quinn, I wanna know who the other two are

John c Reilly really is a good singer..

That old man throwing hands was pretty awesome
0:57 Old man knows how to fight.
And he only needed one arm.
Such an underrated movie..
John C Reilly is actually pretty good at singing he so underrated in general
I just love that his parents are Arlo Givens and Mags Bennett from justified 😂
The real reason for the bad blood in Harlan. Arlo kicked out Dewey.
You'll never leave Harlan alive.
Is that esteemed character actress margo martindale? I thought she was a fugitive of the law
Kristen Wiig's face in the last shot killed me. Never had noticed it before.
And the growling.
Kristen Wiig's growling kills me every time.
I actually love this scene, it represents as a musical commentary that impacts popular culture to expose hypocrisy in both politics and religion.
I'm convinced this wasn't originally part of the script. John C Reilly just has this effect on people.
Watching the preacher (Ron Howard’s father) get belted in the jaw was plain hilarious.
And besides rap is the Devil's music.
@@dannythomas417
And any music involved with the two words, “Fred” and “Durst”.
Still fully convinced Baz Luhrmann saw this and said "okay we have to do this scene from a 15 year old parody movie, but played 100% straight."
"You will never get anything but unconditional love and support from me. For you and your dreams"
Literally next scene
"You're never guna make it Dewey"
god damn this is definitely in the top 3 comedies of all time
The little growl she does at the end kills me lol
just noticed it!!lmao😁
*checks out most replayed part of video*
ah yes, a great scene indeed
We really need more clips of this gem on UA-cam.
What’s funny is music really does control people to this level lol
What makes me pissed about this scene is there's still people out there today, not just parents and priests, but anti music protesters who say that rock is devil's music. Answer me this, if they claim rock is devil music, the why is there religious rock, or christian rock to be exact?
Like skillet and they've done some amazing work.
Believe it or not, there's people who say even Christian rock is the devils music. Not to name names but **cough cough** Jimmy Swaggart **cough cough**
"What do you mean? It's about holding hands"
"You watch your mouth" 🤣😂🤣😂
the moment she said "but you're only 14", I can't hold myself anymore XDDDD
"Take...take my hand...we're gonna walk through the park"
I promise to have you, home before dark
The 50's ladies and gentlemen.
Mathew Cipriano
Such a wonderful time. Communists ruined everything.
Also segregation
The counter arguement to the preacher would be:
"So does the lord, what's your response to that?"
Yeah, but the minute they do that they would have to take a different route with the scene.
It's just a joke. It's taking something funny and making fun of what the other's reaction is. That was the joke I was doing.
@@Renegadegamer2001 I realize that, but far too often i see this happen in reality so it doesnt make me laugh, it just bothers me now.
The lesson here is to stop making jokes
How many takes did the actor playing the minister need for his line, “You know who's got hands? The devil! And he uses ‘em for holdin’”? It looks like he’s starting to smile right at the end, almost about to break character. Quite frankly, even one successful take of a line like that would be a major accomplishment!
The blouses ripping open kills me
Later, he gave up on his guitar/ song-writing dreams. He did pursue drumming. And some rap music about boats.
And gardening
0:21 Girl in the middle looks like Lea Thompson who played Lorraine in Back to the Future. It's mostly the haircut and eyebrows, different jawline. Same eyes.
Old guy droppin’ fools.
Dan Echebarria his fists were in the war, he knows how to drop all the fools
"You know who's got hands? The Devil!!! And he uses them for holdin'!" Oh my goodness!
Every day is a new day I discover another movie starring Character Actress Margo Martindale.
You know who else has hands? The devil!😂😂😂
Do you know who's got hands? The devil and he uses them for holding 😂
Look at the actress's face at 2:48. Freaking adorable.
“Like what? The wrong kid died?”

It's funny how painfully accurate this is. 🤣

The girl in the middle does things to me ngl 😂
This Movie is Pure Art!!!
Best line ever "The wrong kid died!" 😂😂😂😂😂😂
The wrong KEED died!
WTF, seeing this the first time, need to watch this, thanks youtube for the thumbnail
The mom in this played elvis's mom in another movie too.
I just watched the new Elvis movie, and this scene is even more funny 😂
Love the punching of the preacher
Yep. That’s kinda how it was when Elvis started singing. Singing. Not hurting people. Singing. Not burning down houses. Singing. Go Dewey go!
I approve of the thumbnail.👍
The best part is that the instruments are period accurate
I need to see all the snl alums and John C Reilly and the scary movie crew in one massive show
As a Dewey I love this movie
This is such a brilliant take on McCarthyism and it went over most people's heads.
The girl in the middle looks like Lea Thompson (Back to the future)
I wonder if that was intentional? These would be taking place in roughly the same time period.
prob was lol
“Now stop! You don’t wanna say nothin’ you’ll regret for the rest of your life!”
“Like what!? Like the wrong kid died!?!?”
0:45 That one couple that’s no affected 😂
Direct inspiration for Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis.
It's funny that the blond girl doesn't even rip her blouse open, it just opens like it wasn't buttoned.
She was already unbuttoning cause she knew from the moment the song began her shirt would end up open.
i love how the other people in his band are actually 14
That Fender bass is gorgeous
"Its about hokding hands"..
"You watch your mouth" 😂
Back when you could have T&A in a comedy! 🤣
Now you don’t have T&A in any movie at all.
How many blue bras were there in the fifties
I admit that every single time a pastor or a priest say that certain things are "devil's things" I urge to do what happens at 0:36 🙌😅🤣
