Great video, Gareth. Just a suggestion, learn to cast with your left arm for situations like the 3:00 fish. Most people don't ever bother to do it but it pays huge dividends.
Wow man! I kove to see a size 16 Pheasant tail will catch browns literally on the other side of the globe from me! Sooooooo cool. Ultra clear water was amazing. I live in Utah Usa and most of my browns are 12 - 16 inches it is such a treat to see this quality of fish man. Just amazing. Love your channel
Finally the music and talking is in tune so no more muting your vids, tyvm and great vid as usual with some nice fish even if no real tanks this time:)
When I look at your and Alex's videos, I rarely see habitation ( houses, farms, human made structures ). You guys are really lucky to have such incredible rivers close to home. If I want to fish a nice river without all the people, I need to worry about wild animals, including grizzly bears. Do you have to worry about such things?
No bears or anything like that here in NZ. Pigs and deer are about but aren't threatening to humans. I'd say the most dangerous thing is probably the environment.
@@finninnes2973 Thanks for your response. Well, we also have to deal with bushwhacking through vegetation, climbing up and down steep slopes. At least you guys don't have to worry about bumping into a grumpy momma bear with cubs... or a cranky moose. I stopped going to the Ruby River in Montana after my friend almost stepped on a rattle snake. He said it happened twice on the same day. I understand you guys have a problem with sand flies. So I'll have to be ready for that when I finally make it there.
@@schmoonkie Hah, yep I definitely take the absence of bears/moose/snakes etc. for granted. Yes the sandflies can be pretty brutal at times. I know down south they are particularly bad. I'm from central north island and haven't experienced enough sandflies to call them a problem yet, but I've got a bit more adventuring to do before I can rule them out up here. But yes, be ready.
Ive wanted to ask this before......how are u guys able to hold them fish without gloves or a rag or something? All the trout ive ever caught.....granted they were 3/4 smaller the size of the ones u catch.....they were slimy as hell and there was no handling them the way u do. Whats the secret?
Smaller fish can be a little trickier to hold onto but once you get a good grip on the tail the fish give up for the most part and it’s much easier to control them. Smaller fish are harder to get the tail held tight and so makes it a little harder. Fish for whatever really give up once they feel like they don’t have use of their tail. You’ll notice in his videos when he holds a fish he has a good grip around the tail. Try and mimic that and you’ll be good. Hope that helps!

Здравствуйте клёвая рыбалка
That same thing happened to me with my GoPro, I just set it out and all the water came out in about a week and now it’s perfectly fine
Yeah if got it drying still . Will see how it goes
@@TroutHuntingNZ good luck, I hope it turns out fine so we can still see those fire underwater releases🔥
Did the GoPro survive??
Negative 😢
Dang! Was hoping it made it through. I beat the hell out of GoPros doing tree work, but haven’t managed to break one yet, lol
Love your videos man! What reel is that you are using?
I love trying to figure out where the river is. Most of the time I can't figure it out, but I go it this time.

It rains a fair amount here, particularly in winter. I'm guessing he simply picks his trips around weather.
