I think in the future when this thing gets some modification reductions it would be worth playing but it takes too long getting it to a status of being combat effective at the role it has in War Thunder
This thing is monster in downtiers, is my favorite plane for events The trick with the radar missiles is always using it with high altitude targets and having the enemy above you for better radar lock, even when the lock is lost the missile still tracking the plane, but only in close ranges 3km - 1km
After playing the f4f and the kurnass, i learned that if you just keep the radar off you can jump a lot of ppl and if you need radar you just acm lock them. Its quite fun playing like a rat in it.
After I saw the text on the thumbnail I just wanted to stop by and say a little fun fact about me: I am actually descended from the man that the story of Jekyll and Hyde is based off. Not that I expected anyone to know or really care, I just wanted to say that and I'm glad to see that the story hasn't been forgotten :DDD
It would be better with a realistic boresight mode, you could put the sight on the target and have the radar guide a sparrow without a lock. Since the sparrow is a CW missile, it can see targets against ground clutter or chaff similar to PD radar
the thing is, this Jet is just absolutely insane in Sim.. and it's because people can take advantage of that precision control that you don't get in RB. Being able to hold a good high speed turn in a 2-circle fight is what makes this jet incredible. Also, 99% of the community doesn't actually know how to use manual radar settings, so they just never really take advantage of the Aim-7e-2s like you should and break a vertical 2-circle or 1-circle and force your opponent to give up the dogfight to notch and chaff, or risk taking a Fox-1 to the face.
The F-4E is one of my favorite planes at its BR, on one hand in a downtier it curb stomps everything and even in full uptiers it holds it own, you can truly be multirole
To put some numbers in TEC's comparison between the AIM-7E and the AIM-7E-2 dogfight, the guidance start delay of the first is 1,8 seconds and the second is 0,7 seconds.
I feel like you are missing that 90% of all lobbies are also on the stock grind, generally people stop flying the planes once they are spaded and move on to next
2:09 but when you play the F4S, YOU are at 12.3 and up. Fighting F16s, F14s and Mig 29s. When you play 11.3 and 11.7, you always see F4S getting down tiered. Once again, almost every single game is a full up tier. If not then .7 up. Gaijin simply needs to have a "buffer" for these phantoms from the 80s era jets. Its pathetic seeing aim120s, 54s and fakours just getting you all the time. 50 meters off the deck. Clipping through trees. Its just not enough. Also IR missiles are easily flared off
4E is literally the plane I have the most battles in - much as for me it's Arcade. Honestly, with certain newer planes that have come in it should maybe drop (at least in Arcade) down to 10.7 (which if memory serves is what it used to be) and the 4C to 10.3 (which I know it used to be). I still do fine in it, but more and more I'm seeing planes with weapons that straight up out class it either cause they get put at lower BR's for dumb reasons (Subsonic strike aircraft with 9M's and AMRAAMS - or their counterparts) or players working the MM system to get planes that might normally be out of it's BR range into matches at a lower BR so it is. More and more planes at the same or even lower BR's are getting all-aspect heat seekers that don't trigger an RWR that are just straight up better. Even a year ago, the F-4E's placement made more sense, but these days, I think it's a little high for what it has to compete with. Sure - I've smoked a lot of F-16 players in it and the J with the guns (cause I'm the crazy bastard who will actually use guns in top tier) but honestly a lot of it is their just super bad and lose too much energy after they've run out of the missiles they rely on too much. They really need to have a somewhat clearer line between some of the groupings of aircraft for match making.
i honestly have so much success in this plane that its crazy. people will see a phantom and take the dogfight and get clapped out of the sky the moment the fight goes vertical bc theyre just not expecting how hard itll pull with the slats. and the radar missiles are iffy shit but i will go 4 for 4 if i blow through the furball coming up and side on from ground level. such a slept on plane
@westonkiser4984 drop the radar out of an F15 install it in an F4E, add AIM9Ms, add AIM120, it would dominate air realistic. The only reason it does not right now is it's lack of pulse doplar radar. When I get up tired as long as I can get with in 7KM of an early model f15 I can seal club them.

65 years of F-4 in 2023.

its one of my favorites for events, usually use the Israeli which gets the 9-g giveing you more choices when playing higher up.

Well the Upgraded Hellenic (Greece) F-4E can carry Paveways, AIM 120 and the Japans F-4E EJ KAI can carry AAM-3

I love the F4E in air arcade. I can get 6 kills most of the time befor getting shot down. My favorite load out is two gun pods, 4 aim7E2s, 4 aim9Js.
