Whoa! Your fragmentary annotations are so musical. IMAGINATIVE. I'm a beginner in Cello and I wish to find a teacher like you in my area. What a great teacher you must be!
Thank you! I picked up cello 2 months ago I can play other instruments pretty well, so it hasn't been too difficult to make it sound halfway decent I've had zero training However your description of the fundamentals and techniques Just watching you You explained so much to me Thank you soooo much
I used to play the violin for many years. Now I'm much older and doubt I'd be able to play much of anything. I enjoyed your video so much. You play beautifully. If I had enough courage, Id try the cello, but I fear i'm getting too old to learn to play. Thank you for sharing your gift.

+Michele Zink Hi Michelle, I don't know how old you are but I started playing the violin at age 61 and the cello at 64 I'm really enjoying it and not doing too bad considering, I don't think you're ever too old, just go for it.
I played the cello for about 5 years, and then took up viola, now back to cello. I am sure it is not the case for you, but I found viola left hand technique extremely difficult, compared to the cello. Not a natural position, and that is what frustrated me with viola, as lovely an instrumemnt as it is. Go for it Michelle, maybe hire a cello and see how you gel with it.
Excellent. This is taught from the heart of a musician! Articulates the musical emotion, "flavor" and mechanics which is what I am looking for in my learning process. When I understand it in this frame of reference it makes so much sense. Thank you.

I’m trying to improve my music because I’ve been in playing cello for 2 years.. I change schools a lot so I never got anywhere but every teacher I had said I was a good musician so this video helps me get back into the rhythm of exploring
Excellent tutorial, thank you so much for your generosity in sharing this. This is very inspiring! This is an incredibly beautiful piece and an essential part of a cellist repertoire. I subscribed for the Virtual Sheet Music, which is helping me a lot with music sheet for my repertoire. Thank you so much!

Very nice explained! It is very helpful to see both the scores and the video at the same time! I find interesting the idea about the sound quality changing in order to highlight some notes. Putting a short delay in front notes, indeed, sounds very appealing. "You should study "The Swan" and you can do it all your lifetime!" - that's my favourite phrase!

What about starting it softly, and as you bring up the volume, bring in more vibrato - no vibrato on the first note, but a gentle one on the third, then keep building through the second triplet. I wouldn't keep the vibrato matching because you can create more interest with a controlled build

An amazing lesson, thanks a lot. Is it a secret what strings you use? They look very wide, also your bridge looks big. What cello and bow do you use? It sounds unbelievable good.
Can you explain to me why you are shifting on each different note? I play bass clef so this is really confusing when this piece is in tenor clef, which i don't think have used before. Could you explain??? I have played Violoncello for 2 or 3 years so far. Also, where can I get Violoncello sheet music for the swan without the piano part? Just Violoncello.
Hey, thanks for the video, very useful. Could you please recommend me a logical en progressive order to study the Bach suite no 2?...I mean, which dances do you consider to be studied first?

Do you have any tips on how to make the shifts as smooth as possible, but without an obvious glissando and without a noticeable break in bow speed? I've been working on The Swan for a few months now and it sounds "note-y" in a lot of spots, especially on the big shift in the first measure.

Im an intermediate cellist and it would have ben nice if you would have mention the sharped notes of the second phrase of the piece. I must say that this “lesson” is incomplete because you make no mention of notes you are referring to. Making a public video would necessitate it
Yes, vibrating with the 4th finger is always difficult. Start slowly on the 1st string first, just in 1st position. Then move slowly on the other strings first, and then on higher positions. Do it slowly, step-by-step, and I am sure you'll succeed!
