To all players who are new to this game or new with Destroyers. Please stop launching your random torps accros the map. I know you saw few of those replays where it hits something, but that almost never happends. So many times i saw a tier 4/5 destroyers first time coming on the _Two brothers_ map and launching torps in between those 2 mountains. Don't do that, you're wasting time, just go and cap some points. Also to those low tier japanese cruiser players, if you are playing Kuma and your torp range is 7km, don't launch them at targets 18km away from you. Im not kidding, this happends a lot
+Mirza Ajanovic It's called map denial - But it is mostly useless unless you're using the long range torps.
Shooting far out of range is so fucking annoying though - Especially when Cruisers does it right behind you while using a Destroyer.
+Mansen at 7km, there is no way you deny area for ships that are more than 10km away from you though. Even then, they have to sail towards you.
Mirza is right about the 2 Brothers example anyways, nobody goes there at the start (anymore) and it is much more useful to go to the flanks. A cruiser (optionally with torps) could guard it for some time, however.
Aerial denial is only useful when there is actually a area to deny, which is mostly access to the quickest route to friendly ships (or the enemies enemy ships ;) ) or a (choke)point near a cap, where you are certain someone might want to approac you from when you cap (early).
Kn Ops Like I said... You need long range torpedoes to do area denial...

+Mirza Ajanovic i love when they launch a torps to a target that isn't in their torpedo range, and that target is the one i'm engaging, so i turn to avoid incoming shots, spot friendly torps way too late and i'm dead, and they say it was my fault for sailing into them...

Wish i would have been following jingles sooner. I had a game in my t4 isokaze where i dealt 198,000 damage despite only sinking 4 ships.

as a BB driver I make constant note of DDs and torp planes... but I've noticed smart DD captains wait for you to start doing your emergency maneuvers before launching their spreads so you end up sailing into them. Tricky gits, really have to watch for the torp splash in those cases
+Kievan Al-Hassan The few of us who are clever will fire a fake spread, wait a few seconds and then fire a second (and third) to hit your emergency move.
Can be hard to counter that *sigh*, but I suppose you've messed up once they get that close anyway. though amusingly I've gotten pretty good at shooting at destroyers at all ranges as a result :P
Kievan Al-Hassan First thing you gotta learn as a BB. If you spot a Destroyer anywhere near, focus it down with HE.
Because you sure as hell can't assume anyone else notices or bothers with it. Most of my kills are ironically DDs that came too close - not bigger ships.

Wow that minekaze replay from Phatchanz almost rivaled the Cleveland from bowmanyao. What an EPIC game! One of those games that you need to take a breather before you jump into the next game.
OK jingles then, if it's so bloody easy to dodge torpedoes, then how in the name of Poesiden and Popeye, are you suppose to use them when the enemy team are not full of idiots?
+dragonkingofthestars Considering the average damage done by high tier destroyers don't increase much, I think it is safe to say "you are not supposed to".
That's obviously a bit polemic, but the point stands. At the higher tiers destroyers have serious issues getting torpedo hits outside of ambushes. Besides, it isn't as if Jingles singles out people that get hit, he singles out people that get hit stupidly. Like that St. Louis... I mean, what was he thinking?
I still get hit by torps now and then, but I can safely say that in 90% of those cases it is my own damn fault. I made a bad judgement call along the way, or ignored the evidence that there was a destroyer lurking or that torps are just very likely on their way towards me. Just like those Jingles point out. It isn't unfair to tell people that they didn't do it right when they can bloody well see the torps well in advance.
At the high tiers it becomes a bit of cat and mouse. The destroyer tries madly to anticipate which way the target will move, as he will NOT move in a straight line. Like this: "ok, he is moving towards some islands, so if he wants to get closer to the enemy he will have to move between them, but he probably wants protection so he will move close to island X, however since he is being fired upon by a battleship, he will probably slow down to make the battleship seek other targets in the meantime, but at the same time he noticed my last volley against that battleship over there, so he is aware I'm here and will not be so predictable, hence I'll have to launch my torps further back."
Sometimes it works out spectacularly, mostly it doesn't at all. That's the price of people playing with consideration towards enemy torpedoes.

I wish you wouldn't laugh hysterically every time some torpedos hit a battleship, they're not exactly known for their maneuverability. My sense of humour must just be terrible I guess.

24 hits at long range? I got 21 hits in close range with a Sampson T2 DD. FIRST multiplayer game I ever played in the Sampson (I'd probably played about 50 co-op games in various ships though), and it's still my best result. Screenshots, but no replay (I never expected to record anything worth watching again - and it took forever to figure out I actually WAS taking screenshots with PrintScrn) and it COST me 300 gold, the price of a port slot, 'cause I can never sell that Sampson now. Worth it. 90K damage, 1819 xp modified to 8187 xp on a triple score on opening weekend. Meh. T2 is just luck, but it sure was fun.
Love the "bloody ship" videos, Jingles. I've been watching tank videos for over a year without playing the game. They're good, but not nearly as good as the videos about I game I'm actually playing every day. I hope I don't get bored with it, as you grew bored with War Thunder arcade. Sorry to hear about the flu. You probably would have caught it from someone else if Rita hadn't caught it first. Loved the Judge Jingles costumes. Actually bought the movie months ago (in 3D, but 3D is a whole other can of worms.) Will probably be re-watching all your bloody ship videos before I'm done. Fair call that some BB 'drivers' don't turn till they see the toros but the rudder takes a fair time to make the ship turn effectively
I'd really love to see the Akizuki class destroyer in the game, premium or otherwise. Loved playing that ship in Battlestations Pacific.
I've got to protest Jingles. Great and hilarious game by Phatchanz. I'm an IJN DD player myself and I've made similar mistakes and sometimes come up trumps just like Phatchanz did (though usually I end up getting sunk rather quickly). So I'm not poking fun at Phatchanz because I've done far, far, worse myself!
But 24 torpedo hits and 6 ships destroyed? Something is seriously amiss, Jingles. How come when I play my IJN DDs, enemy battleships and cruisers are EXPERTS, absolute experts, at dodging my torps? The amount of brain power I've got to use to outsmart these guys is incredible and despite my efforts, luck and the ability of my team to distract my targets is still a significant factor.
Forget about constantly crashing into islands and being spotted: this guy repeatedly fires his torps and ALL... ALL... 100%... of his opponents continue to sail in a straight line with almost religious zeal and get constantly hit by 50% - 75% of his torp spread? That torp hit rate is so high it may as well be supernatural and it only ever happens to me if I play my tier II Umakaze with a bunch of first time players who are genuinely unfamiliar with the quick death an unchallenged torpedo destroyer can inflict upon the unwary. Whenever I play, especially at tier V, enemy captains buck and dodge the moment I am spotted... and even if I'm not spotted, you'd be surprised how many times I've seen enemy captains blithely dodge several salvos of my sneaky torpedos. As you say, it's not hard to dodge torps.
I want to play in games like Phatchanz where my opponents only sail in a straight line and don't give a damn if they see me. "Oh look, a Minekaze destroyer... one of the deadliest torpedo destroyers in the game... I don't care, I'm a battleship/cruiser and I'm freaking going to keep sailing in a straight line. Some old rust bucket destroyer isn't going to tell me what to do!"
I am insanely jealous that the opponents I play against all seem to have a brain and I have to work extra hard to get my torp kills. If I get one kill per game and survive I'm happy. If I get two kills, I'm over the moon. On the rare occasion Lady Luck smiles upon me I end up sinking more than two enemy ships in a game... but 24 torp hits? You have got to be f***ing kidding me!

He made some serious failures but he got lucky away and still made more damage than most manage with higher tier ships. He fully deserved the price. 200k Damage is fantastic! How much might the whole enemy fleet could spend on his torpedos? 400k? That is really an amazing result.
The torpedo range nerf on the Minekaze is not the nerf at all.
It is the fact you get spotted at ~6.2km instead of ~5.8km..
As you've said: The 7km are the fast torpedoes and were the weapon of choice anyway.

11:20 That's why I ALWAYS launch my spotter - if I have one, early in the match - not immediately, but if I am following my team's DDs.
I watch people like Phly Daily, and Baron Von Games (who seems to enjoy using the wrong type of ammunition just for the responses in the comment section) - who almost NEVER use their spotter/fighter aircraft! Phly does once in a blue moon, but usually only as help with AA! Which while that makes some amount of sense, using spotters early, given you aren't hanging at the back of the map - will make your life SO much easier - especially in a cruiser, against enemy DDs!

Jingles do you forget how slow those BB's turn? Or more particular that they take forever to start to turn. I don't know how many times I have tried to guess where they are coming from and end up turning into the torps.

I was rather disappointing that it will reward the premium ship from higher tier ship dues to amount of HP and Damage. But I've give what I gotten in my Nicolas and that all it matter to me. Is 4,000 base xp (premium account) too low compare to higher tier ships by chance?
Poor 'not Destroyer' players are constantly get bashed how easy it is to avoid getting hit by torpedoes. I'm really curious about other gameplay vids where we can see a glorious BB dodging every torp, sent by DDs and CV Torp planes in a glorious fashion. :)
+The Sentinel Even if the BB is dodging all the torps, it is never glorious. It just means your carriers, cruisers, and destroyers are so bad that they let a BB get attacked like that.
I've dodged a crap-ton of torps in the South Carolina; it's quite doable. Course changes, speed changes, turning into incoming torpedo bomber squadrons and hoping that the carrier is dumb: all good tactics until you get to mid and higher tiers.
'hoping that the carrier is dumb" - lol that's pretty much all that saves the south carolina is that most people just got their carriers & don't know how to manual drop yet.
+KamikazKid Indeed. At higher tiers you are not always so lucky. I've seen a tier 10 Midway sinking a north carolina with just 1 torp run - he did his best to avoid but the turning of a BB, and the amount of torps coming at you is just too much, especially when the CV player is experienced.
+CodyProxyify My point exactly. Anyways, it's just the millionth of time that Mr. Jingles says, evading torps is child's play but actually it isn't. High tier games are full of torps, sea is spammed with torps without end and it gets really obvious when you start driving your precious BB ;)

Besides - No one in their right minds play anything past Tier VI with how the economy is now. You're going to lose money unless you're consistently doing well - and more importantly, be a sub.
+Mansen Yes it's a bit strange, from tier 1 to 6/7 it's quite doable, you get enough credits to buy the next ship. However i've a tier 8 North Carolina now, and although i really like the ship it's so expensive in use, you're almost loosing credits seeing how much repair costs. And then i'm not even thinking about buying the tier 9 Iowa when i have enough XP...

+The Mighty Jingles You're correct there's no excuse for eating torpedoes in a Myogi or a Kongo. it can dodge with minor course corrections because it's fast. This fact does not hold true for slow battleships like the South Carolina, Kawachi, Wyoming, and New York. You just go too slow for the minor course correction that worked in Myogi or Kongo to be of any use because you'll still be in his torpedo spread if he was smart and fired just short of the torpedo indicator. Honestly if you want to maybe survive a 1v1 with a destroyer be brave sir robin & bravely run away. If you keep a destroyer to your stern he has to fire at much shorter range to hit you & he has to turn away to torpedo so you know when he has fired torpedoes and can alter course. Plus you might get him with either your secondaries if he's American DD or shotgun him with main guns.

Minekaze is straigh up OP as balls. The "nerf" to it was a joke. They extended detection range by 300m. Slap camo onto the ship and it's detection is back down to 5.9km. The removal of the 10km torpedoes wasn't even a nerf. It forced people to use the better of the 2 torpedo choices. The Isokaze is just as bad, if not worse. It really irritates me that in order for a US DD player to get better torps than IJN T4 torps, you have to be playing the upgraded Fletcher, which is a tier 9 with over 70,000 exp of upgrades :P
+Captain_Dorja I agree. Even before the nerf I used the 7km torps. Seemed a no brainer to me, I found the 'nerf' to be quite relaxed as nerfs go, still a great ship
+mema0005 yep, me too. the stock torpedoes have always been the better ones by far, so why drop them? I am at the Mutsuki right now and I'm not very fond of the torpedoes (or the ship...). The Minekaze is probably the highlight of the whole IJN DD tree. I'd definitely pick it over the Mutsuki, if I actually could and I would probably even use it in T10 battles instead of the Shimakaze. IF I COULD.
Kn Ops I haven't played the Shima, but I think is it bit much to say you'd rather have Minekaze in t10 over the Shima. Shima firing her 3x5 launcher can make a torp wall where you almost literally cannot avoid the torps. Also, they do a hell of a lot more damage.
Captain_Dorja But the Minekaze can fire its torps about every 40 seconds (not just every...what, 3 minutes?). Maybe it won't beat the Shimakaze, now that I looked at its stats on the wikia. Same torp speed, but more dangerous torps and 7.6km detection range. I could see Minekazes fair quite well however, especially if they get close to the even bigger BBs at the higher tiers.
I'm fairly certain that the Minekaze could replace most of the ships above it without being changed at all, though. The seemingly endless reload times for the higher IJN DDs are a potential deal-breaker.
Kn Ops yeah to be honest, I would nerf the torp reload on the Minekaze pretty hard if I were trying to balance this game. 42 seconds is too fast.
Your audio is quite soft compared to other uploaders Jingles, always have to turn mine up significantly. Like 75%

19:30 May I point out the torps where fired aft of the lead marker, so the Kongo most likely DID turn in, but that played into FatChance's torpedoes. And that was happening all through that replay. If they'd sailed dead straight then there would have been FEWER hits.
Which is consistent with my experience of torpedoes arriving perfectly centered no matter how violent of a course change I make or how erratic my course has been in the time the torps would have been in the water.

T5-10 have 130mm guns and speeds of up to 44knots!

+Kn Ops (Knops) Their turret turn times are very japanese, and their spotting range is even worse than american counterparts. Those are mini cruisers, more than destroyers
+Kn Ops (Knops) Artificially buffed regardless if they are real or paper designs. The fastest WW2 era destroyer class where the French Le Fantasque who made 45 knots on trial without a lot of there fittings like there guns or torpedoes and in very calm seas. Generally speaking it helps for warships to have there armament. A lot of ships never made there claimed speed. Only the German and British navies there ships generally speaking make designed speeds because they calculated them with all equipment and crew. It makes sense to test like this but apparently not.
Back to the destroyers. Neither the fully build and Le Fantasque class nor the extremely fast Japanese destroyer Shimakaze went past 40 knots in operational condition. Reaching this speed only happens in calm sea. In rough seas a destroyer will not make more than 25 knots because the ship will become a living hell to be on if you try to go faster, let alone risking the chance that the ship will capsize. Most Soviet WW2 destroyers where terrible ships in real life with poor see keeping and problems with structural integrity. Even if they could make 40 knots which most couldn't it would be downright dangerous for these ships to do that. Most destroyers of the era suffered from either structural integrity problems or poor see keeping. Having both those issues makes for a bad ship...
+Kn Ops (Knops) most of them are historical. The t9 and t10 were never built, but the t2-t8 were all built and in active service.
+DaniëlWW2 I've been looking at these Sov DDs a lot in game, and I've also been playing DDs a lot lately (grinding the Mahan) and I really don't think that the speed being a few knots faster is going to make any real difference. Minekaze is 5 knots faster than Omaha, but if that Omaha can see you and use you in good firing range, you can't outrun his shells. These Russian DDs are big, with terrible detection values, and only the tier 9 and tier 10 have decent torpedoes. They are going to be shooting all the time, detected all the time, and being shot at all the time. I think they are going to be the hardest DDs in the game to do well in. Sure, the 43 knot top speed might not be 100% historically accurate, but neither is pressing a button to instantly repair engines, or a smoke screen the projects outwards 360 degrees.
These are some pretty damn good replays. The most damage I've ever done with my American DDs is 193k and that was in a Fletcher. Why can't I ever get these BBs that drive in straight lines? It seems like every team I go up against always takes every precaution to avoid torpedoes I haven't even launched just because they think I might have. BB players are learning Jingles I think it's just that you get all the high damage replays showing the ones who don't. Sure I still get those really good spreads once in a while but it usually only happens when I'm at extremely close range. For the most part if I'm at a long distance even if I haven't been spotted BBs at higher tiers will usually change their speed often just in case.

I dunno if anyone has mentioned this yet, but since you're sick, your vocal volume is much quieter. Unfortunately, I'm a bit limited on speakers, so I really can't hear you. Would you consider increasing the volume for your voice while you're sick? It would be really helpful.

On the subject of teamkilling, I once had an aoba on my team who hit me numerous times and almost killed me while I was spotting the enemy DDs. AFTER I sunk them, he started firing at me, saying if i didn't want to be shot I should get out of the line of fire. The thing is, there were no enemies spotted at that end of the map...
