OCR has been around for ages but the way its being used now is slightly differently. Google Translate for example had this feature for years

Very cool! OCR technology has of course been available with scanners and their software for 25 years, but is amazing when applied on your device. For Note users (or Ultra 21 users like me) who have a stylus, you can use the Smart select feature using your pen to select an area within the item visible on your screen (it doesn’t even have to be from the gallery), and then extract the text. You can then copy the text, or even share it immediately. Thank you for the great video!

Thanks again for all your wonderful tech advice! I have a Note 10plus, and love all it's powerful features, which brings me to my question . With Samsung gearing up to discontinue many cloud features, will we have to worry about being able to continue uploading/using Samsung Notes? I also use the very old version, "S Notes", from earlier days (many notes left from the old version), and do not wish to lose them! Just wondering if you might be able to shed any light on this upcoming issue! Thanks in advance🙂

Not sure I'd use the copy text function as much. The translate option seems a lot more handy, to me anyway

Hey saki you can do that with smart select also. Please make a video on that many doesn't know it.
You can also use smart select, simply drag and hit done, then hit extract text. It's more fun with stylus devices like the note 10 or tab s6, etc.

This requires me to enable Bixby, and evidently give it full permissions. Sorry, but that's a non-starter for me.

How are you swiping up to go to other open programs?
Android PlayStore & market places have very many OCR programs. So many that it is hard to choose. Most (all?) freeware, and many frequently updated.

Check out "Good Lock" in the galaxy store, then it's one of those sub-apps.
Good Lock is what you want if you really want to customize the look of your galaxy

When I learned my gallery knows what my pictures contain, I never struggled finding memes in the thousands of pictures I have.

Google keeps digging through your files though with Bixby on... this data then probably gets added to your Google profile
This was the feature from Note 4's photo note years ago, refined into a Bixby Vision.

Google lens is what I use for reading different languages it links toy s20 ultra camera when you hold your camera over the document it translated every on screen without having to snap a pic amd translating it, it just done it on screen with everything when hold.lens over the text etc it's very cool! I'm dad's tablet got hacked the other night to Chinese pinyin text we couldn't read it as soon as held my camera over the screen it Changed everything to English so I was able to press correct buttons amd read there program etc very very handy indeed!

Nice , but there Is another way that I'm using , it's call Rectangle I find it directly from the side menu , first you select the text after that you can extract it and paste it.

@@hamode20001 pretty much but there are some more features with this eg selection of only what you wish to extract, 🔎 searching any related information to what you just extracted etc
