    4K Test clips that were played in this video ranges from: Local Dimming Tests, Screen Uniformity Tests, Stress Sample Clips (Fireworks, OLED Clips), Gameplay Clips, & Movies.
    Be advised that while I've viewed the TV straight on, the filming of this video was done at an angle hence more blooming will show up than expected. I could not crouch while filming as it would be difficult to maneuver. The TV was unfortunately placed at an awkward position.
    Please note: I was manually and deliberately increasing and decreasing the exposure multiple times throughout the entire video with the intention to capture local dimming and blooming behavior.
    At around 10 mins in, the picture settings are explored briefly, and I noticed that local dimming was set to "medium", after which I switched to "high". Left everything else at the default Vivid store preset though I usually prefer the other more color accurate modes.
    At the end of the video, a flashlight is directed at the screen for a basic reflection handling test.
    Throughout the video, the exposure of the camera is increased and decreased multiple times via ISO and Shutter Speed to hunt for blooming while also showing what our eyes would see. (Tried my best to stick to 1/60 shutter speed as the video is captured at 30 FPS)
    Was also moving from center, left and right positions to sample viewing angle and blooming.
    [ First Impressions of the TV in a brightly lit store environment ]
    Using the hockey dirty screen test clip, there doesn't seem to be any obvious uniformity issues on that display unit. Was trying to hunt for grid line issues as seen in Samsung's QN90B/A (Can't recall which).
    Some blooming (though quite small in size and faint/dim) is seen when the TV was viewed dead centered, it's not as bad as the X90K (Hazy mess imo) and X95K. From the last time I've seen the X95L 65", the Bravia 9 is definitely brighter than the X95L though I'm comparing between the 65" X95L and the 75" Bravia 9 so this comparison is a disadvantage to the X95L as larger sized TVs have more dimming zones. Small (10%-40% window) highlights in dark scenes are intensely bright, my eyeballs felt those scorching nits, especially when there are scenes of metal surface reflecting environmental light, e.g sunlight, power crystals etc.
    During the Horse-riding scene with the trainer (at 8:33), while gradually overexposing the image over a span of a few seconds, blooming was hardly seen in that footage even while in vivid mode, overexposed and at a slightly off-angle. I went to the extent of walking toward extreme angles in hopes to reveal some blooming, but it didn't seem noticeable.
    During the Rocket League Game Test clips (at 12:53), while the car is rapidly moving, the local dimming doesn't seem to behave crazily like what I've witnessed on both the X90L and X95L where there are rapid moving flashes/halos/light bloom around the car during fast maneuvers. This is an indication that there is an improvement either due to an updated dimming algorithm or the increased zone count.
    During the Ark Survival Evolve Gameplay clip (at 17:16) where the character traverses through the dark dungeon/cave, I did notice less hazing compared to the X95L.
    To conclude this short impression, this is seemingly better than the X95L. In not too complex scenes (without miniature highlights), this screen is a light cannon with even less hazing compared to the X95L and X90L. Keep in mind these are first impressions (not a review) observed in a brightly lit store environment. Please wait for reviews from RTINGS, HDTVTest and DigitalTrends AND see it in person before making final judgement!
    Looking forward for the review from RTINGs, HDTVTest and DigitalTrends!
    If you're in the same boat, please vote for both the Bravia 7 and 9 on the RTINGs review pipeline here:
    www.rtings.com/review-pipelin...
    Additional Info related to Bravia 7 & 9:
    It has been confirmed by the Sony Tech Department that the Bravia 7 will have the same Micro Circuit Backlight Drivers and Local Dimming algorithm as seen on the Bravia 9.

    Please note: I was manually and deliberately increasing and decreasing the exposure multiple times throughout the entire video with the intention to capture local dimming and blooming behavior. The Bravia 9 most certainly look brighter with less blooming than the X95K and X95L in my opinion. Couldn't stand the K series's blooming and hazing. The Bravia 9 is at an above tolerable level though it still struggles at the miniature highlight scenes e.g fireworks.
    Looking forward for the review from RTINGs, HDTVTest (Vincent) and DigitalTrends (Caleb)!

      @@91DivineAngel If you don't notice blooming on the X95L, I'm quite positive the Bravia 9's blooming I've noticed, will be a non-issue with your settings and environment. I've tested the 65" X95L with similar settings as the 75" Bravia 9 and there was visibly more hazing on the X95L, though the hazing wasn't as bad as the X90K and X95K, the X90K was a cloudy haze machine to me.

    Emptrix, thank you for inviting me in your opening comments above!
    Love your Video of Sony's new Flagship BRAVIA 9 QD MiniLED TV. Sony engineers designed the BRAVIA 9 and even the BRAVIA 7 with significant advancements in QD MiniLED display technology and with their Backlight Master Drive that has also been very nicely upgraded. Sony's BRAVIA 9 and BRAVIA 7's Backlight Master Drive now controls not only each individual tinny MiniLED, but they now control the luminance level of every MiniLED, which is how they designed their new Sony BVM-HX3110 Master Grading Monitor.
    All other TV brands just control the local dimming zones.
    I just liked and subscribed to your channel! I'll also share it on Facebook and other A/V forums.

      @@valueelectronics9390 Thanks for the invitation and the opportunity to participate in an evaluation shootout event, very much appreciated! Hope to see both the Bravia 7 and 9 included in it!
      Additionally, thanks for sharing that in-depth information of how Sony has implemented the MiniLED system this year on the Bravia 9 and 7! From the Sony tech video here at: 57:39 ua-cam.com/users/liveHE0UNCfDhw4?si=5XVG3DMsSKXb0lmA&t=3459, they elaborate further on your statement that the Bravia 7 will have the same micro circuit backlight drivers and algorithm as the Bravia 9, just with lesser zones.

    • @valueelectronics9390
      @valueelectronics9390 2 місяці тому +7

      @@Liberates Yes, just the BRAVIA 9 and BRAVIA 7 share the same Backlight Master Drive that is also used on Sony's new Mastering Monitor, the BVM-HX3110.
      So each tiny MiniLED is controlled for on/off and the luminance level is also controlled. All other local dimming TV brands only control the luminance level of each entire local dimming zone.
      One of the advantages of Sony's flagship BRAVIA 9 vs. the BRAVIA 7 is that the BRAVIA 9 has more MiniLEDs, and more local dimming zones so the BRAVIA 9 has higher peak luminance, with gives it a larger dynamic tonal range for more depth and detailed images with all content.

      In a dark room the G4 would win in contrast. In a Dimly lit room. It's not as certain. Because blacks would appear more similar because the room is no longer the "blackest" surrounding. Also the brightness of this TV would make a lot of scenes brighter than the G4. At least in higher nit content, it would slay the G4.
      Shadow detail and accuracy tested with mastering monitor. The Bravia 9 would be tuned by Sony to be accurate.
      So I think they would trade blows in different areas. And that is a pretty good thing for a MiniLED if you ask me.

      It does in fact have very good contrast in person! Blacks are deep and it should look much better in a moderately lit room as compared to this bright show floor as seen here where light is bouncing in all directions on the screen. As for the colors, it is oversaturated here because the TV is in Vivid mode throughout the video. In the other more natural/accurate modes, the colors will be less saturated and more natural to the source content.

      Yes, for the entire video, it is in vivid mode. Treat this video as a preview/torture for the worst-case scenario (blooming-wise). If it performs this great in vivid mode, it should perform better in any other modes you throw at it. I did also deliberately overexpose multiple times in the video to show the local dimming behavior and bloom size, which in normal viewing is difficult to notice (unless perhaps in a dark room).

  • @rushikesh3443
    @rushikesh3443 2 місяці тому +8

      Yeah not going to survive a torture test . Was it Digital trends just saying a Hisense model look real good. Add in TCL coming.
      I think people will be choosing based on like of brand, price and the big one processing. Sony has good processing, but they have taken ages in past to get promised features out, or bugs sorted - eg See A95L , still has bugs . Plus LG has priced it's TVs stupidly high in my country, so great to have competition . Hopefully prices will drop, when new models from other companies hit the market . Same for the Samsung S95D 77" stupid price , but if last year is to go by they will massively discount that as well,. No guarantees with S90D what panel you will get, so unless shop says no way Jose

    • @Emptrix
      @Emptrix  2 місяці тому +3

      Yes this is a preview showcasing worse-case scenario/torture test. When I decrease exposure multiple times in the video, the blooming isn't noticeable though some of the scenes with small miniature highlights still exhibits blooming but the size of the bloom is small. The TV is also in vivid mode/torch mode which is the brightest mode in a sony tv and I'm capturing the video not dead centered. It should perform better in an ideal environment and setting. • @Emptrix
      @Emptrix  2 місяці тому +1

      @@ramitmehta Consider waiting for the reviews from RTINGs, HDTVTest and DigitalTrends.
      If your purpose for switching from the A95L to the Bravia 9 is for higher brightness and you're not overly sensitive to blooming (the blooming on the Bravia 9 75" is not at the severe level as the X90K and X95K from 2022, those were outright cloudy haze machines), the Bravia 9 is likely to fulfill your purpose. I'm positive that the Bravia 9 will be rated highly by the 3 mentioned reviewers above, due to the fact that I noticed an improvement in micro contrast over the X95L (which has already been revealed to be one of the better MiniLEDs in 2023).
      The Bravia 9 is not going to hold up against the A95L when it comes to micro contrast/scenes with tiny highlights and shadows mixed together, such as the fireworks scene. The dimming zones on the Bravia 9 are still larger than the individually illuminated pixels of the A95L OLED panel to achieve that.
      It'll all depend on our individual tolerance level for blooming, some people might not notice or can tolerate blooming even on the X90K/X95K, some might find last year's X95L blooming to be tolerable (I did found it tolerable), Bravia 9 has lesser blooming than the X95L based off what I saw in the store.
      How did you find viewing angles? As we know OLEDs have natural advantage of having superior viewing angles, it is recommended that you test your tolerance on this as well. Walk towards the extreme side of the TV from the center and monitor how the picture changes on both your A95L and the Bravia 9. See if you notice any differences in colors, contrast and blooming.
      Be advised these are impressions of the Bravia 9 observed in a brightly lit store environment. I strongly recommend waiting for at least one of the 3 reviewers before making your final decisions. They go significantly more in-depth with tools capable of measuring light output, response time, color volume and more. This way you'll feel more comfortable and confident with your purchase.

      @@Emptrix thanks for the thorough response! to me personally the a95L has been a treat to watch (primarily watch at night after the kid goes to bed). reason for upgrading would be the appeal of the 85“ screen size vs the current 65“. I am also considering the 77“ G4 which would be priced similar to the 85“ Bravia 9. Tough decisions 😂

    • @Emptrix
      @Emptrix  2 місяці тому +1

      @@ramitmehta Tough decisions indeed! The G4 is also another impressive TV. Agreed about the size/price ratio, it is reasonable to go for the larger screen as you'll get more immersion from the larger field of view.
      It would be easier if you've already owned a MiniLED TV or an LCD TV with at least a Full-Array Local Dimming System. Since you're coming from an OLED which has no blooming/clouding due to the self-illuminated pixels, it is difficult to tell whether your tolerance/sensitivity level for blooming on a MiniLED TV is extreme or mild. As you've stated that you usually use the TV at night, if the TV is used in a dim/dark room, blooming on a non-OLED TV can be more pronounced, though this again would depend on your sensitivity and tolerance level. Furthermore, the Bravia 9 is very likely to be one of the best MiniLEDs this year, if you're not that sensitive to blooming, there is a possibility that it could be a non-issue for you. And if it ends up being a non-issue, you will enjoy the extra brightness that comes with it over the A95L.

      No idea on that, it is best to head over to the official sony youtube channel and ask there. There's a sony rep Larry who seems to be from the sony engineering department. Or ask on the AVSForums. Or if anyone has answers for this please share it here.

    • @Emptrix
      @Emptrix  2 місяці тому

      While there is blooming, please keep in mind this is a blooming/local dimming torture test preview, where I deliberately adjust the exposure of the camera multiple times throughout the video, with the intention of hunting for blooming for the sake of understanding the TV's local dimming behavior, hence blooming is much more pronounce in this video than what you would see in real life.
      If you found the X95L tolerable in the blooming department, it is likely that you find the Bravia 9 better when you see it in person.
      It is recommended to see the TV in person and wait for the reviews from RTINGs, HDTVTest and DigitalTrends before making your purchasing decisions

    Wow Singapore already have 2024 Bravia 9 MiniLED? and already available for purchase? Wow that is fast
    If that is the case, then Sony Malaysia factory must already be producing 2024 Bravia units for South East Asia.
    By the way, is Bravia 8 OLED also available there?
    If so, how do you compare it with last year Bravia A80L OLED?
    Also, how do you compare this new Sony MiniLED with Sony Bravia OLED?

    • @Emptrix

      Yes the Bravia 8 and Bravia 9 are available for pre-order in Singapore, there's an ongoing promotion that bundles them with a PS5. No sight of the Bravia 7 unfortunately. (I'm told by a Sony Singapore rep that it will only be available for viewing and purchase at the end of May)!
      I've caught a glimpse of the Bravia 8 on display at Sony's Somerset 313 store but wasn't able to play any test clips on it hence not able to give any impressions on the 8.

      In terms of blooming, please do also be reminded that I manually adjust exposure of the camera, increasing and decreasing multiple times throughout the video with intentions to observe local dimming behavior. Hence blooming though is still present in complicated footage like the fireworks, might appear tolerable to you when you view it in person.
      Let's wait for the reviews to show up from RTINGs, HDTVTest and Digital Trends. I'm quite positive that they will rate local dimming performance to be better than the X95L.
