Not having to feel powerful could really feel like a relief. I can go climb a tree and just be. Give myself permission to be just another one of the kids.
Thanks for reminding everyone that humility is not a bad thing and does not threaten our personal sovereignty. These two things can exist together. They are not mutually exclusive.

This episode was an answer to "thing " (event) that happened to me several years ago,that I have been struggling with mentally.And last night I consciously found myself spiraling "out of control" and reaching for a pint of ice cream and anxiety med to escape the uncomfortableness of my thoughts. I asked my HS why? And then this episode of yours, Adam was the first thing I listened to this morning, and low and behold, there was my answer in those 12 steps that I am familiar with. "I am powerless over ppl, places, and yes "things. " I paused and admitted this to myself, and my peace of mind was restored. My HP, who I believe in, answered me through you. I am grateful for your words today and just want to say to you, "Well done, good and faithful servant." This was so relevant to me. I am going back to these first two steps, and yes, I am going to try and keep them "relevant" in my life once again❤ Thank you, Adam

Perfect timing to reference The 12 Steps! The 12 Steps have been such a lovely spiritual guide for my second half of life paradigm✨🙏🏻 Adam I am so happy you reference the 12 Steps and touched on the fact that in the 12 Steps, God is, whatever an individual understands as their God. It is such an incredibly beautiful concept that AA presents; such a fantastic act of Free Will; to create my understanding of what God is for me!

It is difficult to talk about power in a nuanced way. I think when people are talking about power in the context of their lives they are mostly talking about agency not dominance.

Thank you for this. Feeling "part-of" is far more nutritious for me than feeling grand. A young guy in a 12 step group who had been struggling with his notion of a Higher Power decided that, just for today, "Integrity" would be his higher power. I loved that.

Thank you for exploring the etymology of these cherished words we throw around so easily. This simple act of delving into the meaning of terms we think we already understand is a very "empowering" 😁practice! Your meditation today opened a floodgate of realizations for me on this topic.
Here is just one example: Since childhood, I have operated in the unconscious belief that I was inherently wrong (sinful) and that "I should be better than this." So, I learned to please others and work hard to gain their praise in order to feel some modicum of worthiness.
When the unconscious patterns became conscious to me I started working hard to "take my power back." Through therapy, journaling, affirmations, energy work and meditation I began to know myself more... but still I suffered and raged against my weakness for many years.
Very recently, I realized that what I really needed was PERMISSION and COURAGE to follow through on my intuitive guidance without seeking the approval of others or explaining myself to them. So I am now giving myself permission to be OK with being a flawed human who cannot be all things to all people (God complex much?).
When I feel "disempowered" that is a red flag for me to notice where I am hiding something from myself.
Turns out, the "power" I was trying to "take back" was hiding within all the aspects of myself I have repressed and denied-all so I could gain approval and feel like I was "a good person."
Why do I need permission to do what I feel is right for me?
Why do I suppress my courage or will to follow through?
For me, the answer is always fear of being judged or of disappointing others. And when I realize that others' expectations and judgments have nothing to do with me, then I give myself permission to not give a sh*t what they think🤣...and that empowers me to be more loving and accepting toward myself and others.

The idea that idea of sovereignty is toxic is usually used against women and usually when they vere away from certain areas of proscribed thinking or break from the dominant discourse. The concept of "toxic sovereignty" started being batted around alot circa 2020.
Someone who has had the ability to devote a great deal of their time to spiritual practice and self-actualization and has been able to reap the benefits of that might not view the concept in the same way as someone who has spent most of their time playing their role or serving their family..
This makes me think about Bayo Akomolafe and his ideas on post activism. That "need" for power tends to become an addictive cycle that only gets us into a more chaotic state of being. When we step into the perspective of the witness, we can see our "part" of the great unfolding of things. Many of the conflicts we avoid by seeking power are the same creation/destruction cycles that were, are, and always will be the gifts of being here in this incarnation to be a part of it.

I believe most people mean sovereignty and empowerment as the sense of “control” only over the self. Personally, I didn't have that consciously (and that's very funny here). I had this sense of sovereignty over myself unconsciously, meaning without knowing who I truly am-more than a human. My journey to becoming conscious of who I am showed me that I functioned only due to others' conditioning of me that took away my sense of sovereignty and empowerment and the right to decide for myself individually. And my dad has been a patriarch and tyrant who controlled my very movements and thoughts through his conditioning. That's what they mean, but it should probably be more said this way. Thanks! ♾️✨💎🧚

Feeling the Infinite possibilities of going within 🩷to connect with nature. Stepping inside a Tree, becoming the tree & the tree being me; feeling into the tallest branches & leaves & feeling the expansion of oneness with the tree & connecting with Mars & all the Stars.
I find it a difference between power over someone or something and to be aware about our true potential (which I so often see people underestimate).
Interestingly in roman languages power means poder which translates to „can“.
I also know the heavy burden I load on to my shoulders that I do the right things in the right way so that it has an effect. And it‘s beautiful to let go of it and realize that it is enough to just be.
interesting -- I went to the Greek word for sin which is amartia -- which actually means "to miss the mark."
I Love your philosophical break down. We would get along great. I had a small metaphysical store for over 20 years. I was small… sustainable. Had no intentions of getting bigger. Our store did a lot of community outreach. Until the narcissistic law came in and pissed on all that was sacred. I’m 4’11’’ and these 6 foot monster misogynists dog piled me to comply with their zero sum war games. Their band width requires too much for nothing. It was impossible to be at peace while being gas lit into war. I’m still traumatized. I Needed to here it is ok to be small. So tired of being hammered to be more.enough is enough. HugZ

I love your philosophy, the mix of your life so far - I am 80 and you are in your 30s? and you explain the sacred mix with the mundane and always going to the root so one can truly begin to take it deeply within and then incorporate it into our daily life. I would highly recommend the works of bell hooks as the way she goes about defining patriarchy and feminism has greatly expanded and helped me learn myself more about the differing meanings of power, power dynamics, authority, authenticity, and sovereignty. I appreciate when you brought up hierarchies because there are definitely some implicit power dynamics within our world right now that elevates the cis-het white males on a pedestal over all other groups in our society and anyone who do not fit into the preferred social norms of said society. I am always learning more about this topic and I hope my comment serves as a gentle suggestion to engage with the literature that has specialized in this topic for years. This is very helpful and mind blowing… deep dive… dovetails nicely with my therapy.
This had been a big theme in my life currently. I now work as a waitress, having run my own businesses in the past. The current boss and younger new chef have tyrannical tendencies. I have made only a couple suggestions on how to improve the workplace and my suggestions have been viewed as having an attitude, and not appreciated. I've been in shock. Coming from a place of caring to be view as needing to know my place ( in the hierarchy).
Humbling understanding that some people are very different from me.

People that say “Down with the patriarchy” must distinguish between the false masculine tyranny and the true Divine Father Principle. Then ask the question of “What causes a False Patriarchy?” The false masculine is devoid of the feminine. So the correct way of phrasing “Down with the patriarchy” is really “Unifying the masculine with the feminine”. There is so much power in the tiny drop of water that impacts a still pond. The drop is felt and ripples outwards in time. Life changing awakening moments are similar in the way. How I felt about them a day after, a week, a month, and years later are the rings of ripples connected to the point of awakening impact.
Yesterday I was thinking about how tired I am of hearing the term “power struggles” - I tap out.

Adam I loved your talk. I have been preparing to give a Satsang on the topic of surrender. Your talk will inform mine, and I appreciate it. What springs to mind and led to commenting is the Yin/Yang symbol. The tiny white dot in a field of black and visa versa. One meaning of this symbol is that everything at its extreme inevitably turns into it's opposite. For example, as Byron Katie often says, "Defense is the first act of war". Feeling vulnerable and small and under attack we justify aggression. My spiritual Master once discussed how violence is sometimes necessary, but we are charged with being exquisitely aware of whether or not it is necessary or a personal desire for power.

I'm so grateful for this video. I have Jupiter in Cap conj a Sag AC trine Mars. Also SN in H8. I have been working through themes of power and significance all of my life. I recently had a realization that I'm not as powerful as I think I am. Life jas certainly brought lots of humility to my door (saturn H5 square sun H2). I think pluto transiting out of Cap into Aqua is helping me to embrace more of my NN Aquarius and letting go of this idea that I need to be powerful and above the rest. Becoming more conscious of how these capitalistic themes are making me unhappy, bitter, tired amd resentful has been like cold water poured over my head. I'm simply learning how to be happy to be one of many cogs in the wheel of daily living. It is kind of hard to let go of the old SN Leo H8 ideals but I'm slowly getting there. Pluto is conj NN in Aqua by 5° and I can certainly feel the shift and the dissipating of desperate need to be almighty, in control, and be powerful.

this Mars Jupiter conjunction is happening right conjunct my Gemini Moon and it‘s at the same degrees the Gemini New Moon on June 6th happened which was conjunct my Natal Moon not just by degree but even by minute 🤯
And since I am a Scorpio rising and Mars is my ruler this feels extra spicy and well let‘s just say this happening in the 8th House is most definitely giving me astro anxiety 😅😭

There is such a huge and def dif between tie patriarchy and the fallen patriarchy!

patriarchy protects provides invests and contains

Patriarchy uplifts
Fallen patriarchy knocks you down keeps you down and only lets you up if you do their bidding

And it’s a system of dynamics
of forces and behaviors and actions
That go against the contract of what is true
The beauty of truth is that it Simultaneously proves all their truths at once because it’s deeper than the storyline
It is actually dimensional wielding itself that is truth not whatever is built from it.

There’s a very complex expression of Mercury at the time the conjunction is exact - moving through the yod with Pluto and Neptune out of his own sign of Virgo, into Leo and running straight into the square with Uranus… lots to think about!
All these images of self are part and parcel of the neo-liberal age, not good. I hope people listen to this. I say to people, take your place in life, which, like most others, I don't a lot of the time.

I wonder if people ask for power and sovereignty and are mistaking that for autonomy and the ability to not be reactive? I claim sovereignty as in “ I am a sovereign being” but i’m asking for dominion over my emotions, not over other people or situations.

@@Adam-Elenbaas I understand both power and sovereignty in spiritual and metaphysical terms as stiocism and self actulization. in one of my ceremonies wirh Aya, I turned in to a snake and felt very powerful (I can’t. explain it any other way) followed by a shadow voice telling me that it was a sin to feel that way and Aya stepped in and said “it’s a sin if you don’t feel this way. You dishonor your creator.” I was raised Catholic so feeling good at all can feel like a sin 😂 This was a particularly interesting video to me because of that experience and it’s something I have been wrestling with ever since. I often have to journal after your videos!
