There's a lot of tape on there. Usually I don't see that much tape on there. It must be close to 90 minutes. I looked up the album and calculated all of the track lengths and it comes out to 84:55. It's over 21 minutes per program. Thanks for the upload.
Hi, I saw the video and between the cat and your hand I don't see how you rewind the tape on the carridge support. I have a jammed ribbon. Opening the cartridge I noticed that a section of tape was raised above and caused the jam of the tape. I followed all your video but your hand covers the beginning of the rewinding and therefore I don't understand which side I have to wind if the end starts from below or above if clockwise or counterclockwise. If you can repeat it or give me instructions I am grateful. I thank you Riccardo from Italy.
hi i had to do this as well i moved the longer 8 tracks tape to nab cart tapes as they are better in there wear to roller in the tape i love the big C carts i have some a pimped background music player
It is really enjoyable to bring back some of those earlier years. I recently started repairing my own 8 tracks after purchasing a Akai reel to reel recorder which had an 8 track player build in. I have one question, Is there just one (1) aluminum foil strip in an 8 track cartridge or could there be more then one. Thanks, enjoy your video.
Hey Chris. @04:25 Whenever your cat gets in the way or tries to get in the way of your trying to repair that tape or any tape you haveyou may want to try to get that cat of yours to get down & get that cat of yours out of the way of your work. :) What do you think? :)
MK3424 I thought I read somewhere the 8 track tape might be coated with some kind of Silicon lube so it can make the turn out of the reel so regular tape might stick but it might be worth a try.
@@cttv90108 I know I'm a few years late, but I definitely know the tape's "slip backing" (what I've known it as) is graphite--same stuff used in pencils.
hi my mate has alot of quad one's i had to show him how to test them so the decks he got don't eat them in the akai decks never put the deck it ff in a akai before you checked the changer part use a low end deck just to send tape around the loop if the cart has a break the tape will be ok not 8 tracks get hit with alot of wear all the tape bodies with wear i move the tape out on to reels and bin the case put the tape in my akai 1800ss and kill the recording before this a use the fostex m80 to move over recording i check spotify first just in case it hard to find like quad recording are out of date with 5.1 incoding from stereo you don't need 4 channel any more
The cat absolutely makes this video

Yeah, prog rock and those long solos.
3:36 "Here we are 10 minutes later" .... DAMN!
Patience while repairing carts is the way to go. Really enjoy your videos Chris. Love to meet you.
Cool assistant!
I re-spool mine without a reel to reel, it would be difficult with a cat around.
Hey Chris. I totally agree with you on this statement about having the cat around. :)
That particular album looks like it has a LOT of tape on the reel. Probably a double record in LP format?
I love your supervisor. 🐱
@@owlnswan4016 he is a great cat Im glad to have him.

4:23 Aww 😄 that's cute.

La cinta del cartucho es igual a la del reel to reel??

Lucio Morales as far as I know only one aluminum strip, to advance the machine to the next program at the end of the tape.
Great Album
8 track tapes can be repaired
umajunkcollector I repaired a few back in the mid 90's when I was 15 and 16. Very tedious but it can be done.

But then.... i was wondering... could you just use regular 1/4 inch tape to create new 8 trackcassettes that can hold longer than 90 min. of music?
MK3424 I thought I read somewhere the 8 track tape might be coated with some kind of Silicon lube so it can make the turn out of the reel so regular tape might stick but it might be worth a try.
Nope. 8 track tape was specially lubricated compared to open reel tape. I've tried it before and the whole system is prone to binding.

before you checked the changer part use a low end deck just to send tape around the loop if the cart has a break the tape will be ok
not 8 tracks get hit with alot of wear
all the tape bodies with wear i move the tape out on to reels and bin the case put the tape in my akai 1800ss and kill the recording
before this a use the fostex m80 to move over recording i check spotify first just in case it hard to find like quad recording are out of date
with 5.1 incoding from stereo you don't need 4 channel any more
