I never played professionally, but there was times I thought about it and I’d go on these runs and make two or three grand over a handful of sessions, playing one too, and then the downswing would come and I’d lose like a grand over three or four sessions, and I just couldn’t handle it. Eventually, it was just like I always thought things were gonna go wrong. I just got in that downswing, and then you start chasing. I don’t think that’s what you’re doing, but when things are going wrong, it’s easy to compound them by chasing.
I used to tell my friends that thought I was good at poker. It’s a tough game because you can do everything right and lose and you can do everything wrong and win. Not that I played perfect or anything, but it’s just a tough game and a hard way to make an easy living.

I can't imagine going on a 2 month downswing. Playing poker for a living is brutal

    • @jeffshackleford3152

      @@KingofHeart-tw6dmlive is horrible like that.
It is super slow, and if you go card dead for a session it can be a wasted 8 or 10 hours.
I much prefer online, even though it is way more difficult, because you can play 100 hands per hour per table and can multi table.
Online makes any tiny leaks in your game magnified 10x and the player pool is much better, but I would rather grind than sit at a live poker table, freezing my nuts off and bored out of my mind.

Feeling that ending monologue. When the majority of the big pots are going the opposite direction - life is TOUGH. But that's the game. Volume cures variance. Good luck

Great Vlog Lex, but the check on the turn when you had the ladies would have given me all the info I needed to make that call when your oppenent bet 3k on the river. I understand how downswings makes us second guess alot of decisions on the felt. Keep your head up man you got this.

The QQ hand was an obvious bluff given the villain's betting patterns and would have called that $3k river bet in a heartbeat, when in doubt play your hole cards and not the scary looking board. The villain sensed weakness due to the turn card check, check and fired out a big on on the river and it worked so well.

On the last hand when the opponent bombed the river, my first thought was that your turn check back looked weak and maybe this guy saw an opening, but then I thought maybe he checked AT on the turn as a trap. This is why I don't play much poker anymore. I can't make the tough decisions with any confidence. Thanks for sharing the hard times too. Good luck this year.

You have to fire one more time with that pocket Queens on the turn to see if he has a flush draw or ace. I doubt anyone is checking top pair on the turn with the possible flush draw on the board or allow you to catch something higher. I bet if you weren't down, you probably would have fired another big bet.

  • @xinronggu3969
    @xinronggu3969 7 місяців тому

For that hand with Queens, I feel it's mostly a call. Hands with A will try to bet and get value on turn regardless if he's got a flush draw. With the flop, there are not many two pair hands he could have, and sets will mostly raise flop to deny equity for straight and flush draws. The most likely hand he had with his line of behavior was 89s, (if he got 89 of spades he would probably still raise you on flop). Aces and Kings will raise you preflop. So the big bet on river either means he had 3 hands of 89s, or any bluff hands that sensed your weakness on turn.

  • @marktito6169

That call with the K9 was AWESOME...I thought he had you for sure and I would have laid it down...That board was so connected...
I thought you were definitely were going to call with QQ, especially after the K9 call with the QQ board not as threatening.. Could have been a big session if not for that stupid QJ bad beat. All you can do is get it all in the middle with the lead....which you did.

QQ hand. Very tempting to look him up. He does not have a set or two pair, at least on the flop, as these hands would have kept betting with all the draws out there. It is possible he had an 89s kind of hand which just got there. But there are still a heap of busted flush draws. Could he be owning your soul with a hand like AJs, going for a nice thin value bet? Seems unlikely for that sizing.

Last hand feels like a fold , his check on turn doesn’t make much sense overall for his range combo draws probably bet most of the time on Ace turn and sets too . On the river it feels like AsXs hand that got some equity on the turn and slowed down . But live poker is so weird in such spots there is always the factor that they show up with some random hand and I really don’t know how we should factor that in our decision .

Lex man.. I'll never play at your level, I don't have the scratch/cheddar bank roll, but your playing a game that is up/down with Soul crushing moments like a Mortal Kombat game with FATALITIES... But that pk QQ hand lay down facing an aggressive dude that love to check raise you and put pressure on you, I think you allowed your post session results weight in on your decision making, if you weren't running bad as you stated you've been running, you'd probably snap call that or even thrown in that reraise yourself maybe. If this was a$2/5 games and playing it out the same, would you have still laid down pk QQ I'm that spot..

I think the QQ is a call.. not the easiest one but considering he could be blasting from doubling you up the last hand I'd put it in.
Also when he CR the flop and checks the turn he looks A LOT like KQ QJ with atleast 1 spade.. checks to try and realize equity on the river without getting blown off the hand. Only bad part about that is you block those off suit combos
The good part is you checking back the turn caps your range to basically what you had in a lot of players minds and gives him the green light to blast the river

Thought the last hand with Q's was misplayed. You have an overpair in a hand when you 3 bet the pot. What is going to just check raise you on a 10s 5d 7s board? A big draw most likely. If he has K's or A's you get 4 bet pre. 10's or 7's is possible but a large portion of the time a set(especially top set) just calls for deception. I would rather fold here than just call and give away a free card.

Hand made zero sense on the QJ bluff. He knew when you checked back you didn’t have an A and went for the home run. I put him on a big combo draw, J9S J8s or similar. 89s worst case getting there with the 6 on the river would be the only hand I was worried about, with the big river bet but that’s the only hand he’s repping that beats you, the rest are bluffs and you unblock spade bluffs. Calling there , not wanting to.

I agree with this comment. . Didn’t make sense. He gave up on the turn. Your check incentives him to go for the bluff on the river. With the spade flush missing and you not having a spade in your hand, combine that with the fact you stacked him earlier, I’d say this is a call. You can never be 100% but it all adds up in favor of calling in my opinion.

On the last hand...I thought villan could have KK, if not 2 pair +. I would have folded unless I had seen villan be bluffy or spewy.

I knew that guy was bluffing with the QJ hand. If he had a set or 2 pair he would have continued betting on the turn and if he some how hit the 13 percent Ace on the turn he would have bet smaller on the river for value. I put him on pocket 99 but either way you had him beat.

I don't think that was a bad beat. You actually got your money in bad on the flop and turn, with best case scenario being a chop.

That QJ hand was a real cooler. You know the 7 of spades really sucks. I always think why does it have to come two spades. Sorry Lex! You will bounce back.

QJo is certainly unfortunate but a fold pre would’ve probably been best. Keep it up

I totally agree, perhaps jam on turn to get the nut flush draw to fold...but all depends on the table dynamics and the players..🤔🤭

      Folding QQ?

folding QJo on BTN with 3 opponents in pre flop, would be overfolding. There is a position, two conected face cards, lot of money in the pot already. Yes, there is a 3!bet pot, and these type of hands don't do well in that situation. However, a 4!bet also is an option, but once he cold called a raise, and facing a 3!bet, with 2 other callers - that option might diminished.
It was a good opportunity to see the flop having good pot odds and in position against 3 opponents. The rest is the history.

@@pot_kivach160 not really even though you're getting pot odds to hit your cards even when you hit it you're in a dicey spot its going to be top pair weak kicker especially multi way and vs their bottom of range you have to hope they blast off to make any money.
