The Pan is my favorite by far. I had a 1952 FL. Same original wishbone frame, but Hydra-Glide front tubes. Same jockey shift/suicide clutch. Mine had the 3.5 gallon tanks. No bullshit at all, I racked up over 230k miles on "Janis" in about a 17 year run. Went through approximately 50-55 rear tires, at least a dozen top end rebuilds. The final trip was in 1999. Rode from Richmond Va. to Albequerque N.M. and not taking a single interstate there and back. I went to see the hot air balloon festival that October. A week after returning, I crashed her for the last time. 6 crashes in 17 years with 5 of them being minor is a great record for anyone. That last one did it in. The crash caused my left case to crack and couldn't be fixed without major machining. I wanted to keep my original VIN (52FL2272) so aftermarket cases were not an option. I gave it to a friend and she's still riding it to this day except for now it has Delkron cases. I then bought a 2007 Ultra Classic a few years later and I swear my Pan Head was just as comfortable to ride. Maybe, but I have my biases. I will say that your 1951 is very tight and brings back some good memories. I can't believe the exhaust ports are still intact. That slip on pipe joint is awful. I had a machinist weld Shovel Head exhaust ports welded on. Still the Shovel with only one bolt for attachment sucked too. Sorry for the novel but I get happy fingers when I write
Appreciate the story, and I fully agree with you on both the pan and shovel exhaust. They are both a pain in the ass it’s crazy it took Harley all those years to finally get it right. The knuckleheads are awful too
I Like em both ! I'm not a red fan but loved the 40 knuckle setup. I'm finishing up a 72 shovel chop currently then on to a 48 pan. Keep up the videos, love em !
Thank you, amazing you were able to do all this engine swapping, considering you were afflicted with the pandemic. You have a good artistic eye and I really like the way that Knucklehead looked. Bike looks cool with the Knucklehead but it looks right with the Panhead in the wishbone. Over the past 41 years, I went from a shovelhead to a knucklehead to Panhead back to a knucklehead with a magneto. Love them all. Form and function Harley got it right. Those engines are amazingly beautiful and with some proper care they run so sweet!

I was hurtin haha
Good work.
Thanks!!
Back in the day it was pan head with shovel head jugs
Dat was a long time ago
Love that setup, that’s what I originally had in this bike
@@lowkey58
Awesome set up for both bikes
The 38 frame is beautiful by itself
I have a 2013 sportster I wonder if someone makes top rockers covers pan knuckle or shovel for it lol.
Not sure, I bet you Google would know haha
Want to buy a knuckle (better sound, better quality overall) but are reallly expensive compared to the flathead. Panhead is too young for me😂
I hear that!
You went the right way pan to pan knuckle to knuckle. You sound like you're talking into a kids darth vader mask or something
It’s my new go pro, something is funky with the audio haha
