I love how every tts is normal and then there’s this one
14:29 - Microsoft Sam, voice of Nigel from the T&F series
9:39 Microsoft Sam And Microsoft Anna's Son
I'm impressed with how well the Chinese voices (and some of the others) are at speaking English when it is not their native language. I'd have liked to hear the other voices speaking their own languages though.
That's the Control Panel for you. Ever since Windows Vista, Microsoft dropped the unique input text feature for multiple languages, which is why they all tried to speak English. But for whatever reason, all of the Chinese voices have absolutely no problem speaking English. (With the exception of Microsoft Simplified Chinese, which spells words in English instead).
@@stephensaluphta5871 You can use your own judgement if you want, but the reasons why it is saying this is because (A) it adds entries to the Windows Registry that otherwise wouldn't be normal and patches certain dlls for compatibility under Windows 10, and (B) some of the programs are really old. If Windows Smartscreen appears saying the file may be dangerous, it doesn't mean all the time that it is potentially malware, but because it has an unsigned publisher.
@@winelectronic101 If you export this registry key on Windows XP: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Speech\Voices\Preview, then import it on your system, you can bring the multi language preview text feature back.

what is the most used text to speech voice
what was the one selection that sounded like it was mad?
How do you get microsoft elsa mobile italian italy? I am italian and I want to use that voice for my screen reader. How do you get it?
Microsoft Anna
impresiv
A lot of the voices from different languages a lot not all of them were in a bad quality and it was kinda weird.
Are these TTS voices are available on the Microsoft Edge browser? I have my Mac, but I might try to look for it.
These are text-to-speech voices for use specifically with Windows. Although I have heard from somewhere that Microsoft Aria (not on this video) is supposedly on Microsoft Edge, but that has yet to be confirmed.
2:28 Brutus’ Voice Sounds Like Mike!
I think my big struggle with the Microsoft voices is that no matter how updated and evolved they are, they have always had this weird raspy quality to them. Apple computers now have the vocalizer voices, which sound pretty natural even if you can’t speed them up. Does anyone know why the Microsoft text to speech voices have this quality? Like, I can understand why no one can use The as your voices, seeing as all of them are neural and Windows computers don’t have the technology to just use those, but even the mobile voices, which sound pretty good all things considered, still seem to have this dry throaty quality to them.
Actually, Aria, Jenny, and Guy are a part of Windows 11 v22H2, though only through Narrator as optional downloadable voices.
@@winelectronic101 Yeah, that’s what I heard! They don’t seem to show up for me though when I was trying to add voices. Maybe I need to update again, though everything seems to be up-to-date, so I wasn’t sure.
@@stephbrown4503 You don't change the voice through the speech settings. For whatever reason, Microsoft is moving away from the SAPI5 and OneCore engines and replacing them with a new engine that is strictly used by Azure voices. These voices are not cross compatible with SAPI5, due to the structure of the new API. You have to go into the Narrator settings to add "Natural" voices and then choose a new voice from the Narrator settings instead.
Microsoft betty and beverly sounded like mary talking like a man
Wow! Let us see if we can prove that they do talk like a man (like Microsoft Mary)...
What computer do you have?
How were you able to make all of the voice names appear on the speech control panel?
Through a lot of registry tweaking. I'm trying to work on creating an installer utility to find the files and download them from there, but for now, use the zip in the description. The reason I am looking into making an installer is because editing the registry can break Windows if you don't know what you're doing, and some people get alarmed when they see the .reg extension, so my intention is to create a setup and choose which voices to install and automatically add the registry entries, since they apparently don't break Windows and to make it easier for the average user to use them.
12:25 i found a billy's voice on ki us show
whoaaah THANKS A MILLION - at last, Catherine and James now appear on other TTS Software - it just needs registration keys!
how did you do this? just wondering..
It's not actually that difficult, the OneCore engine uses the same assets as SAPI5. Same is true for Speech Platform. The most difficult are the "Cortana" voices (which are still in Windows now despite Cortana being removed) because they aren't as transferrable and you have to manually create most of those keys yourself. Well, until now, that is.
i never knew microsoft sam vista was a real thing. i got ms anna on my old xp desktop, and while messing around with narrator, created the ms sam vista and ms anna xp voices, both were kinda glitchy. you heard both voices say "computer's" strangely. ms sam vista says many words correctly that ms sam xp mispronounces. just like ms anna xp mispronounces words that ms anna vista says right. ms sam and ms anna vista say pointer as "pointer", while their counterparts say "pwanter". ms sam xp in infamous for pronouncing "soi" as "SQAUGH", and his vista counterpart says it correctly. soy is mispronounced on both versions. i really though ms anna xp and ms sam vista were glitches as a result.
How did you get the voices that can’t be found?
If you're talking about the Cortana (Mobile) voices, the majority of those were registry files made in Notepad by scratch, since they apparently don't exist elsewhere in the registry, apart from the English Canada, US, and Australia ones. The "Vista" and "XP" suffix voices are basically just swapped lexicon engines from both Windows XP and Windows Vista, since Sam, Mike, Mary, Anna, and Lili's lexicons are all reversable. The "Betty", "Beverly", "Brutus", "Freddy", "Jack", and "Junior" voices are basically just Sam, Mike, and Mary pitch swapped, since it turns out the files that contain their pitch data are also reversable. With these, it is possible to force pitches lower and higher than achieved when reaching pitch values like -100 and 100.

To be honest, most of the non English speaking voices do't speak very well. The netherlands ones weren't very understandable. And I know that's not a glitch, that's just how they speak. I like Microsoft Elena.

@@winelectronic101 Whaaaat? Any history of the vocalizer voices. And if Ava was a male tts voice what would the name be? I wonder how Samantha got her popularity. As for Tom or Daniel, what was the history of him. I would like to know the history of the vocalizer voices.
@@winelectronic101 Do you think vocalizer voice Ava talks like a man sometimes?
@@mckensieparker6414 Vocalizer is actually owned by Nuance. Most of the voices in this group are voices bought out from either Loquendo or ScanSoft. Allison and Kate were originally Loquendo voices and Samantha, Tom, Daniel, Tessa, Moira, and Fiona were originally ScanSoft voices. ScanSoft is a division of Lernout and Hauspie. Lernout and Hauspie are the same company who created Michael and Michelle. Lernout and Hauspie went out of business on October 25, 2001 (same day as Windows XP was released) due to engaging in fraud. Michael and Michelle would then be licensed to Microsoft, while it's parent company, ScanSoft, was acquired by RealSpeak, which became acquired by Nuance sometime in the late 2000s and early 2010s.
