      Stutz is the really challenging one here, for my money. Snowaxe isn't that heavy, but if I can get down with the likes of Winterkat or Metalwolf, I can hang with Snowaxe!

    I shit you not, I was in Michigan for a show one time and we crashed at the supporting acts house. His father was the guitarist for STUTZ. I almost fainted, but not as much as the dude who was more wowed that I even know STUTZ hahaha

      I'm really not completely clear on why Stutz ever got noticed by metal dealers. I guess it kinda has that cool-private-press look to it, but so do a lot of disco albums from not a lot of years earlier. That's awesome that you ran into that guy though, hahaha.... My closest experience like that was when the Buried By Time and Dust label was starting out, and they were doing those first Witchfinder General albums, the dude had a small release party just for some of the metal guys he knew locally, and one of them was the singer from Max Lynx, hahaha. But almost everyone there knew who that band was, because we were pretty much all collectors....

    I bought that Mystery record after Jürgen mentioned it in a video a while back (at least I think it was him) and I haved really connected with it, maybe I didn’t really know what to make of it… the first track is really good… but I remember it as that vibe never really comes back around in the other songs.. but I’ll pull it out and review the thing

    They Only Come Out At Night is EW's best. I have to agree with Rich. It was Derringer that helped those records to sound so good. A co-worker was playing the new Lamb Of God album the other day. I have to admit. They are sounding pretty darn good. This may be their best album in years. I appreciate older bands who are still trying to write their best music. Always good to see you Aaron~

But even when I can't, I usually start listening to music around 5, so even if I hang it up to watch a movie or whatever at 9 or 10, that's a pretty big chunk of time right there. No secret, hahaha.

    Jeff Scott Soto (Panther) is one of my favorite 80's metal voices, total power but effortlessly listenable while never cheesy or screechy, he really elevates that record and everything else he did back then. A shame he never hooked up with a worthy band full time, but then again it's kinda cool to hear him with a bunch of different projects. Eclpse is cool, about ten years ago someone was selling a mystery test pressing on Ebay that was a source of excitement for a while until someone finally figured out it was the Eclpse album. Man, Stutz is SO bad, I bought it just because of the cover and what a shit sandwich. Both Trilogy albums are cool, same with Sword. Mystery actually has me on the fence, their weirdness factor makes it a real shock to discover they're actually German and not Italian or Greek but there's enough staid Teutonic metal orthodoxy to keep me at arms length. If someone digs up Mystery demos recorded in a moldy Black Forest bunker please sign me up. Have you heard the new Darkthrone album? They are really in the sweet spot in recent years for people like me who don't like corpsepaint and capes.

    • @MetalTheologian
      @MetalTheologian  5 місяців тому +1

      It's kinda funny that Darkthrone is almost a "legacy band" now, isn't it? Regarding Eclpse, that's another one I find myself liking a little bit more every time I play it, which is always a good quality in a record, even though I still wouldn't call it "great". Soto.... I don't know man, he's definitely a good singer, and I can't think of any albums he's been on that I've hated, but that kinda just puts him in league with Graham Bonnet!

    Love me some Edgar winter, but some of the later 70s stuff gets overly symphonic and kinda poppy. The E.W.'s White Trash is the stuff to go for. Great video, as always a lot of stuff I've never heard of.

    • @MetalTheologian
      @MetalTheologian  5 місяців тому

      You know, I didn't care much for that White Trash record I was talking about last time (I kinda soft pedaled it, since I wasn't in the mood for that kind of sound, but still), and the one here that I liked the least (for being symphonic and proggy, but not necessarily poppy) is the earliest. I'm not saying you're wrong, because I don't know his later 70s stuff, but it's an interesting comment to hear, since of the four I have, the two latest are the ones I've liked most. Thanks for the thoughts, and I always appreciate hearing from you!

    • @cliffordthevinylcheapskate351
      @cliffordthevinylcheapskate351 5 місяців тому

      @MetalTheologian that EWG on they only come out at night is the best one. Frankenstein is a scorcher. I'll admit I haven't listened to the proggy one you showed though. However I've listened to a couple that are later and it gets less hard rock and seems to be trying to keep up with some trends. I still perfer Edgar over Johnny Winter I think. Both talented but Johnny only really plays blues rock and it gets boring.

    • @MetalTheologian
      @MetalTheologian  5 місяців тому

      @@cliffordthevinylcheapskate351 Yeah, the one that piqued my interest was actually that 80s one, the concept album based on the L. Ron Hubbard books, because that's just such a batshit concept for an album, but what I actually heard off that record was pretty hard to stomach. I think we're on exactly the same page with regard to Johnny... I have one of his records, and I don't mind keeping it around, but I'm not exactly hungering for more.

    I was thinking about making a video showing the records I’ purging and the ones that stay. Quite frankly some of the great records are going and some that are staying are just good at best. I just don’t need to listen to Who’s Next anymore.

    • @MetalTheologian
      @MetalTheologian  5 місяців тому +1

      Yeah man, I was really confronted with that when I was pulling records for those two sales. Especially in the metal section, there's some god-awful shit that stayed on the shelf, and some great ones that went. But on the other hand, a pretty big part of that (especially outside of the metal section) is how easily I'll be able to find something again if I end up regretting it.

    I never bothered with that second Sword record, because I wasn’t that impressed by the first one, which was the highly touted one. But I’m gonna go check it out along with Mystery and the others, cause you’ve got interesting taste. I might even have to give Edgar Winter another try. I love Johnny, but classic rock radio playing Frankenstein to death kinda torpedoed Edgar for me.
    I should’ve mentioned this on the video where you showed Chastain, but I totally spaced it- Chastain and Mark Shelton had a project together in 1988 called Chastain/Shelton. I think there’s a vinyl release with their demos, I’ve not yet even UA-cam’d it. But I thought you’d like to know (unless you already know, in which case I’m being redundant and pedantic) Take it easy

    • @MetalTheologian
      @MetalTheologian  5 місяців тому

      No man, I didn't know about that Chastain/Shelton thing, thanks for the info! I would definitely recommend the Mystery over the Sword... the Sword record is really good, there's nothing to hate on it for, but Mystery is fuckin' unique. And regarding Edgar.... I certainly understand about classic rock radio, but I was more surprised to find I owned the record with Free Ride on it than anything having to do with Frankenstein, hahaha!
