Very inspiring as always. The last images against the snow are definitely award winners! I admire the fact you are prepared to brave the elements and cold in your quest to capture the essence of the place.
Good to have you back! I hadn't realized how much I value your videos until I had to go without them for a couple of months. I can't recall anything you've done that pleases my eyes as much as the last two images you showed here. Too often I see nice quality scenes being produced in the videos of the four or five photographers I regularly follow that are good work, nice subjects, and skillful postprocessing. The craftsmanship is unquestioned. Your two, however, are fine art photography -- cleaner, simpler, more disciplined and more evocative. I'm confident the edition will not last long. Regards.
Stunning images there Simon! Wow. Such a treat for you to have been there and photographed those spectacular sights. As for Meg - she is hilarious! Love watching her antics in your videos.
Good to see both you and Meg in fine form! Mate, that's a terrific collection of images: the pano at 4:05 and "Winter Sketch" (14:02) are especially appealing.
Good to see you back. Thanks for sharing your Scotland rambles (I've had Scotland/Skye on the brain lately--a new novel brewing). Some very delicate and lovely images captured here (I love that entling!). Your connection to these woodlands comes through in the final images you share. I'm not quite sure how that happens, but it does.
Glad to see you and Meg back again. Amazing images from your Scotland trip. That stick man image is incredible, the snowy scene tells the story perfectly 👍
Love the images Simon. Please do show us how you process the snow images as well as discuss your technique in the field to protect yourself, the camera and lens dealing with freezing temperature and diagonal snow.
Lovely break down of your photos. Though you specialise in woodland and trees, I find your comments and ideas to be some of the most thoughtful and applicable across for all outdoor photography subjects.
Lovely to see a video and to listen to the story behind the - again - fantastic photos. The trees in snow remind me of masterful Chinese ink drawings, which I love.
Great to see you back Simon. We've missed your videos, images, commentary and of course Meg. Truly inspiring images. Your passion, enjoyment and talent continue to flow through in all that you share. Love your book. A tremendous body of work, beautifully captured and presented.
Welcome back! You were missed -- by me, at least. I was hoping your absence was not health related. Glad to the issues were "minor". Looks like you 're sporting a new backpack.
@@SimonBaxterPhotography When I posted, I had only watched the first few minutes of the video. Now that I have watched the entire episode, I have a comment (actually sort of a rant) about your proposal to do an editing video. Because I edit with software that is not an Adobe product, one thing that bothers me is that people who produce editing videos tend to spend a lot of time describing the mechanical protocols necessary for a particular image adjustment in one particular product. Because many editing packages permit the same sort of adjustments (just via slightly different protocols, perhaps) I wish they would spend more time describing why a specific adjustment makes sense for the given image -- regardless of the mechanical protocols involved in the particular software of choice. It would be as if a photographer produced a video on the techniques for shooting a panorama, but spent a lot of time talking about the particular buttons that are applied in a Sony, or a Canon, or a Nikon. The way the camera is controlled may be slightly different depending on manufacturer, But the key point for a panorama is to use identical exposure settings and focus distance for each image and not how those characteristics are achieved in a particular camera model. That is what photographers do with respect to videos about in-camera shooting techniques. But for editing, they seem to concentrate on the mechanics of how a particular editing objective is achieved in a particular product.
@@douglashaag1127 I think you've jumped the gun a bit, Douglas. I'm far more interested in the why, the how is only there to serve the why. I never show techniques in isolation :-)
@@SimonBaxterPhotography That's great. If that's your approach, I clearly jumped the gun. I certainly didn't want to infer that I was complaining about how you describe your editing process with which I'm not familiar. Upon re-reading my post, I think it is clear that I was ranting about my issue with photography editing videos in general. Perhaps I have not been a subscriber to your channel long enough to be familiar with what you do in this regard. As you describe your approach, it sounds like just one more reason for you being one of only three or four photography channels to which I subscribe.
As with your other viewers I agree the pictures were stunning! I would be interested to see the post processing next November. It is mid April and we are cutting grass. Yes we had snow flurries this morning. So please wait until later to show how you process snow pictures. As always it was good to see you and Meg again.
You are right - those last snowy tree pictures are truly amazing. Funny how such harsh weather to experience makes such peaceful feeling images. Would love to see your editing process on them.
So good to see you again and hope you are well. Really loved the retrospective of the Scotland trip and descriptions of how you composed those amazing images. Winter Sketch is masterful and really fun to see something a little different and that excited you so much!
Glad to see you back. Enjoyed your video and the images were outstanding. Wish I was going to be in the UK for your exhibition but I won’t be arriving until late September. I’m sure it will be wonderful and a big success. I am also an admirer of one of your guest speakers, Mark Littlejohn. Regarding your question at the end of your video… I would be interested in seeing your post processing of the photos you mentioned.
Never really been into woodland / flora photography till stumbling across yours and Simon Booth's channels both of you have great narration skills and bring interesting content " to the table" so would like to say thank you for introducing me to this form of nature photography also would be very keen to learn about your post processing workflow. 👍
Great to see you and megan back simon, once again amazing images,i have a real habit of seeing other shapes in trees and trying to turn them into characters, 4:05.. am i the only one who can see the tree doing a streak in the foreground, running left to right with its arms in the air..? Please excuse me if its just my strange imagination. Great vid once again
love this Simon it would be great for you to do a print video, I sell my prints at a local craft market and sell A3 as my biggest print but people ask me if I could print bigger. Like you I have a A7riii and wondering how big I can go with the quality I remember your video about upgrading and that gave me heart that you have produced you fantastic images on a much lower resolution camera keep up good work nice to see you back on
Cheers Simon! It’s Sean in Atlanta! I’m guessing you were having back issues, am I right? You and I suffer from the same malady! That picture of the birch tree that is curved reminded me of my back problem which is scoliosis! I think King Richard III and I have a lot in common… Some of these images are absolutely breathtaking, Simon! My two favourites are probably the large majestic Scots pine! But as usual, all of your images are unbelievably beautiful and I’m happy that your book is doing well! I love my copy so thank you so much! Take care my friend and be careful of your back! Sean
Hi Sean! Not my back this time, but a combination of COVID and a couple of other things. All mostly under control now though :) Many thanks for your kind words :) Keep well!
You've paid homage to Scotland's beauty in winter so astonishingly, one could forget how uncomfortable the temperatures and unforgiving the winds. Absolutely stunning work.
Another wonderful video Simon and you have further solidified your place as one of the best landscape photographers out there and if we talk woodland photography...I'd say NOBODY is better! Your ability to see, interact, and capture a scene is simply second to none. And Meg sliding into the scene in the background is adorable. Take care my friend
Welcome back Simon and Meg. Wonderful images, superb compositional craft. I loved all the images ( the processing and texture on those first beech trees is lovely ) but the last two on the snowy moor are simply sublime . Processing video please!
Gosh those snowy scenes are incredibly beautiful and your right they really do look like pencil drawings. Really clever edit with the windy audio playing alongside those two particular images 👌🏻
Many thanks! I sound of the water was a little different as we could also hear the sound of icy snow being blown against things, but the howling wind set the mood nicely :)
Finally Simon . What a joy to see you and Meg in good health. And , most of all, beautiful images . I agree with you, the last three ones are outstanding ! Winter sketch above all !
Amazing photos as usual. Just wanted to comment on how you framed your head in the curve of the old tree behind you and how how you were sitting mimicked the the overall shape of the tree. That is attention to detail.
Good to see you and Meg again. I enjoyed the retrospective approach. There were some breath taking images which just reinforces the fact that you are a master at reading the trees and capturing what you see. Once again Meg had me laughing as she slid into the frame. Stay well and I look forward to the next foray into the woodlands.
Great to see you and Meg out and about in the woodland once again, Simon. I loved listening to your commentary on the images and, of course, seeing them. Beautiful images, especially the last two. Stay well.
Absolutely wonderful collection of images, Simon. It was an absolute treat to see these all with your excellent narration. I love those first, lichen-heavy images, really interesting how the immense scruff actually becomes comforting, like a homogenous woodland pillow. Also great to see you share the white balance and exposure values too, nice to see that part of your thought process as I view the images.
That was lovely, including fun with Meg. The images are beautiful. Yes please. I would love to see how you edited them. Your feature in Issue 279 of 'Outdoor Photography' is so interesting and the pictures are gorgeous. Guardians of the Forest is the most perfect cover image too.
Fantastic images once again Simon I'd definitely be interested in seeing how you process snowy scenes as I always struggle. I find if I process them as colour images they just look grey so nearly always process as mono. Hopefully you'll find time to release a video that explains your process
11:00 and 15:00! The snowy images do look like 'pencil sketches on a canvas of snow.' Just lovely...
Very inspiring as always. The last images against the snow are definitely award winners! I admire the fact you are prepared to brave the elements and cold in your quest to capture the essence of the place.
Thank you very much! We certainly needed a break to warm up but then back out again :)

Lovely to see a video and to listen to the story behind the - again - fantastic photos. The trees in snow remind me of masterful Chinese ink drawings, which I love.
Loved these images. One of the early shots reminds me of "Disfunctional Family". Glad your back with us.
Stunning images, Simon. 'Winter Sketch' may be my favourite, a beautiful scene so well observed. Very inspiring.
Thank you very much, Simon. I think that's my favourite too :)
The last images are stunning but also the 3rd image in this vlog is breathtaking. Master at work
Thank you very much, Kevin. 3 of my favourites too :)
Excellent images, and enjoy the way in which you describe each composition. Best wishes.. Alex.
Much appreciated as always, Alex :)
Yes I would love to see you make a video about editing these images, which, by the way, were fantastic! Thanks!
Fantastic images Simon & a nice touch with the sound effects!
Excellent photos! Thoroughly enjoyed your video, glad you are back from your break. Would love to see your editing of the snowy trees.
Very nice to watch your new episode ! And of course I share your happiness of those results.
Glad you're doing better again! Love the images!
Absolutely amazing images! So much atmosphere in them. Would love to see the editing process.

I'm pleased that you agree. Many thanks :)
Hi Simon ! Great video , beautiful photos !!!
Meg steals the show ... as usual 😁
As beautiful as the photos are, the narrative for each is just as interesting to help see what is there. Very enjoyable.

A unique video style. I enjoyed it very much.
