I love how we can go from riding a cute little hedgehog mount to running from a monster who wants to rip off our skin to use it as a coat or something. Gotta love the duality in European folklore.
Duality is the only thing that exists in 3rd dimensional reality.
If you love folktale
I also love mythology
I think a better term would be Juxtaposition. They make nightmare stories like these to make the happy ends much more sweeter and Stockholm syndrome inducing for children :p
nordic. nordic folklore
don't group us together
@@Thanadeez Cool, I got it. Calm down. I was afraid of getting something wrong.
I'm glad that Lemus, the Frog King, the dwarves and Tuva are Olle's friends that give him a ray of hope and help him during his journey. I have a feeling that Tuva is either a good spirit/ fairy or an elf of light.
I mean, I kinda figured that Tuva was the witch who gave the flower to the Mountain King, because she knows that Olle will find his sister there and that the light will guide him. Or at least that she had something to do with that story. Tuva only physically appears in a single scene in the game, yet she oddly has much relevance as one of Olle's supporters like Lemus, so it feels odd for Tuva to not be connected to other big plot threads like that.
Tuva is most likely based on the character ‘Tuvstarr’ from John Bauer’s paintings.
using the "In the hall of the mountain king" for the final boss music is just brilliant, and what a lovely game this is
A man of culture as wel :)
I kept saying, “I hope they play In the Hall of the Mountain King,” and when the music kicked in, I actually got choked up, it was so cool!
Fun fact:
The playwright for the play "Dolls House", Henrik Ibsen, hired a composer to create incidental music for scene transitions for one of his other plays. That composer wrote "In the hall of the mountain King" specifically for a production of one of Henrik's plays
@@TheRealBrandonMcDuff Yes, Edvard Grieg wrote that song for Ibsen's play "Per Gynt". The original name of the song is "I Dovregubbens hall"
Meh I liked how the game was headed at begining, where it felt as if you were just a weak boy trying to survive. The boss fights felt out of place and character
For those who are not familiar with Swedish folklore, Näcken literally translated to "The naked one."
In my country we even have Skogsrå and Älvor. However älvor are bot like the fairies like Tinkerbell från Peter Pan. They seduce people with their dance and appear in the mist and make them dance until death.
1:40:00 Absolutely heartbreaking. Amazing folklore immersive game, beauty, horror, heartwarming, and heartache all in one. Definitive props to the Creator's. ❤️

That was a good story and I'm happy they gave it a happy ending. Most of the time these sorts of stories don't have one.
That is why I like this game. But I wish the "cute" parts weren't included though. It should have kept all the grey/white/dreary colors from the demo. They should have cut out the bright green colors and the gnomes and added some more scary chapters.
@@nogoodnameleft No, you do to much of stuff like that and it just becomes exhausting to play or watch, kinda like Fallout 3's endless green filter vs Fallout NV great variety of colours. It's a pretty common tactic in horror games as a whole really insert any classic here. You have to give the player moments to relax and calm down. Being always on edge is not good for gameplay retention.
Don't think of them as 'cute' sections, think of them as 'safe room' sections. As that is their purpose.
@@nogoodnameleft yeh nah, the cute gnomes and nice characters make it more impactful when all the horror elements come in and you see cute characters get killed. Plus what poster before me said about a respite from the horror.
God, the room with the clock was so aggravating. Thank you.
@@nogoodnameleft hell no
Oh my god, this has been an absolute pleassure to witness. A big thanks to developers and the team, and a huge thanks to Shirrako for making it available to me! I am Norwegian and i could name all the mythic monsters the moment i saw them, they really hit the nail on the head with this one!
name all the monsters then
Would have been nice if you gave the developers some money with your purchase to thank them, I don't think UA-cam thankyou comments are worth 10 cents to them and their families.
What's the name of the small flower/children?
@@mmmmmmmmmmm10 nah. Because we’ve all done the same thing.
Check out "through the woods", another Norwegian folklore game created by Norwegians.
When I heard the baby's cry and I saw Olle burying him later I cried, I swear 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Just finished playing this game-what an incredible experience! Stunning visuals, attention to detail, and a beautiful soundtrack that adds emotion to gameplay. Special shoutout to the captivating ambience music that immerses you in the game world and sets the perfect tone. The story kept me hooked with its twists and turns, and the scary elements gave me heart-pounding moments. It's a true masterpiece with breathtaking visuals, enchanting soundtrack, immersive ambience, engaging story, and thrilling moments. A must-play for gaming fans. Trust me, you won't be disappointed! 🌟🎮
Nothing pleases a Norwegian more than to witness the Norwegian culture/story outside of Norway 😇
As a swede, all the cultural things they’ve added is amazing!
Those who made the game are literally Swedes themselves💀
@@Iluvvv_1 The fact that they literally play Den blomstertid nu kommer at 1:53. xD
@@hajkie I asked my Swedish mom if she knew that song-- turns out it was played at my parents wedding lol
You don't need to be a triple A studio with a triple A budget to create such a wonderful game. I'm glad these smaller games are resurfacing and giving us such good games, they've been absent for so long.
This was so good everything revealed itself perfectly and the story was not confusing at all.
Just a note guys. The game is about 6-10hrs on first playthrough (not 3hrs like the video). The poster is cutting out all his deaths (and you will die a lot in this game from clunky controls and lack of direction) so you only see his last and best run of a section. So 10 minutes realtime is more like 3-5 minutes in this video.
Evidence of cuts at 1:46:07 after the cutscene ends, listen and its obvious. This boss killed me about 10 times across the 3 phases. Its very hard to see and confusing until you learn her patterns.
Its a audibly and visually beautiful game and well worth the money if you have a decent income and $30 for 6-10hrs is ok with you. If not, wait for sale or gamepass.
100% NOT 10 hours. I’m 75% through and I’m 4-5 hours at the very most.
it took me 4 hours to finish it, i only died at some bosses a couple times.
4.5 hours to finish. Wish it was 10 hours. Best game I've ever played.
It was like almost 4 hours for me.
It’s true that you may die various times due to the controls and learnings some patterns lol.
Bro it’s not 10 hours😂
That subtle shot at 2:03:13, when we see Pesta way in the background....
Moral of the story, stay home 😭😂
A Little Nightmares game but with mythical creatures is honestly a pretty cool idea. I’m very impressed with this game’s bosses, puzzles, and other things. I was not expecting "Hall of the Mountain King" to play in the final boss, that was a surprise.
50:30 this part was perfect and beautiful with the music 🎼
if "in the hall of the mountain king" didn't play in this game i would have been so upset, glad they were kind enough to put it in

Good story, we don't get to know the characters but it works through the narration and art, reminds me of books I read in childhood.
I think that the fact that we don't get to know the characters is a reference to real-life fairy tales and folklore. Because in a lot of classic tales, we don't get told much about the characters either (I.e., Little Red Riding Hood, Prince Charming, the witch from Sleeping Beauty, etc). It's a lot more about the direct story being told and the order of major events. Olle and the Mountain King getting as much development as they do is actually pretty surprising, when you consider it all.
@@mrreyes5004 yep.
Thinking thats the actual zen of the game, the juice....
Thanks for uploading this, if I heard "Bro", "Cap", and "oh my god" one more time from these streamers, I would have thrown a fit.
At approx. 2:03:10 you can see Pesta in the background watching you before her boss encounter. Thanks again for the upload, you rock!
Am I the only one who want the whole book of this. I mean, the whole story of it in a BOOK. This story is awesome!
In the Hall of the Mountain King was such a great choice for the boss music
To fit the vibe of the fight and seeing the mountain king himself
True but to those of us of a certain age that piece of music will always be a different game - Manic Miner.
The sister was so irresponsible for taking her younger brother deeper into the forest!
This is one of the best games I've ever played.
I really enjoyed every single moment of this folklore game. The gameplay was creatively made and the camera position is just wonderful. Lemus is sth else 😂
it's Scaryer then Little Nightmares
1:46:02 you know someone was real busy creating this boss
She is my favorite, I love the song and her laugh and whispers
Bro that boss is gonna make this fandom thirsty, on a trailer with her in it everyone in the comments kept saying “can she step on me?” 💀
I love this game as I love our folklore and stories. Very well done:) this has been a real adventure into our culture
Wait why guilt for the shape shifting demon? She lured men out into the forest and murdered them. Yeah what the village did in response was terrible, but that doesn't redeem the demon that was already killing them.
love how the mountain king's attacks are in time with the song
This game started beautiful and got dark quick. 😮
Reminds me of Little Nightmares series (Chasing Huge monsters) and Tomb Raider Series (Climbing Walls). Overall great game!
THE BOSS FIGHT SYNCS UP WITH MUSIC? That’s cool as fuck
Im from Nordic country so gonna play this for sure. Without gamepass I would never have figure out that this game even exist...
You could power a city with the chills I got when Lemus showed up at the end. That's a real bro right there.
1:01:04 when her head snaps around, my heart jumped.
It’s actually a he, he’s called nacken (or Nokken in folklore)
I want more folklore in horror games this game was awesome
What a great story! C: Thanks for uploading it for everyone to watch.
This is exactly how my parents tell me they used to go to school
Wow! A little nightmare-esque game got a happy ending
The very last scene...I cant stop crying!
im crying bc of the troll ;-;
Nah that ritual thing was the scariest of it all. Hit me right in the gut when he buries that baby. Some sick stuff that goes on in this world
They made him so adorable ❤
Edit: OHMYGOD HE WERNT THROUGH SO MUCH! WHAT THE HELL!
beautiful game, so nice to see and hear the music and the scenery is amazing. best game i played in a long time
I see references from Witch Trials (King Nils Lore), Myling (midwife killing babies in swamp) and Black Death (Pesta/Mor der kommer en kjerring)
Cried at the end of simply watching this video. The music is incredible.
Anybody remembers the old "Gretel and Hansel" game ? A very similar game in terms of story, characters and feeling. They're unique and have a memorable main theme.
It's been 10 years, and I'm still waiting for the third one :')
@@Nononochi how nice! I am not the only one ✨️
This was such a nice game and story, i dont normally comment on gameplays but this one got me
When they were doing the pesta fight, I laughed when Pesta did the "nahm nahm nahm" thing 😭
This is like little nightmares ... Love it
Which is why I loved the game 🎮 😅
Oh my goodness, fighting the King was so frustrating for me cuz he kept bashing his weapons together and I wasn’t sure how to stop that so I just had to keep restarting, glad I found this vid👍
Good game and story. Is like a fairy tails. All the time in the video. Thanks for the walkthrough. 😊
This game was fantastic glad it’s in my collection 😊
Me to ❤🥰
This game amazing deff worth thr price!!! I hope people buy it to show the studio we want more!!!
We gotta give our full support to indie developers who make games like this 😊
This was one of my favorite games of the year and probably one of my favorite indie games ever. Bramble and Little Nightmares are definitely in my top 5.
This is like something straight from the minds of the brothers Grimm.
All the Bosses are AMAZING.
So I watch no commentary playthrough at night because they help me go to bed and and I woke up to the whispering voice at 1hr and 27 minutes lol I thought I died and ended up in hell.
Such a nice game, I love the end so much it's perfect
I’ve always wanted to make a dnd quest centred around a giant sealed within a colossal mountain. Time to plagiarise.
at 1:55 the wind is blowing in two opposite directions simultaneously
Finally this game came out!!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
50:30 the usage of this song is pure art
I never would've gotten past that clock puzzle. It was so hard to see the numbers, especially in the goblet. Thanks!
Playing this now. It's such a fantastic game. They need to make a movie of this
I also don't get how Falling through ancient ruins while holding a Stone made out of light Can shrink you down to the size where you're able to interact with both gnomes and other Faye Creatures alike and trolls that I'm guessing are the size of a fully grown adult Or bigger are now like Godzilla And You can safely assume the new proportions of mystical creatures and animals alike Because mushrooms that you'd usually be able to replace your fingers with in account of size Are now trees and trees are now mountains.
That ending theme, I thought that famous song would be perfect considering its title.
wait, why did the storyteller said Olle regrets killing the shapeshifter? i dont get it. Doesnt it killed people?
it was an act of brutality
1:00 Oh thank God, I would have never known that Final Fantasy III would be ready to play.
This is basically “Taken” starring a Nordic Liam Neeson who proceeds to murder any legendary nordic creatures who stands in his way.
The best indie horror game in 2023❤

One of the best game I’ve ever played the music the environment the story every was just so good now I want a second part of this game
You know, I don't think I've ever seen media based entirely on European (particularly Germanic) culture and folklore.
This is very different and interesting.
You haven't seen Lord of the Rings?
That witch from the lake..was she wearing clothes from Alice's Nightmare?
Midwife’s outfit. Looks similar though, doesn’t it?

How blessed we are to get to fight the Mountain King to the sound of The Halls of the Mountain King!
Being Norwegian and seeing how the folklore is put in this game is really interesting
Lemus is the best boi!
The funny thing is that this entire thing could’ve been avoided if they had just returned after after the first time he found his sister
It reminds me a lot of PlayDead's Inside and Limbo. Such a cool game to watch. It went from happy to literally horrifying.
A few parts were frustrating but overall such a great game!!
56:23 😭 music hit like a rock
All the Wookies at festivals getting LIT.
I hope youtube doesnt demonitize you for the hangings and the dead baby, lol. Great gameplay!!!!!
that was a reasonably hard game. especially the King Nils final fight and Skogrsa third battle.
This game is so awesome ! I remember when I first heard of it , I was hoping it was coming to consoles ! 🙌
Omg the little gnomes are too precious!
Some of these boss battles seriously take the piss
The music in the final boss is the mountain king!! XD
