Robert Forster died the exact day this was released, and for a long while Vince Gilligan thought he hadn't been able to see the finished film. Then he went on a podcast with Adrian Paul one day and Paul casually mentioned Forster calling him to say how much he had liked what he saw. Turns out he'd seen it just a few hours before he died and called Paul talk about it. Dude held on just long enough.
You never would have known how close to death he was with the quality of his strong performance. Robert Forster is a severely underrated actor! He definitely went out on a high note!
I love to hear that Adrian Paul was friends with Robert Forster. Just two actors who never became movie stars, sometimes had to take jobs to put food on the table, still went out and made good art. I can imagine that was a special friendship.
I like how this movie shows how much Jesse has learned from all of his "mentors" from the show, how he is using all their methods combined. He can talk his way out of being captured and tied kinda like Saul would, he guns down his opponents like Mike, he threatens the guys he took drivers license from and scares them into silence like Gus would, and finally he makes an improvised explosive to get rid of the crime scene altogether, something Walt would come up with.
it still makes no sense to me that he didn't shoot todd in the middle of nowhere whem he had the chance, only to try to later escape under much tougher conditions, getting caughr and getting his gf killed. i think it's just bad writing. at that point anyone in his situation would kill him then immediately contact his gf and tell her she has to take her son and leave the state asap. he'd have to know he'd never get an opportunity that good again, no way would he pass on it like that. honestly they should have left that whole section out of the movie and just showed the 2 of them together while jesse was locked up.
The first few times I watched S5, I really hated Todd. As a character, he's a bit "not there", but I understand his logic and thought process. He's grown on me a bit
@@reynaldolorenzo8409 pfff, yeah tough choice. Season 1, like most great programmes, are special as they're the first of their kind and that offers something unique sequels can't recapture. But the acting in the 2nd one was top notch, and led to a marriage 😅 Did you enjoy 5?

Vince Gilligan is a big fan of Spaghetti Westerns, and they were a big influence on the Breaking Bad universe. El Camino finally gave him a chance to put a Western-style pistol duel into the storyline.
6:05 This scene with Skinny Pete and Jesse always got me, from Skinny Pete's perspective Jesse was always that friend who dipped in and out of his life, although this time it was different. This time Jesse was running away to Alaska and Skinny Pete had no idea this was the last time he would ever see Jesse again, they also never got told where Jesse was going so he could never go looking for him. Considering Jesse had a new identity to protect I think its safe to say he never returned to New Mexico or contacted old connections. He literally never saw Skinny Pete or Badger again. I don't know why it just gets me, maybe it's because from past experiences Skinny Pete is probably expecting Jesse to show up again like old times, but bro literally grew old never seeing his hero/friend again, never knowing if he made it or died trying. That's deep.
I think what makes Todd so strangely unsettling is that he's actually a really nice dude, just without ANY empathy whatsoever. He's polite, does the occasional nice thing, etc. But without that normal boundary of empathy, something like murder or torture is a total non-issue at the same time. Usually the psychopathic bad-guy is written to enjoy causing torment, whereas Todd has no emotion whatsoever attached to his evil deeds.
He plays out like some NPC companion... Reacting in a very predictable way with no emotional investment, and occasionally going nuts because of his 'programming', killing people then going right back to 'idle npc' mode.
I rewatched BB again and noticed (this is probably well known and obvious but I never noticed) and Jesse says "Nobody can ever know about the train robbery, no one." So Jesse, in a way, is to blame for Todd's actions
@@TheReelStuff not really though because Todd then went and told Jack and the whole crew about the train robbery at that diner so he doesn’t actually care if anyone knows
I like how the film frames Jesse in the car. He roars like a wild animal in the beginning and emotions just pour out of him, and by the end he drives the car with complete calm and utter serenity.
The fact that there are so many missed shots during that final shootout just makes it one of the more accurate gunfights these two have likely seen on the channel.
El Camino is the car name but it's also Spanish for "the path" or "way" People say it means "road" but it's not that literal, it refers more to the manner (i.e., "this is the way" from The Mandalorian) than the literal means (i.e., a physical road or path). It's more about his growth than the car. Yes, the car and title literally refer to his way out, both in his initial escape from the compound and from the life we saw him trapped in for so long. It's his way out -- but note the huge difference in character now, even from the end of S5. He's confident, assertive, won't be gaslit or intimidated, and now fully committed to his own wellbeing and self-worth. He didn't escape just because he had the car. He escaped because he was finally able to know what to do and how to be once free. Previously he'd always been able to be talked down, took "just one more hit," could doubt himself, or controlled. Jeese has escaped the cage he carried within himself just as much as the physical cage. That is the true "way" of the title and what the car's name lends itself to. (Likewise, think of how it and such cars are marketed -- that having it will make you cool and confident.) But he doesn't keep the car -- further showing the way is what's within him now more than the car itself.
Sort of like how 'Jihad' has gotten a warped translation, it literally means holy war, but the meaning of holy war itself in Islam more means a struggle you go through for and in service of your faith. They would say Jesus being crucified is an example of Jesus' personal Jihad. Ramadan and the praying and fasting required is a prime example of a Jihad. It's a struggle to comply with, BUT that struggle is what improves you. You just gave up eating for 30 days and prayed on it 5x a day every day, you made it through that, this new challenge you face is nothing, you've been through worse.

I started watching Breaking Bad just before Season 5 aired because I was taking chemistry in college at the time. All I wanted was for Jesse and Walt to end in a satisfying father-son-like relationship by the end of Walt's life. Walt entered total villain mode in Season 5 though, but he still managed some redemption by saving Jesse. And I was really satisfied by Jesse's journey to the quiet new life that he always wanted in this movie. He is definitely going to be a woodworker!
Jesse is to Skinny and Badger what Walt is to Jesse. I guess he did less damage, but he still f---ed their lives up quite a bit and got Combo killed. He went along with Walt on that, he has ownership in it, before someone says Walt is the reason. Jesse didn't put his foot down and say "Absolutely not going to put my friends out on the street in someone else's territory!" He also left Badger out in the middle of the desert. lol He could have f---ing died, man!

Jesse Plemons (Todd) portrayel of a psychopath is so good in this and Breaking Bad. The only one time that I have seen somebody do it better, is probably Jake Gyllenhaal in "Nightcrawler"
Charles Baker (who plays Skinny Pete) is a bit of a chameleon as an actor. He showed up a bit in the first season of The Blacklist (and was in the very first scene of the show) and I didn't recognize him until someone pointed it out to me.
Yeah, El Camino means "the path". This movie is Jesse's path to freedom, both from his past and his current circumstances. Many cities in the US desert Southwest feature street names that start with El Camino...
If you guys haven't seen the show Fargo.. I highly recommend it. Jesse Plemons is in season 2. Does a great job in that too. The whole cast does, which is a great cast.
I work at a screen printing shop and we printed those wind breakers for the show. We have done orders for Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul as well. We even printed the Black Sabbath shirt Tony Stark was wearing in the Avengers. It was cool to see this movie and find out how the windbreakers were used in the show. Gotta say I didn't see it coming.
I can remember watching a teaser for this which was just Skinny Pete talking to cops. Even during the teaser, you had no idea what it was for until he says, and I'm paraphrasing: "I have no idea where Jesse Pinkman is..." That bit got a huge pop out of me.
Please watch Better Call Saul, it's at least as good as BB. If Jesse hadn't had his chance meeting with Walt in the two years that followed he would have likely been jailed or killed. Were you not paying attention in BB to the fate of those who jump on the back of the meth tiger? Yes Jesse successfully fled to Alaska but so has Dexter Morgan, with time on his hands to kill. With that state's population being only 750,00 people, it's inevitable these two alpha wolves will cross each others path. An amazing episode 64 would show which of them would end up on the kill table!
Great review, long-term channel follower. My father once said: One should always have some cash set aside for a rainy day. It doesn't matter if one have crazy money in the Bank, if the computers are down or a long-term power outage it means nothing. 🤓
I still think it's so cool that Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul did well enough to greenlight a whole movie that's just an epilogue for the supporting character of BB. It feels entirely for the fans and to do justice to the character of Jesse rather than a soulless cash grab. I look forward to seeing you react to Better Call Saul. It's just as good as Breaking Bad. 2 10/10 shows imo.
There was a commercial for this show that was Skinny Pete talking to the police, and explaining that he would not contribute towards putting Jesse in a cell again.
The first "cop" Jesse pointed the gun at in Todd's apartment was in The Last of Us. Not sure if you've seen it, it's not on your UA-cam, but maybe you did Patreon? He plays a pastor.
I think this raises an interesting question: is Jesse better off now than if he never met Walter White? Personally, I think he would’ve been killed by Crazy-8 or Tuco, jailed, or finally OD’d on his own supply if it wasn’t for Walt. He may be a fugitive now, but he’s grown so much in ways normal people never will.
Remember we meet him as his lab is being raided. And crazy 8 and Emilio think he's a rat since he wasn't arrested. If he didn't have walts super crystal there's a good bet he dies right there.
I mean that is the question, would it have been better if he had died then because he wouldn’t have become a murderer, watched 2 women he love die, one shot in front of him, one OD beside him, be tortured, beaten by Hank, interrogated, kept in a cell not to mention all the stuff with Gus, Brock and Mike only to end up in Alaska alone.
@@KrystalAnn0688 Agreed! but it's also longer, so a bit more work for whomever edits for YT so we'll see. I would join the patreon to suggest it if I had the funds. sadly I do not. lol
Alright alright let me grab my hummus and pita and let's do this. It's so great that they made this epilogue. If anyone deserved to start over after the shitshow of Breaking Bad, it was Jesse. Also, Better Call Saul is both a prequel and sequel and the sequel parts take place after El Camino.
Time works so oddly especially when you age up. Felina, the finale of BrBa happened to me what seems like just a few years ago. I know when it happened. I can do simple subtraction. Logically, factually I know when that happened, but experientially in my noggin that was just a years ago. It's a bit spooky. The older you get the more time feels like it is compressed. In my head, not checking the calendar, that was, like, about four or five years ago give or take. It was 11 years ago. Mad Men, same deal.
Often overlooked detail: The money Skinny Pete and Badger gave to Jesse is the same money Walter paid them for being "the best hitmen on the west side of the Mississippi"
actually, "El camino" is a Spanish phrase that translates to "the road" in English. It can have multiple meanings, including: El Camino Real A Spanish phrase that translates to "The King's Road" or "The Royal Road". It was California's first highway, stretching over 600 miles from San Diego to Sonoma. The road connected 21 Franciscan missions, which were founded by Spanish Franciscan priest Fray Junipero Serra. Camino de Santiago A trail in Spain that follows ancient tracks and ends at the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela. The name translates to "The Way of Saint James" in English. El Camino car A Chevrolet coupé utility car introduced in 1959. The name translates to "the way" or the road/journey. En el camino A Spanish phrase that translates to "on the way", "on the road", "along the way", or "down the road" in English.
I think it would have been better if jesse had been searching for walt's millions and would of had ghost Walt helping him(like in "Dexter" with his father)
I felt like this movie wasnt really needed but it was very good to watch imo but watching this was very slow in the beginning but in the middle and end was great. Man breaking bad was fun
pretty sure when jesse had the chance to kill todd it was while his gf was still alive, so it makes no sense that he wouldn't kill todd right there. he passed on that perfect opportunity only to later try to escape under much worse conditions, which got his gf killed. had he killed todd when he had the chance he would have had plenty of time to warn his gf to take her son and leave the state asap.
The Breaking Bad universe is a masterpiece. Seeing Jesse, molded by Walter, Mike, Saul and Gustavo, nearly brutalized to death and then come into his own and finally escape, is one of the most satisfying endings, ever.

Charles Baker (who plays Skinny Pete) is a bit of a chameleon as an actor. He showed up a bit in the first season of The Blacklist (and was in the very first scene of the show) and I didn't recognize him until someone pointed it out to me.
As said, months ago, when you first started this journey... you will fall in love with Jessie. It's the rules.
Yeah, El Camino means "the path". This movie is Jesse's path to freedom, both from his past and his current circumstances. Many cities in the US desert Southwest feature street names that start with El Camino...
i’ve planted a couple trees myself ;)
If you guys haven't seen the show Fargo.. I highly recommend it. Jesse Plemons is in season 2. Does a great job in that too. The whole cast does, which is a great cast.
You guys should check out the deleted scenes. They had the cops showing up to Skinny Pete's, and I wish they'd kept it in.
13.34 - George you are the best. Every time you drop an obscure Simpsons reference you make me smile. Joey Jojo Shabadoo!
Keep the escorts' bodyguard in mind when you watch BCS
The great state of New Braska😂
I watched this by myself, motivated by watching BB again. I'm enjoying it more watching with you guys.
You should check out "Mr Inbetween", an underrated australian TV series.
10:37 Todd doing the hand signal for the truck driver to honk wasn't in the script. Jesse Plemons just did that 1 take and they kept it
This is how you do a proper spinoff.
Even during the teaser, you had no idea what it was for until he says, and I'm paraphrasing: "I have no idea where Jesse Pinkman is..."
That bit got a huge pop out of me.
We need a compilation of Simone's intros
Great movie. Vince Gilligan is a genius!
In my opinion, BB + EC + BCS is the best TV trilogy ever created.
There was a commercial for this show that was Skinny Pete talking to the police, and explaining that he would not contribute towards putting Jesse in a cell again.
Jesse was the best character of the show... And considering its one of the greatest shows of all time.
26:41 Walters (Bryan) wearing a bald cap here
If you haven't done it yet, do Tarrentino's "Jackie Brown"... Forester plays a major character and you'll just enjoy it regardless.
Jesse Plemons and Matt Damon have even the same synchronous voice ,in German
SICK! Thanks guys!
Hey George, can i borrow a feeling?
Hahahahaha can i borrow a feeling
"Dude, you're my hero and shit."
Todd has a tarantula. As a motif, perfect!
Or become a middle age meth cook teaching high school drops out how to buy the raw materials and cook meth.
In that alternative story he probably would have been a victim of Heisenberg (aka the supporting character known as Walt's PRIDE)
I don't know what the next series will be but I hope it's either Sons of Anarchy, Peaky Blinders or just for a spot of comedy, Derry Girls
Sons would be amazing!
I was in college 1st year when el camino came out
Did u graduate?
@@B0bCat11 i did
@@hkaayaakuu congratulations that kicks a lot of ass
Tell me about it
Time works so oddly especially when you age up.
Dexter could have learned a lot from the last season of BB and this nice extra story.
My problem with calling it El Camino is that I kept getting it confused with Gran Torino.
How can you not love Saint Todd, bringer of Ben and Jerry's?
10:37 Jesse Plemons improvised the truck-honking motion. It really is in character with Todds (psychopathic) child like behavior.
Often overlooked detail: The money Skinny Pete and Badger gave to Jesse is the same money Walter paid them for being "the best hitmen on the west side of the Mississippi"
El Camino translates to 'the road' so the title also signifies the path that Jesse takes after Breaking Bad
Jesse also drives out in a 1981 Chevrolet El Camino, Todd's car
@@TheReelStuffI know but they said that the car itself wasn't that significant to the story
The way. El Camino means "the way" 🤦🏻♂️
actually, "El camino" is a Spanish phrase that translates to "the road" in English. It can have multiple meanings, including:
El Camino Real
A Spanish phrase that translates to "The King's Road" or "The Royal Road". It was California's first highway, stretching over 600 miles from San Diego to Sonoma. The road connected 21 Franciscan missions, which were founded by Spanish Franciscan priest Fray Junipero Serra.
Camino de Santiago
A trail in Spain that follows ancient tracks and ends at the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela. The name translates to "The Way of Saint James" in English.
El Camino car
A Chevrolet coupé utility car introduced in 1959. The name translates to "the way" or the road/journey.
En el camino
A Spanish phrase that translates to "on the way", "on the road", "along the way", or "down the road" in English.
@@Fantomex. Way, road and path are all synonyms in English
Simone kinda looks like Avril lavigne
You guys have to do baytown outlaws next it's a great movie that more people need to see
I think it would have been better if jesse had been searching for walt's millions and would of had ghost Walt helping him(like in "Dexter" with his father)
There's a trailer for this that's just a scene not in the movie, and it's more Skinny Pete
I felt like this movie wasnt really needed but it was very good to watch imo but watching this was very slow in the beginning but in the middle and end was great. Man breaking bad was fun
That big bodyguard doesn't look so tough!!!
pretty sure when jesse had the chance to kill todd it was while his gf was still alive, so it makes no sense that he wouldn't kill todd right there. he passed on that perfect opportunity only to later try to escape under much worse conditions, which got his gf killed. had he killed todd when he had the chance he would have had plenty of time to warn his gf to take her son and leave the state asap.
I get why people don't like this movie, it's not an amazing movie but it's great closure to his character.
The Breaking Bad universe is a masterpiece. Seeing Jesse, molded by Walter, Mike, Saul and Gustavo, nearly brutalized to death and then come into his own and finally escape, is one of the most satisfying endings, ever.
The conversation at 10:47 about digging holes and burying bodies reminded me of Liam Neeson's movie In the Land of Saints and Sinners. Definitely worth seeing. It's the kind of action movie that suits Neeson way more.
Awesome!
Have you guys done Jackie Brown? Robert Foster is a main character in it.
Will the Better Call Saul reactions be going up on UA-cam at any point in the future? 🤔😄
Skinny Pete and Badger are Good Will Hunting level of friends.
For the love of everything holy, watch Better Call Saul. Is even better than Breaking Bad
Loved better call Saul. It’s a stretch to say better than breaking bad. Written better, but as a whole and what breaking bad did.. very hard to beat considering it’s the consensus top rated tv show of all time.
@@jrod1591 The way I see it BCS is the Terminator 2 to BB’s Terminator.
@@jip5889 I see what you’re saying but it’s definitely not as intense.. I would say that it’s more like bcs is “monsters university,” to bb’s “monsters inc.”
I like monsters university more, but the originals had to jog so their prequels can run.
I think we can all say… Gilligan is a monster writer and producer. He created an amazing universe.
@@jip5889 your analogy was great but I’m an early 90s kid so terminator 2 was was like the original to me. Haha
@@jrod1591 yeah yeah I understand. BCS would not be so great without BB of course. But we could agree it’s the perfect sequel.
Yo that Kirk shirt is 🔥
I'm selling everything and going all in on Tupperware stock.
It’s worth watching the trailer for this. It’s a full scene that is not in the movie.
Bravo.
Bcs takes place in multiple timelines
You should always have some cash for SHTF things. Small bills etc.
You really should watch Better Call Saul !
