      Hi Jan! Thanks for watching my video - and for the kind words!

    What would it mean if every note is fine except clarion D/chalameau G? Clarion C/chalameau F, clarion B/chalameau E, and every note from clarion E/chalameau A on up is doable, but as soon as I hit D/G, it pops down to chalameau G. If I skip from E to C, it works fine.

      In my experience, that is a normal point at which the "challenge" begins. If I am processing this right - things are good from (chalumeau (open) G down to A (below the staff) is doable - but then it gets squirrelly? This is pretty normal when getting going on this. My recommendation, if you haven't already done it is to approach it like in this video ua-cam.com/video/WyjD_HiSWD0/v-deo.html
      I hope this helps :) would you let me know how its going? Finding the right voicing, air, and embouchure can be really particular in that area of the clarinet

      @@clarinetninja Only on clarion D/chalameau G. The C/F and B/E below it are mostly fine though the C/F does take extra effort to maintain. The D/G just instantly drops as soon as I let the register key go.

    Hello - Just started looking at your channel. I have never done anything with overtones and wanted to give this a try. When start on C, then play then release the register key, I keep the G for a second or two, then it drops back down to C. Any suggestions for sustaining the overtone? Thanks

      Without hearing it, I can’t give great actionable advice…but that won’t stop me from trying!
      It is most likely an air speed or “support” issue. There is a way to blow “fast” air that is different than just blowing harder. I have a video,a short, that shows how to block your bell with your leg. See if you can find that. That will get your air going. Then go right back to the overtones and see if there is a difference.

    Hi, love that app. my barrel pull out is something like 4mm. tuning, saw a 66mm barrel for my 45' Boosey & Hawkes 8-10 that has a 60mm barrel. Think I should buy the $50, 66mm barrel on ebay to try and fix that without the rings (I've already ordered, can't hurt...)? And yeah haunted another of your Y.T. vids with another comment/question. Ah, edit; when trying mouthpieces I run into high register in low notes with no control? What's doing that, bore/mouthpiece?

      Hi Mark! As I understand it, UA-cam recognizes interactions on the videos a good thing…haunt away…I love it.
      My thought about an uncontrolled low register is that there is something out of adjustment on your instrument. It could be the screw in your A key (second space) is screwed in a little bit too far. It probably sounds like I am kidding…but totally not kidding. Back that screw out a quarter turn or so and see if that makes a difference

    Can do all except middle C and D they either break into the major 6th above or just bluur ,, using 2,5 reed although can start them using the registry key ?

      It sounds to me that you are doing great! The "right" reed strength depends a lot on the mouthpiece you are using. Keep in mind that air and your embouchure/voicing are also important. It seems like more time and practice will reveal the answers. Maybe trying a #3 reed will help. This could create a change with no difference in how you are playing - or - it may create a different result when you change the other variables.Let me know how it's going :)

    I can only ever do high C and B then the sound goes bach down as soon as I try to play high A on D.

      Would you suggest a 3.5+ size for people? Rn I play on a rue lepic 3.5 and it feels soft so I want to bump up but I don't know if 3.5+ is actually a lot of if I should just go to 4s.

    • @clarinetninja
      @clarinetninja  Рік тому +1

      @@alecrussell7469 that is hard to say without knowing what mouthpiece you are playing. Even knowing that, my best answer falls in the realm of - get a box of #4’s and see how they feel to you. There is no substitute for direct experience.
      I recognize this is not exactly the answer you were looking for, but I am sure it’s the best way to move forward with the information you want:)
