Do it. Life is short. its nice to have a garage to work on these cars. I have a 1971 240Z with a twin turbo 5.3 LS engine I'm building. One of the best looking cars in history IMO.
I absolutely hate LS swapped japanese cars... BUT i also love 1JZ/2JZ swapped Camaros or Mustangs so... that makes it ok for me, even if you swap a RB26 there will still be people that will hate it anyway so have fun and do whatever you want to your car ;)
The original Z car was truly a masterpiece. I've been in love with it for over 20 years now. But over time the other Datsuns models have been growing on me and I love pretty much all of them. I was super close to buying a Datsun B210 a few months ago but circumstances forced me to say no. Maybe some day.
Hi Chris My wife and I own a 1975 280Z that we bought in 1981. We are both hopeless 280z addicts. The car needs a body refinish and some other things done. All those things diminish when we are in third gear and hitting 4000 rpm, that is when that 2.8 inline 6 starts to come alive, when you feel the hard pull of the engine, the sounds, and.. that is when we forget the scratches and dings! Chris find one that is not perfect, run it, listen to the Z talk to you. The smile on your face will not go away for a long time. Enjoy the ride!
Jerry ,you are so right my 1981 has some rust and so any other things to work on it,I though it's was y clutch that it it bad,but now that you mention about being in 3rd gear and that 6 in line becomes alive, wow that how I feel, pretty slow 1rs 2nd but 3rd and up amazing car

Just post in comments, but you should do this.......the prices of project cars are climbing and are starting to get harder to find at a good price.There are how ever still many owners that doubt the value of their car and sell them for less. I am turning 14 soon and I am looking forward to getting my drivers permit. I don't have a specific taste I like cars from any time period. at first I wanted to restore a ford F-100 from 1956 but I realized that IO don't have the recourses to do that. now I want to find a nice Datsun 280ZX that I could restore a little bit and if I need to fix the rust problem because I believe you could fix anything on a car if you do it right and take the time to. I know almost exactly how I want it to look so once I have the ability to do that I would. also my dad had one of these.

I've owned them all, 70-96. If your a purist get a 73. If you want a restomod get a 77-78. They are a tad heavier but there are alot of small things that are the best of the S30s. The window mechanisms and tracks are by far the best design. The body is stronger where it counts. They also look like a 240 with easy mods. I'm building a 76 turbo that will look like a 240 It already has the tail lights swaped in. Let the rich guys pay extra for the 240 badge.

The best way to obtain one is to join as many Datsun Z clubs you can as local as you can. No you don't need a car. The idea is you will meet people as passionate as you are over the Z. Most people in a car club have at least 3-5 Datsun Z.They either don't see ever having the time or money to finish that second ,third or fourth car.Our their wife wants it gone. But they ,will not just sell it. But they will sell it at a very very very low price to you.If they can see you love the car as most as they Do....they are happy to see it go to another "enthusiast.
I have 1977 280z with triple Weber, original working A/C, with tan color interior/ BMW blue color I added little metallic to the paint, every things in the car from electrical to mechanically in working good condition including the clock (My UA-cam picture) I've 2 babies my daughter and my Z. I don't know everyone's financial situation.. but it's still pretty hard to go wrong with getting a 240 --> 280z or even a 280zx really. Parts are available, once you have it right they're super easy to maintain which was something I always worried about before I bought my '79 280zx (1995 -- 2000) I wish I had more room, the HOA doesn't allow cars parked on the street. My garage and driveway are full.

Ok so I have a red 240z with a pandem kit. I plan on getting aftermarket wheels (watanabe rs) but I don’t know if I want to get powdered/painted chrome or gun metal grey. I wouldn’t mind some opinions on the matter if y’all wanna suggest what route I should go.

The early Z cars are some of the most beautifully proportioned vehicles ever built. They’re kinda like a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO except about $39,000,000.00 less. Just think of the restoration and mods you could do to a Z with 39 million dollars!
My mom inherited my great grandpas 77’ Datsun 280Z 2+2 and I’ve been trying to get her to let me help her fix it up and try to convince her to give it to me cuz she’s doing nothing with it.

Just picked up a 1976 280z and started wrenching as my first experience building a car. Its going great and I cannot wait to hear that tuned l28 sing!
