They should be making this stuff less proprietary. Like there is no reason i shouldn't be able to make my own storage, use my own pc and they could make an affordable player. Also owning your movies physically lends to removing drm easier
in a high end home that will have multiple tv's, what's the best strategy for getting multi room video? would u have a small number of Strato players, with a video matrix switcher? or would you have a Strato player for each tv, and no video matrix switching?
Still don't understand the pricing model. Either you make money with the movies and licences or with the hardware. But the margin on the hardware is just crazy for that hardware that is installed. As internet lines are getting faster and faster, some local ssd capacity is good enough. Traffic is in most cases no more counted and charged at colocation companies, so delete and download again does not increase any cost for Kaleidescape company. If that hardware would be less than 2k, i think they would gain many more customers than today. Completely wrong pricing model in my opinion.
If the system would be less then $1000 for 16TB system, home theater owners would buy this. But since it isn't they will use alternatives which are far cheaper. Yes, you still need to rip your Blu-rays yourself. But that isn't a big deal anyway.

Very expensive and I would beg to differ if it is any better then Apple TV. Sound may be a bit better but I would bet a side by side on a smaller TV size no one would be able to tell the difference. This is for a dedicated home theater with a 120 inc screen using a native 4k projector other then that its overkill and absurdly expensive.
