Excellent overview of the controller - I know at some point I will inevitably need some kind of controller with testing/monitoring capabilities, and I have an extremely low trust level for Neptune products. You mentioned your setup will still work even without internet and I find that aspect very appealing since Fusion outages seem to be a big problem with Apex. I’ll keep this on my radar, especially with ion director coming soon....🤔
Honestly if you like a reliable product this is it! If you ever need help setting it up let me know! I pray for the Ion director to be good. But based on their record I am pretty confident it will be! Yes there stuff isn’t the cheapest, but I also can’t complain since it works so well!
Cheaper isn’t always the main consideration and at the same time, if I spend more I want value for the extra - like most ppl! 😂😂 Thank you for the offer, I will definitely need help I suspect. 😬
@@Reefgrrl They have lots of their own UA-cam videos as well. I think they've gotten much better over the years in terms of making it more user friendly after more community feedback! Let me know!
Can you do an in depth video on your GHL controller setup and regimen? I'm curious about dosing, the stirrers, and testing. I'm looking at getting the profilux 4, KH Director, and Ion Director and trying to get an idea of the setup and how to prepare for additional things that would be needed such as waste containers and such. Thanks.
Charlie Stabler I just picked up the kH director and will be doing a video on that. In terms of setting up the Profilux, I already have a video of that. I may do a video on the dosers. Once they are setup though, I think the interface for the dosers is really nice. Go ahead and subscribe and keep messaging me for content. I definitely take comments into consideration. I make these videos in my free time, and can only create so many videos : D
By setup I don't mean the configuration. I'm interested in how your system operates. For example; at such and such time the controller tells the stirrers to turn on and and such and such time the controler switches the pumps connected to the power bar and then at such and such time the dosing pump doses this element. I wanna know the mechanics of how your system operates and how everything is connected to each other.
Gotcha. Yeah definitely. I’ll try to do one of those. The nice thing about the stirrers is that when you dose. The stirrers can be set to automatically start stirring 60s before they dose. It’s called lead time. Anyways. Yes should totally do a video on the system in general!
Ya I've watched all of your videos and every GHL video I can find. Unfortunately they are all on how to connect/ setup via the app or web. None on physical connections and planning a system and the functionality or what you can do and how to make it do those things. I was between the GHL and Neptune and it seems that both lack that knowledge.
Charlie Stabler No for sure, you bring up an excellent point. I’ll could do just a full system overview of what I have. Thanks for the suggestion! Appreciate the views : D
Happy New Year!!! Have you tried the Mitra 7206 by GHL? Are you currently using Radions? if so, what is the difference between the lighting? also have you used the "Therapy Program for sick fishes" within the Profilux 4 controller if so what does it consist of?
Happy new year! I have not yet used the Mitras but I’ve heard good things! I’d love to make the switch at some point. I currently have the AI hydras 26s and 52s. And no I haven’t used the therapy program. But the function is that when connected to your heaters and cooling systems it lowers your temperature gradually which is required for certain fish treatments. Probably not something you’d use in an active reef tank when you have corals. Maybe more so for QT systems?
I have the Neptune apex and am doing a new tank build with the Ghl controller and kh director, I do have to say this controller seems a little more complicated but I hear they are very robust and last a long time, is that true?
My 2 problems with GHL are the amount of functionalities that I wouldn't need and the high price for a complete solution. I feel it's a system that, just like Apex, is carrying too much baggage from the previous 2 decades. I want monitoring of a few parameters and alerts by sms and email and I got it with the Seneye for a fraction of the cost of a GHL/Apex solution.
Alfredo Reis Deus I can agree with that. At the end I mention that one of the potential downsides are sooo many functions features. And that it could be overwhelming. But you could just get the Profilux mini or e editions which have more of just the essentials. If you’re willing to spend the money for the P4 tough, it’s unlikely that you run into a condition where you can’t do something which is nice. Personally I love exploring the capability of the system. Lately there’s been a series of updates to the UI and graphing capabilities which makes the overall experience even better. My opinion of course. Are you currently using the apex?
@@HobbySci No, after being on the fence for a few years, I decided to use a Seneye to monitor temperature, pH, water level and ammonia (around 250 eur for the pack with the webserver). I am running a calcium reactor, dosing kalkwasser and I use dosers for Red Sea Colors, strontium and potassium nitrate. I am planning to get a Xepta autobalance to monitor KH and fine tune it. Would I exchange the Seneye for a GHL solution? Yes, but I can't justify paying 8 times the cost of the Seneye.
@@LightSearch I don't think it's 8x more but I definitely understand that cost is a huge factor. To be fair if you just want the P4 for monitoring you can get less expensive options. The Mega set offers power bars as well so it's more of an overall controller. If you ever do have the money to spare, I do recommend it though. I am very happy with mine. Do you upload any videos of your tank?
@@HobbySci I remember adding the cost of the Profilux Mega Set, Kh Director, Ion Director and the module to enable sms alerts and it would cost around 3K. But you're right, I should remove the Ion and KH Directors. But it won't be less then 1.500. I paid 2000 for my custom 200 gallon tank, cabinet and sump. I don't think I would be happy with just the mega set and the sms module. To really appreciate the system, I would need to get the KH and Ion Directors and a few other extras. In the end, I just couldn't justify not getting the Seneye for just 250 eur. It also includes a very accurate par meter. About my channel, don't pay attention to the high number of subs. For some weird reason youtube decided to promote one of my videos of an anemone in India, so 80-90% of my subs are prople from India who don't have any interest in fish or corals.
I went for the GHL over apex as the little boxes need everywhere for different sites would drive me insane. with GHL it just the breakout box 2 and its 1 box and power board at every station, e.g. water station and QT / frag tank
I honestly cannot speak to the Apex line. I’ve heard both good and bad things. As for GHL, I am very happy with the product and will set it up again if I get another system.
Hi, are you still happy with GHL? I have nothing but problems: the salinity probe delivers nothing but garbage, its readings fluctuate crazily up to +/- 1.5 mS! What does the ORP Probe tell me, i think its useless, it also fluctuates too much? The pH needs to be calibrated every second week! My KHD needed to be repaired twice within 6 months and i heavily overdosed due to its erroneous values! (When it sends an alarm, it continues to take the wrong values at face value and doses accordingly - a major bug in my opinion). Once it leaked! And my GHL vent broke its feet! I m really not happy with GHL
Emmanuel Perez actually yeah... I’m about to post an update video.. I’ve been trapped in China due to the virus outbreak. I am finally back. But an unintended month away from the tank was not good
@@HobbySci happy everything sounds good with you. Excited to see the new content. I'm so fascinated with the GHL line since alot of people are not supportive of the platform and you have the whole ecosystem. I'm really want to know the pros and cons as I see that they are a quality product
Nice to see more reviews on GHL. But honestly, didn't add much to the talk, most of what you said was kind of obvious. And without a comparison with Neptune, it's worthless for most users here in the US. Don't take my comment in a negative way, I'm just suggesting going deeper and comparing this to the apex.
I agree. Could always use more info. There’s just so much you can do though. As for the apex conversation I don’t own one, and so it may be hard for me to have a good opinion on it.. Having multiple systems is just not something I can afford atm :/
@@HobbySci Apex is over priced and forces you to stay with Apex if you want the Trident. If you want the Trident to dose, you have to buy the dos, which is a two head, $300 doser and is pretty crappy quality. Apex is more concerned with milking customers than doing what customers want. Hopefully, GHL and Hydros push the Apex into actually listening to customers and stop milking everything.

Never found the GHL programming to be intuitive and straightforward. Extremely difficult and furthermore the naming is dismal. Thanks for doing this.
