Cancel Culture is one of the worst things to happen on the modern internet, plaguing websites like Twitter the most. However, jschlatt has managed to find himself in a position where he can use it to grow instead of decline his channel. Though many Minecraft UA-camrs like Dream and Wilbur Soot have come under fire, none of them have been cancelled as often as Schlatt. Due to this, none of the attempts made have caused him to stop doing what he loves, and this video will look more into that.
This is not a collab with ConnorEatsPants and JustaMinx, Minecraft Man Hunt, Dream SMP, Epic SMP with SwaggerSouls, or Chuckle Sandwich Podcast with Ted Nivison and Slimecicle, this is a video essay which pertains to a much more serious topic. This steps outside of the borders and provides a commentary to jschlatt being cancelled online. Maybe someone like Connor Pugs or Pancho will happen to stumble across this video, who knows how well it will do...

One of the biggest problems with cancel cultures is people trying to speak for others. If the offended party says it's fine, then drop it. It's not your problem. I saw a video of white person in a traditional Mexican outfit. He asked college students (all of them non-mexican) if the outfit was offensive and they all said "Yes." One even went as far as to take off a piece of the outfit despite the asker being very polite. He then went to several Mexican households and asked the same question. They all said "No" and a few even complemented him on his clothing choices. For all the preaching Twitter does of "not speaking over people," cancel culture is entirely based around it.

Had a sort of similar experience. Was at this fair and there was a man who had traditional Afghani clothing that is meant for formal events. Asked him what he would think if I bought it to wear, he said he would be happy I cared about the culture to want to buy something I probably wasn’t used to wearing.
I think most people of groups cancel culture lovers like to speak for are just elated that someone cared enough to have an interest.

How I figured out the persona vs person when I first discovered Schlatt, was by looking at his friends that are less surrounded by the bit and their opinions of him. Y'know, the people that actually know him. People like Wilbur Soot, Jaiden, and Slimecicle
Wilbur is absolutely a defender of his queer audience, intolerant of hate. Slimecicle will immediately cut off someone who is found to be genuinely problematic, no ifs ands or buts
Jaiden, who was mentioned in the video, actually made a joke about being Asian herself once in a Mario Kart game with Schlatt. Schlatt, not knowing she was Asian, immediately jumped to "you can't say that" territory (vaguely uncomfortable laughter and all) before she clarified her ethnicity upon realizing that they didn't know. Now, him and Jaiden are actually pretty good friends, with her succeeding in freaking him tf out in a hilarious clip on her channel. Jaiden somehow matches and sometimes surpasses Schlatt's chaos by just being herself, and I am absolutely here for it as a long time fan of her
Another way I figured out Schlatt, was by watching clips when him and his friends were just chilling in VC while on others' streams. When all the extra-ness is gone and it's genuine conversation that happens to be on a Tommy stream or something. When Schlatt is messing around with Quackity and calling him "mi novio" (my boyfriend) using the little Spanish he knows back in 2020
Once you see the real him, it's much easier to see when he's playing the persona. Dude is a genuinely great guy
I can just imagine every Twitter user in a diaper with their face red about how schlatt made a joke and they took it out of context.
Just to show how dumb Twitter is: My friends said that Jschlatt was “homophobic” and they no longer support him. I asked them, “when?” And they replied with “I don’t know.”

That was an awesome video! I discovered Schlatt through Slimecicle back in 2019, when the success was rising. I immediately found myself loving the character he played. He truly is an incredible actor, and I find myself revisiting his videos, streams, and podcasts whenever I feel down. He's honestly one of the first things myself and my brother have been able to bond over since we grew out of the first Golden age of Minecraft UA-cam back in 2015. If I could afford to go to an even and meet him, while getting over my crimping travel anxiety, I would shake his hand, look him in the eye, and thank him wholeheartedly for all the hard moments he's gotten me through these past few years. Seeing his success today, with him back in live streaming, having moved to Austin, and becoming an owner of OTK has really been a treat.
The very fact he just keeps going no matter what he faces just makes him better

I'm 17 now, I've been in contact with the internet culture since I was 6 years old, I have lived through the cultural change we had in this connected world and the things people get cancelled nowadays ARE NOTHING compared to what used to be said back then; and it's a sad picture really, how some people only get this feeling of moral responsibility and realization from ruining other person's life over something they don't personally like instead of turning a blind eye and continuing life; I'm young af but I can certainly say like a grandpa that these people haven't lived just enough.

From what I can tell, the underground group stuff was ended back in July, but they could just as easily pop up out of nowhere like what happened the first time. You'll be able to tell the difference whether the cancellation is sourced from the hive mind or the malicious people controlling them based on the intent behind the tweets that start it.

It gets better when Minx told us on her stream that he makes jokes about her because she's okay with it, and it also raises awareness. It kinda sucks how he is misunderstood a lot, but he really did create a funny character
I like Minx for this exact reason. She's not scared of voicing her true opinions and making similar jokes. I believe that she has also created a character to do bits with, as there was a drastic shift in her before and after the original Jschlatt Love or Host (then called the Rajjchelor).

FINALLY. Someone mentions how good an actor Schlatt is. I’ve seen many people say that Schlatt acting on the Dream Smp is one of the top 3 performances, and they don’t know why he’s so good at it. And I always have to explain “ITS BECAUSE HES CONSTANTLY PUTING ON A CHARACTER WHEN ON SCREEN” they wonder why content creators are still friends with him. The answer is that they are still friends with him because they know the real Schlatt and enjoy his company. You think you know a lot about your favorite content creator, but in reality you don’t know jack shit.

He specializes in dark and offensive humor, which admittedly gets a little overboard depending on who you are and your own sense of humor, but regardless isn't actively damaging to any sort of minority group. If someone's content isn't for you, that's totally okay, but you cant simply decide to revoke someone's platform because you disagree with them. And there are much better things people could be doing to actively aid minorities and the serious issues they face, rather than devoting your time to ending some random guy's career over a few distasteful jokes.

schlatt simply just doesn’t give a shit. He only does youtube as a job and doesn’t even really consider his fans as fans. He sees us as a sort of income and its just a job he does which is logical. He talks about how he views youtube on his alt channel called The Weekly Slap for more info.

I discovered shlatt about 2 months ago and had never heard anything about him prior. While I found some of his content unpleasant or unnecessarily confrontational, I kept watching because I was trying to figure out if it was a bit or if he is sincerely like that. I'm glad I didn't judge to quickly, because I find his style of content hilarious and very enjoyable!
