Ghosh draws our attention to the unpatented Indian ancient knowledge that can strongly counter the patented scientific knowledge of the West. Ross got the Nobel Prize for discovering the cause of Malaria, whereas we see that Mangla also could treat disease like syphilis.. But, her knowledge remains unpatented and so also unacclaimed. Mangla may be a fictional character but we know the fact that Ross worked in India and his lab technicians were Indians. Also the Subaltern Indians were able to cure syphilis before the discovery of the cause of malaria. When we connect all these dots, we understand that Ghosh presents the Indian ancient knowledge as a counter to the western scientific knowledge....
We know how the Nicobar Islanders have sustained the ancient knowledge even today... And that is also un-patented.
