Good review but I really wish you would have touched on Bellas relationship with sex and intimacy. I think it’s very telling how sex is such a huge focus of the movie despite Bella having the brain of a child - she is more easily manipulated and sexualised because of her diminished brain capacity. She is a child up to a certain point. You noticed that by the way she talks and the way her body moves, but as the movie progresses, so does Bella. Don't think about a child having sex, that's horrible and disgusting, see how she starts speaking like a baby and by the end of the movie, her eloquence is impressive. I think it's her innocent perspective of the mind of a kid (how a child wonders easily, how kids say things that are in their mind without filters, and how that sometimes makes grown-ups uncomfortable).
The Control is the Key. Just like Godwin, Bella become a person who likes control the others, at the end of the film she is the boss but in a disturbing way. She wanted to make the world a better place during the movie, but in the end she failed because she became another person who likes to be in the top of the pyramid. Very pessimistic ending.

Great analysis. I am so glad you brought up the themes of Godwin Baxter's love towards Bella despite being experimented on. I've watched so many videos on Poor Things and they all bring up essential Povs/analysis, but not many shed enough light on Godwin's optimism and love in the face of adversity. Glad you enjoyed the video 😊 yeah Godwin was a character that could have an entire breakdown video on just him. His love for Bella was unique, but no different to how a father would love a daughter and it was beautiful. His past sounded horrific, but he didn't let it hold him back. Such a great character!

It's quite insane how you did not even dare to mention the sexism that was flooding the movie, the female experience and how a woman was ''created'' and molded by men wanting to own her for all their lives; she is genuinely trapped in a patriarchal world. Not saying that it was a sexist or misogynistic film, but I truly believe the huge underlying sexism was there for a reason. Makes you wonder...
I do think it shows the prospective of a women towards the world and her self if she lived by her free will and instinct instead of what society tell her which is why Bella was brave enough to reject any form of controlling by men through the movie and she wasn’t ashamed of her desires as she analyzed everything by pure logic
This movie was genius. A few people commented about her sexualization and I think it's interesting that most of the men could tell she wasn't of age, possibly mentally ill, or overall just not properly prepared to engage in sex, yet they all kept advancing except for 2 dudes... the literal 2% of men that are proper and good LOL. The rest couldn't resist. I think they depicted her as a grown woman from the start to really highlight the cruel physical standards and harsh objectification of women from an abominably early age. Very sad, however very allegorical of our society and how men are trained to operate and think within the patriarchy. I cannot decide whether this film was more successful in its depiction of women or men... I think it really was successful at commenting on both. I cannot help but want to make bets on the fact that an overwhelmingly large amount of men probably weren't bothered by the instructive father in the brothel, but could imagine what thoughts would have conjured in audiences if it were a mother instructing her daughters instead... This also highlights the negative ideals that fathers perpetuate in their sons towards women... My favorite lines in the film were when she replies to Duncan after he calls her a whore... and says something along the lines of being in production because of him and men everywhere for that matter.... as well as pretty much everything Jerrod Carmichael exchanged with her and the elderly woman on the ship. Something about this film also reminded me of original sin... given all the moments of temptation and not just sexual... but all inclusively speaking. To all of those saying that this isn't a family friendly movie I disagree... appropriate for young children absolutely not, but for a group of smart socially conscious pre teens with parents, possibly... I cannot fathom why getting through the entire film would be a problem with family from an educational standpoint. Young women everywhere should know that this is how fucked up men and the patriarchy truly are... Young women should see the negative consequences of abiding to the quo for comfort and acceptance instead of delving into their innate thirst for intellectual integrity... just like men can and do... not saying they have ever had the choice especially in the past and sadly still in some places today..., but this fear should incite a strong will to challenge that authority on all levels and at all costs. I think this idea is incredibly positive for young developing female minds everywhere. People have such large issues with discussing self pleasure, human pleasure, and human development... I would really like to make the argument that if people were told about these things earlier or properly educated even, maybe just maybe, some of her mistakes wouldn't have happened in the first place. Maybe if women were given the same capacities as men these worldly issues would become less of a problem or cease to exist altogether... We see this in the film... and in life... instead of anyone taking the time to properly educate her about her body they all start to shame her and perpetuate antiquated taboo themes around sex... she seeks then seeks her information in the wrong places in extreme measures... exposing herself to disease and prostitution. People saying this was disturbing are also so so wrong... it's absurdist and comparable to the rest of Yorgos Lanthimos' works which all seem to talk about regular common themes that are displayed within very garish ways for overall impact. The eIderly woman and Jerrod were such a dose of positive reality... just too two genuine friends bound by intellect, as opposed to any other ulterior motive from what it seemed. I was glad to see the movie highlight that all levels of society think about sex. Like people need to get over shame around one of the bests parts of human existence. I find it funny that the lower levels of society somehow seemed more morally intact, and that the higher levels less mentally intact. I also think desire for knowledge is also something not talked about as much when analyzing the film. some people were upset she didn't reanimate Godwin. They felt her detachment from him was cruel and rather empty however their relationship was the most pure to me. He created her out of his own desires... which probably were propelled by science and familial loneliness I'd assume. She didn't dishonor him fully. She left because she had to... It was inhumane to keep a mind restricted as such. Not only did she return for the closure that needed and deserved but she honors him by inheriting his practices. Setting aside emotion as he did and doing what has to be done for the "greater good". Sometimes we hate some of the things are parents did to us and realize after, that it was for the best. This ending was perfect to me, especially given the social, economic, and political state that challenges women everywhere today in our world. Overall takeaways for me as a cis-man include... There is much more to female existence than being a mother and bearing children. Sex work isn't at all even remotely evil for the person doing it. Wealth and education are a lottery and shouldn't be a reason to look down on others. People, especially women, are certainly not property to be claimed. People, especially women, don't depreciate after sex like used cars. People, especially women, can aspire to go, do, and become anything as they please... The standards for masculinity, male behavior, male emotional education, truly means must change. Last, women and women alone can and should be in control of legislation that concerns their sex.
This is such a wonderful analysis and review of the movie! Genuinely better than the video because he neglected or wasn’t paying attention to the clear themes of gender, sexuality, and feminism that are at the core of poor things. Coming from a woman, I thought this review was written by a woman until that last part, because it is truly so insightful and understanding of female perspective and how this movie uses it. Couldn't agree more with everything you said!
Your analysis of this movie is the best I've seen, heard, or read anywhere. You touched on the core theme and analyzed it as it should've been done. About the last paragraph, I don't have enough words to appreciate how beautifully you put things together and how everything just made sense. Your insight about how things should be is truly accurate. Just loved reading it. ❤
It actually doesnt really make a diffrence, the diffrence comes thru the education and some part hormones after puperty but for an unborn baby it doesn't matter.
Saw it yesterday with my brother and it is both of our favorites of 2023. It is so surreal, fantastical and sweetly inspiring. Max and Bella are EVERYTHING! They are so freaking cute together. I know Willem Defoe and Mark Ruffalo are getting more supporting actor attention but honestly Ramy Youssef is being underrated. He is so sweet and supportive of Bella through her journey and he gets the girl ❤
Could not agree more. Ramy's acting as Max McCandless was amazing. He was precise with his humor while also balancing out with a genuine sense of purity and love.
@@curtisthomson4209 good for you. If you had a young daughter with learning difficulties how would you feel about her being pursued sexually by a much older man? Bella has a babies brain don't forget.
Lmao she couldn't get an abortion and tried to commit suicide and then was "saved" by a freak, doesn't even have her own brain anymore, groomed by older men when she had the mind of an infant, sold her body to make money after her husband stole hers and you think that autonomy? Yikes!
Slavoj Zizek said: ”Poor Things claims to be a feminist film, but it is simply ableist and misogynistic and disgusting. Watch Barbie instead, same story but better.”
Yep i for sure thought thats what they were going to do. Loved the film but the ending could have been awesome had they given godwin a new complete body especially seeing how his father had mutilated him and deprived him of a normal life.
Like Everything/Everywhere: I had no idea what was happening & why! It took me a while what it was telling me. Once I got there, I truly appreciated the movie & had no idea how it was going to end. Fabulous!!! Like you, my first theater experience in a very long time & this movie needs a second watch. 💖
I haven't had the chance to watch "Poor Things" yet, but I'm looking forward to doing so soon. With so many great films from 2023 to catch up on, I recently had the pleasure of watching "The Anatomy of a Fall" and "The Lesson," and I must say, they were absolutely brilliant.
@@BrainPilot I don't know, I'm on the fence. Because he had the knowledge to bring someone back so I'm assuming that his father knew how to bring him back. **SPOILER ALERT** I'm a little disappointed with the ending though. I wish that Godwin's brain was in Alfie and Alfie's brain was in the goat.
how about the entrapment of too much hedonistic pleasure/ the power relations between Bella and her partners. Her desensitization to the nature of her actions and her need to find a true purpose
In the end, Bella is no better than the guy she turns into a sheep. You can dismiss it as a innocent(!?) joke and say that he deserved it, but if you just think about it, you realize the brutality of what she did. She is just as sick as her ex-husband. She has learned nothing and her progression didn’t mean anything. A very strange and pessimistic message but very fitting our times. Just like jokes that nowadays everyone makes about white old men for example, without hesitation, thinking they are not racist, sexist or evil. So if bella does the evil, it seems ok to many viewers because she is part of our identity group. We don’t even identify it as wrongdoing. That’s very disturbing. …or at least it should be disturbing to everybody, not funny.
I just watched this movie and it was incredible…the fish hole camera gave me a feeling of like looking through a peephole or even a microscope…as we were observing Godwins experiment
This is one of the best movies that I will only recommend to a select few people. The majority of my friends and family would find it too confusing or disturbing 😅
I watched this yesterday and, even though it's only January I don't think I'll have a stranger 2 hours for the rest of the year. I think I need to see it again tbh.
This did not explain the meaning at all. It explained literally what happened, but not the metaphor. I'm still trying to figure out exactly what that metaphor is, but this video didn't help.
@BrainPilot Where did Duncan come from, I saw the movie yesterday and it looked like he only merely went through the second floor open window, touched her knee and they went off while she was still engaged to be married?
He was a lawyer brought in by Godwin who drew up the contract of engagement for Max and Bella's marriage. Then from there he saw Bella and he devised his plan
'her brain inside her mother's body' ?? no, my innerstanding is that is is 'her baby's brain now placed inside her head' Bella being pregnant when she jumped from the bridge - and her baby's brain placed in her head as a part of reviving her... (a few spoilers in this video above). also re: feelings and emotion - not sure the extent to which Bella/ other character's in this film 'feel'... actually, not with a sense of depth feeling, love or empathy with them generally, more at times of a caricature... similar to Lewis Caroll representation of Alice - and seems Bella is wearing similar Alice colours/ clothes i.e. her blue jacked, yellow skirt... Alice too an Adventurer in Consciousness - and, as Bella similarly is exploring 'other worlds' (more external) too. Curiously, the 'fish-eye' lens too reminds me of 'The Rabbit Hole' the 'Through the Looking Glass'' i.e. to enter 'other worlds' 'other realms of consciousness' often we need to go through a portal/ initiatory experiences - which may be bizarre, surreal; i.e. we a 'thrown into the unknown.' 'Only Chaos can give birth to a fallen star' Nietzsche, this too comes to mind in seeing Bella's evolution, Life unfolding. And, these themes too in Alice/ in Poor Things too resonant of many Victorian (ie also Gothic novels) at the time - and, paramount, in the consciousness of these Novels at the time also themes such as 'Science and Ethics' and 'Woman's Emancipation' 'Oppression of Women' 'Pathologising of Women i.e. 'hysterical woman in the attic' Victorian Novel archetype. I.e. at this time also this film so poignant because ALSO we are many of us and riGHtly (!) questioning and 'calling to account' some of the agendas of current day Scientists and A.I. peddlers - where are the Ethics? to what extent are these Technologies in the hands of the benevolent, the ones with good intentions?! Ethics, technology, science, A.I. - when to intervene? Listening to Ram Dass share stories my-steries of his guru in India Neem Karoli Baba there are times when Maharaji (also his name0 visits the sick and they 'heal/ are healed' and other times when he 'leaves things be' - he's moving with the Tao, he's become a part of the Tao; he's not 'playing God' he's with an 'acting' so Right that this is the Mysterious Cosmos 'moving through him.' In other words, Action can be 'artificial' and interference or a 'meant to be' - this contemplation occurs to me re: this film i.e. with God (also simply short for Godwin) and Bella.../ Coming back to the representation of Feeling/ Emotion yes a touching love yes between Bella and Godwin/ and feels more a filial love with Max. not a feeling of the representations of Love here being 'romantic' in the original sense of the word i.e. this is not so much a film about 'sensibility.' i.e. feel that Bella does have an 'automaton' quality, not a sense of her deeply feeling into choices, no sense of a cognitive or enhearted complexity i.e. she feels more with a 'scientific' categorising 'brain' journeying through life on impulse often primal and Will (will of a 2 year old, 'the terrible twos!') and latterly will of a more embodied, awakened woman i.e. her new-found hunger for books/ knowledge. It matters too i feel to acknowledge that this film was inspired by the book Poor Things, Alasdair Gray whom it seems was profoundly influenced by and inspired by Mary Shelley's Frankenstein too. Possibly other Victorian Gothic novels. For sure, it's a visceral film - felt very 'under the skin' - and, inciting of much dialogue, contemplation. Bold and brave, 'wow!' to the creation of this film!
Bella's brain matured, she was no longer a child when she was whorin. Her growth was faster than usual, no teen would explore philosophy if not exposed early in life.
From the Wikipedia page: "Mick LaSalle at the San Francisco Chronicle called the film "a 141-minute mistake" and asserted, "Worst of all, it's dishonest. It purports to be a feminist document, but it defines a woman's autonomy as the ability to be exploited and not care." So if any of you are wondering what the hell the whole NXIUM cult was about... now you know. Some of y'all are late for your brandings.
Visuals are extremely beautiful in this movie but has anyone noticed Bella's dresses were very different than the era she was in?. Her clothes looked more like high fashioned than victorian. Even the sunglass and shoe she wore were indifferent to any other women in the movie.
I thought those shots with the little circle were like her sunglasses that she has throughout the film so it’s like you’re seeing things through her eyes
I'll admit I was more than a bit uncomfortable at first when Bella discovered sex etc, it was beyond awkward considering the circumstances of her being. But I guess I kinda got over it at some point. I honestly thought it was an amazing movie and it was so entertaining and intriguing watching Bella's progression. Love her lol. I don't follow the awards shows etc but if Emma Stone didn't receive some accolades for her performance SHE SHOULD HAVE and it's a damn shame!! Loved the movie overall once I got past that initial uncomfortable feeling near the beginning, and I thought it was brilliant.
The first black and white section got distracting every time Emma Stone's American accent popped out while being a character recently having been brain-born in Victorian London.
Life is meant for living. This includes pedophelia, I guess? Great movie. Made by a sick mind for sick minds. So much to look forward to in this brave new world that they are pushing on us.
This movie is beyond adult themes… inhumanely immoral, it’s demented and gross! Cynical too! Didn’t laugh once, didn’t cry, didn’t like any of the characters!
I had a thought that the black and white part was a reference to the thought experiment “Mary in the black and white room”🤔 The experiment is used to distinguish humans from artificial intelligence. In it, you have Mary who is Color scientist and knows everything about color, the wavelengths, the numbers and so on, but she has never experienced color, as she lives in a black and white room. When she leaves the room, she becomes the human.
Beautifully filmed and artistically designed, this "edgy" film (at least its "Dogtooth" director is) was essentially an empty exercise in exploitative "furious jumping" that took over 3/4 of the audience's time with a pointless absurdist pseudo-agenda that bored rather than inspired. Pedophiliac, necrophiliac and exploitative of the human condition rather than inspiring, this is destined to be a cult movie. John Waters' Pink Flamingos comes to mind!
Great movie nice and different. To me Mark Ruffalo was great in his roll. He definitely needs an award for this, had me dying from laughter. The style of Poor Things reminded me of a Wes Anderson style movie.
The movie got socialism right, in its promise, its appeal, its virtue, and in some important ways (such as a temptation to equate science-knowing about the world-and Progress) its misuses.
This year has started really well film wise, productions I really want to see at the cinema. I agree it did get better and better as you watched. Im glad I found your review as you added things I hadn't thought about! I will say at the end I was surprised the revenge they took on the general wasn't to put God in his body. They loved God and this way God could have lived on in a body that hadnt been abused...........A treat for me this week after seeing the film, I was lucky enough to be able to see the costumes at the Barbican London!
Wife wanted to leave after 20 mins, we lasted until 50 mins. It's basically the sexual grooming and abuse of a (depending on your point of view) a retarded adult with the mind of a 4yr old or an actual child. Either way it's a horrible movie IMO. I don't understand why someone would want to film such sex scenes or why some people consider it 'art'.
It really showed the toxic way men have throughout history handled sons coming of age. It wasn't uncommon for centuries for a dad to take his young son (as young as 14, 15) to have his first sexual experience with a prostitute. Now....watching dad do the deed is kinda....different lol I don't know if that's something that happened as well, but it reminded me of that same mindset. Maybe the toxic nature needed to stand out in a more shocking way, more obvious. I have to wonder if the book sheds more light on this.
@@unholyroller11 Nothing toxic about it. Just good parenting. There should be basic sexual education in schools. The entire film is, among other things, about the problems and obsession men as a gender have with sex and sexual desires.
Amazing movie the only thing that really comes close is The City of Lost Children from 1995 but only by the trippy confusing aspect of it. My only gripe with the movie is the amount of sex scenes, they could’ve made their point with about half the amount or less. Highly suggest watching this on shrooms for a bonkers time, acid if you mad lad. Don’t eat for the first half…. Made that mistake at a draft house. Also I thought this was horror at first but it’s actually a dark comedy that hurts the ego of fragile npc men. 9/10 nothing really like this. Edit: one last thing do not watch this with family members cause awkwardness or atleast parents cause the point will fly over their clouded heads, the older generation doesn’t know how to think and ponder with their minds.
I thought this video would focus more on the end… I enjoyed the movie at first but it felt long midway and some of the sex scenes weren’t needed to convey what was happening… I didn’t enjoy the end as much because it didn’t complete a cycle… I suppose it was the happy ending we could have with her newly created family and the new possibilities in terms of work… I would’ve prefer if her biological dad got killed in self defence and she inherited all his money and made good use of it… alas. It is what it is… her choice I guess 😅
*WAY* too much hype imo. Went in so excited and left feeling…..well, meh? Cinematography was amazing no doubt, but story wise, I was just not all too impressed considering the buzz.
Definitely didn’t need the copious amounts of sex scenes… I feel like that diminished the credibility of the storyteller. Almost seemed like an agenda was being pushed… overall I liked the idea and story but the execution was poorly done
It's a delicious mish-mash of Frankenstein, the Island of Dr. Moreau, Zola's Gay Ninties novels about proper hypocritical upper classes and prostitutes; Metropolis and the literary genre of the picaresque in Voltaire's Candide.
This movie owes a lot to ORLANDO (1992) and BRAM STOKER’S DRACULA (1992). You won’t find it so original after watching all three. Poor Things has gratuitous sex and corny CGI critters. The ending was awful.
Yeah! And why no explanation of the puzzling ending in a video called "Ending explained "? Huh? You expected God's brain to be placed in the husband's body!! Thus giving him a functional body AND good looks.
BTW "Orlando" is my mpst hated movie of all time and I've seen thousands of movies. Lots of beautiful images and stilted acting and dialogue. So there! But I can see your point.
Um this movie was absolutely unwatchable and uncomfortable. Don’t forget that this woman has a brain of a baby in a fully grown woman. Plus this movie is trying to be so many things at once. It’s a no

I'd say it's as much a family movie as Barbie is. They both explore the same themes, just in two different ways.

Godwin survived the cruelty of his father (cutural conditioning) and he created Bella free of it all; resilient to life experiences by instincts...

@@juliettacrowder5453same! Thought it was a woman til the last paragraph. Made me so happy to see a man write this!
We are of course assuming's a baby girl's brain in Bella"s body. What if it was a boy's brain. that would get everyone going.
That would explain a lot imo
Wow mind blown 🤯
Brilliant insight. That would make so much sense
It actually doesnt really make a diffrence, the diffrence comes thru the education and some part hormones after puperty but for an unborn baby it doesn't matter.
Oh yes.Assuming you have testicles in your brain😅
Its not to be taken literally
This is my Barbie movie.
Haha!
This is weird Barbie movie, I LOVE IT!
Sweetly inspiring? I saw a comment from a mother who has a neurodivergent daughter and this film made us both sick.
@@pauljazzman408 Interesting. My son and I both have Asperger’s and my wife and daughter both have ADHD. I loved this movie.
@@curtisthomson4209 good for you. If you had a young daughter with learning difficulties how would you feel about her being pursued sexually by a much older man? Bella has a babies brain don't forget.
@@pauljazzman408couldn’t agree more. This movie is disgusting
I loved how much autonomy Bella had over her being and body.
She really didn’t, she has the brain of a baby/child
Lmao she couldn't get an abortion and tried to commit suicide and then was "saved" by a freak, doesn't even have her own brain anymore, groomed by older men when she had the mind of an infant, sold her body to make money after her husband stole hers and you think that autonomy? Yikes!
Someone said it was a frankenhooker remake and now I can’t unsee it
Oh no lol
Nightmare Before Christmas
Omfgggg nooooo 😂
@@unholyroller11 my mom even agreed 😂she’s the reason why I know that movie
Bizarre to not at all mention the struggle of the female experience and saying that this a part of the human experience.
Slavoj Zizek said: ”Poor Things claims to be a feminist film, but it is simply ableist and misogynistic and disgusting. Watch Barbie instead, same story but better.”
Q. Why didn't she put Godwins brain in the the Generals Body? could have still put the generals brain into the goats body for laughs
Exactly what I thought / wanted. Better resolution
Yep i for sure thought thats what they were going to do. Loved the film but the ending could have been awesome had they given godwin a new complete body especially seeing how his father had mutilated him and deprived him of a normal life.
EXACTLY!!!!!
THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT THIS VIDEO WAS ABOUT!
T H I S N E E D S T O B E T A L K E D A B O U T ! ! !
I got the pleasure of watching this on January 2nd in theaters. It was phenomenal!
It's amazing isn't it!
The production design on this was class ❤ insane! I was blown away by Saltburn, but I think this is definitely above it
Yeah there's way more complexity and a deeper story to this!
I love it when a movie gives that feeling!
Two great movies! Poor Things is one that's definitely worth the watch too!
Don’t watch it. It is sick in a bad way
Formidable!!❤
Willem nods to Osborn by saying "I'm somewhat of a romantic myself."
Did Godwin die at one point too? He was experimented on a lot.
Personally I don't think he did. Yeah you can only imagine the horrors that Godwin went through
@@BrainPilot I don't know, I'm on the fence. Because he had the knowledge to bring someone back so I'm assuming that his father knew how to bring him back.
**SPOILER ALERT**
I'm a little disappointed with the ending though. I wish that Godwin's brain was in Alfie and Alfie's brain was in the goat.
@@joneshoward17the switch between God's and Alfie's brain was surely on the director table. I don't know why the team didn't go for it
@@tudorm3607 it was right there.
how about the entrapment of too much hedonistic pleasure/ the power relations between Bella and her partners.
Loved the overall summary I find it so relevant and precise...
We are going down hill to
Think this is Oscar worthy
I would love to hear your opinion please!
This is one of the best movies that I will only recommend to a select few people. The majority of my friends and family would find it too confusing or disturbing 😅
Yeah I get what you mean there haha
I feel like this review is shallow and don’t touch on so many amazing things that were presented. I want to see a woman take on it at this point
This reminds me so much of the controversy around Peter Greenaway's films - a director that women loved but men hated.
I watched this yesterday and, even though it's only January I don't think I'll have a stranger 2 hours for the rest of the year. I think I need to see it again tbh.
It was amazing wasn't it. I'm looking forward to a rewatch when it eventually gets released!
@@BrainPilot I may have to have another cinema visit soon :P
This did not explain the meaning at all.
It explained literally what happened, but not the metaphor. I'm still trying to figure out exactly what that metaphor is, but this video didn't help.
@BrainPilot Where did Duncan come from, I saw the movie yesterday and it looked like he only merely went through the second floor open window, touched her knee and they went off while she was still engaged to be married?
He was a lawyer brought in by Godwin who drew up the contract of engagement for Max and Bella's marriage. Then from there he saw Bella and he devised his plan
story is not complicated but the beauty is in the direction of the movie
It purports to be a feminist document, but it defines a woman's autonomy as the ability to be exploited and not care."
So if any of you are wondering what the hell the whole NXIUM cult was about... now you know. Some of y'all are late for your brandings.
When are getting silo episode 7 review?
I too loved this movie and yes; the seagull scene did remind me of The Lighthouse Keeper.
Haha, glad I'm not the only one!
I thought the same thing. Bad luck to kill a sea bird!
That's definitely a possibility!
Beautiful art!
It truly was!
@BrainPilot that movie was the best movie of 2023
I'll admit I was more than a bit uncomfortable at first when Bella discovered sex etc, it was beyond awkward considering the circumstances of her being.
Just saw it. Amazing.
Isn't it just!
How can you not mention Alasdair Gray's work?
It was actually 24-25 minutes of black n white u said 45 which I’ll agree it def felt like
Maybe read the book, there are far more levels of complexity
The first black and white section got distracting every time Emma Stone's American accent popped out while being a character recently having been brain-born in Victorian London.
wild how no religious symbolism was mentioned by you AT ALL. great take though. amazing movie from the cinematography to the audio. actors nailed it
Horrible disgusting movie a nod to Kinsey. Not surprised holly weird gave it all those Oscar’s, and Balenciaga still in business
This was such a visually stimulating movie! I loved it!!
I really want to see this movie ❤
The cinematography was next level.
Yeah it was great!
Maybe the black and white was a reflection of her baby like view of the world as infants see in black and white when born.
Yeah that's definitely one way to look at it!
“It’s another life, not the bella baxter’s”
Life is meant for living. This includes pedophelia, I guess? Great movie. Made by a sick mind for sick minds. So much to look forward to in this brave new world that they are pushing on us.
Postmodern garbage movie.
Am I the only one who absolutely does not like this movie?
Not the only one! There are a few that aren't a fan
You are not alone. This is a terrible nasty horror porn of a film
This movie is beyond adult themes… inhumanely immoral, it’s demented and gross! Cynical too! Didn’t laugh once, didn’t cry, didn’t like any of the characters!
Yes
@@pauljazzman408that would be Serbian film, Irréversible, or legit a lot of things on spookyrices channel. This doesn’t compare.
I had a thought that the black and white part was a reference to the thought experiment “Mary in the black and white room”🤔
The experiment is used to distinguish humans from artificial intelligence.
Vignette shot
This movie is definitely a surprise
Yeah it really was!
Most interesting film ive watch in a while
Yeah it was a good one!
The movie got socialism right, in its promise, its appeal, its virtue, and in some important ways (such as a temptation to equate science-knowing about the world-and Progress) its misuses.
People seem to love this movie, I just don’t get it
Looked amazing just found it annoying
Really? What was annoying about it?
Did they HAVE to make her a prostitute? Typical male fantasy!
Sometimes we don't get things when they just don't speak to us.
María Magdalena?
Half the theater got up and left during the sex scene with the children. This was just gross porn.
To be fair it was an 18 rated movie
Wife wanted to leave after 20 mins, we lasted until 50 mins. It's basically the sexual grooming and abuse of a (depending on your point of view) a retarded adult with the mind of a 4yr old or an actual child. Either way it's a horrible movie IMO. I don't understand why someone would want to film such sex scenes or why some people consider it 'art'.
LOL, you are dumb.
The entire film is, among other things, about the problems and obsession men as a gender have with sex and sexual desires.
this would have been a great movie if it wasn´t for the pedo scenes
Idk I just feel like the lust storyline took over the majority of the movie😂. It was basically a movie making its case for heathenism.
First movie I’ve seen at cinemas this year too.
And what a good one to choose!
Can u explain the curse show on paramount plz
it is so confusing to me when poor things and barbie nominated for oscars, while one is the marterpiece other one is overrated garbage.
Maybe some people don’t love to watch sex scenes for 30 minutes? And the comedy was better in Barbie than here
Both are overrated garbage imo
this movie was about feminist
I just saw it last night. Its impossible to find the right adjectives. Far above average. See it!
I agree - too many liaisons. I kept thinking, "OK, not get on with her evolution." I also wanted God's brain put into her husband's body.
*WAY* too much hype imo. Went in so excited and left feeling…..well, meh?
Cinematography was amazing no doubt, but story wise, I was just not all too impressed considering the buzz.
That's a shame! There was definitely hype about it, but it actually surprised me to be honest!
Moreau, Zola's Gay Ninties novels about proper hypocritical upper classes and prostitutes; Metropolis and the literary genre of the picaresque in Voltaire's Candide.
sex = life (??) …How old was the man who wrote the plot? 14?
This movie owes a lot to ORLANDO (1992) and BRAM STOKER’S DRACULA (1992). You won’t find it so original after watching all three. Poor Things has gratuitous sex and corny CGI critters. The ending was awful.
poor things is based off a book that came out in 1992
Why did Bella talk abut herself in the third person? Children don't do that.
Love it
Same here!
I thought it sucked.
Great Film - excellent analysis. I will See it for the second time at the cinema.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video!
Um this movie was absolutely unwatchable and uncomfortable. Don’t forget that this woman has a brain of a baby in a fully grown woman. Plus this movie is trying to be so many things at once. It’s a no
Yeah, you definitely would hate Dogtooth

I think it can be applied to every character in the film. Depending on their situation, everyone suffers, which is a part of life.
