Redragon Gainer M656 Budget Gaming Mouse for $20

- For this video I'm checking out a mouse one of you requested. The @redragonkeyboard Gainer M656 Mouse. This wireless mouse uses a USB receiver, and requires you to provide 1 AA battery. On the mouse it has a standard scroll wheel, and behind that there are two buttons that out of the box control the "DPI" (how sensitive or how fast the mouse moves). Then on the left side of the mouse there are two thumb buttons that are programable to whatever you'd like but start as forward and back arrow keys. On the bottom of the mouse you have a storage slot for your USB receiver when not in use, the access door for the battery, and a switch that controls the mouse modes, "Off", "Eco", & "ON" (On turns on the lights). throughout the video I compared it to my first Redragon mouse the M801 Sniper Pro that cost 2X as much as the Gainer. The Gainer is slightly longer and more narrow, and also features a more agronomical design that rotates your hand slightly to help prevent things like carpal tunnel. Over all they have very similar weight.
Using the Redragon M656 App, you can change your DPI, sensitivity settings, Polling rates, as well as re-program what every button on the mouse.
When I did testing in gaming, I was able to get the same times on a game proving that this $20 mouse can easily keep up with another mouse that costs 2X as much.
Thanks Fabian Reyes for the video request/suggestion.

i got this mouse a few weeks ago, and it is actually a very nice sturdy piece considering it was $20! i switched the switches to kaihl silent switches and i feel like i'm using my modded 502 hero. minus the extra functions, i'm slap happy
That's awesome! I would have never thought of that
2:50 i came to this review after having bought the mouse. i never noticed there was film lmao! feels much better lol. thanks for including that in the video
Haha yeah, don't know why they put it there. I've never seen a mouse like that before
Oh sí, justo lo que estaba esperando! 😃
Thanks for the video suggestion
Very nice review!
I ordered the wired version to try the shape, then will order the wireless eventually coz it's not available locally. Wired version is also interesting to modify coz it is cheap($9). I will probably do something like upgrade the switches to Kailh GM 8.0, cable upgrade(paracord), and do some weight reduction.
Awesome! Sounds like fun!
I have received and now using my wired Gainer. I really love the shape and feel. Feels similar to my Razer Basilisk X except for the right mouse button and the scroll wheel. A simplier version of the Logitech G502. I like the design and its simplicity. It's purely basic and has no software. However, the dpi level resets to 800 dpi everytime I restart/turn on the pc. I use 3200 dpi so I need to press the dpi button 3 times everytime I boot the pc. I assume this has no on-board memory. How about the wireless version?
Actually I think in the app you can default it to 3200.
How do I program the left side buttons so that one is for the Escape Key and the other is for the F3 function key? I've downloaded the mouse software and installed but the menu has me confused and the instructions are pretty vague. Amazon listing said it was programmable
How to program the keys on your Redragon Gainer M656 Mouse #redragon @redragonkeyboard #tutorial
Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I just uploaded a short tutorial for this!
@@GrantButler all good - thank you so much!
I know its late but plz help. I just bought this mouse today and when i launch the software it says “The mouse is offline. Please move or power on the mouse”. Even though it is connected and working. I just wanna increase the polling rate help😢
Make sure you downloaded the right one. They have a few with similar looks & names
i got a wired one (m610) maybe like 2 months ago for 10 bucks new and its actually really good, the main downside is that its really heavy.
I personally prefer a little weight in mine, but I definitely understand the desire for light weight when it comes to gaming
@@GrantButler me too i guess, also forgot to mention that the scroll wheel is kinda hard to click
@@Seniken weird
Can I adjust the dpi buttons to a specific key on a keyboard?
I don't think so
the scrolling function of the middle button is working but its unresponsive when pressing on it(normally it opens or closes a tab or folder when pressed), i havent downloaded the mouse program before and i have just downloaded it and clicked on restore but it didnt solve it, does anyone know how to fix this please?
Jump to about 6:00 and that section will show you how to reprogram that button
@@GrantButler the scroll button is set to middle button and i tried to reset it but still didnt work, any idea?
Hey Brother, I need to say, that i thought you did already ordered it before my suggestion, not becasue of it; so i really appreciate that you do something like that, thousand thanks for that. Anyway, excuse me for be molest, but i have yet this questions:
1. Redragon claims using a basic Pixart 3104 sensor - I have seen that if you select in any game a couple horizontal references points (A point - B point), and you move horizontally the mouse, first slowly and then faster from A to B or vice versa, a good sensor didn't change the distance you move, but a lower sensor change ingame the traveled distance between the point, sometimes shorter or longer. Can you test this with this Gainer please?
2. Some mice, use to show a rare movement, or even a miss of movement, when you are "flicking" it fast; this mpuse claims to support a 15G movement. I have 2 cheap chinesse wireless mice (obviously none supoort even a joke XD) , one of them when i move fast, sometimes send the view faster anywhere, up, down sides or whatever it wants really fast, but not to the place i have moved the mouse, and the other, just sometimes miss the movement, it just stays there like if you didn't make any... have you tried if this Gainer present any of this behaviours?
3. Another rare thing that has some mice, is like a "gosthing" when you use fast click the left/right button for example, when i use right click to use the weapon's sight and almost inmediatly y click the right button to shoot.. the mouse just miss the right click, like if you haven't used the button... can you try this on your gainer please?
3. About battery lasting, have you noticed any difference in the performance of the mouse (liek latency), using it in ECO mode, or if the battery last too less when using it in the normal mode? Same when using the lowest polling rate, and the maximum?
4. Did it has internal memory for record the mouse config?
I am really sorry about all this questions, but thanks if you can test at least any of this features, may be I am been too impolite asking so much, much more a cheap entering level gaming mouse, but well, for some of Us, even 20USD, means a considerable money to invest.
Thanks again and have a wonderful day!. And bye, I'll play World War 3 a shooter free game with precious graphics and wonderful gunplay.
Ok so I'm still trying to figure it out, but when you turn off "Improve pointer precision" the mouse movement is the same regardless of if your moving fast or slow.
I haven't been able to get it to miss movement when I "flick" the mouse as much as I could.
As for the clicking, I wouldn't say that it was prefect testing, but what testing I did do on it, there weren't any "ghosting" issues.
On the Latency, I wouldn't say that I'm a avid enough gamer to say that I even notice a difference in latency between any of the settings.
Lastly, when you program the mouse on one PC, if you plug it into another, the presets will carry over with the mouse, so you don't need to set it up again with each new computer.
Does that answer all of the questions?
i have this and its a pain to use for desktop with the base dpi, its great in game, but desktop use is so stuttery
Thanks for sharing
what's the weight like? it looks heavy.
It's not "Ultra light" but it is light at 5.3 ounces (150 grams). It's definitely lighter than the mouse I use regularly
@@GrantButler I appreciate the response, that's much too heavy for me.
@@GrantButler is the scroll wheel light glow cuz mine does not work or not turned on
@SuperiorKevin it does not, it looks like it should, but it doesn't light up.
Is the click silent?
No
It sounds like 7 jet engines.
How do i turn on the scrolling light
Isn't there an eco mode switch on thr bottom?
no that turns it off@@GrantButler
how do i turn on the wheel plz answer@@GrantButler

@@Bruhman_1 I don't think it does turn on
