Sooooo coool. I was at this show, remember it like it was yesterday. I saw them in Berkeley at a punk house or co-op or something. That was a great show too. Sometimes Im glad to be old.
I was also at the Berkeley show! It was a dorm house, I think??. The kids put a bunch of wooden platform beds together to make a stage. Lois played too. I wish I could remember the opening band. They were great.
@@teamlealportland yooo I was at that too. It was Stebbins Co-Op on northside. I only remember the name because my buddy lived there. Definitely remember the makeshift stage and I think this was the night they played "Escort Crash on the I-5" which was so renamed because they almost ate it driving on the 5 through the night!
@@os_mutante1414 I was also at that Stebbins Co-Op show. I was living in an apartment on the corner of Dwight Way and College Ave at the time. It's nice to see that Heavenly fans from back then are still Heavenly fans today.
@@davemackenzie9011 they're playing a few reunion shows in support of the reissues! did two shows in London last year and doing two in NYC at the end of May
good god, i was just thinking about heavenly from this period, trying to remember when they played the bay area. i forgot i had gone to this show!!! wow! never thought it'd be on youtube! thanks for resurrecting this footage.
I loved the indie music of the 90s... the electronica of the 80's got bucked, and it was back to epic analogue. Now we're treating computers like band members... arrg.
I saw Heavenly about a year before this show, at The Garage in London on the 28th October 1993 (thanks internet, for help with the date!), where they were main support to Lois on her UK tour. (Meredith was second support and Delicate Vomit opened the show). It was my first opportunity to see Heavenly, having became a fan after hearing their first John Peel session in 1991. I was also interested in drumming, but had never played the drums by that point, so naturally I was drawn to Mathew Fletcher's speedy drumming on some of Heavenly's songs, and the fact that he could hold a lit cigarette between his lips with all this movement and not drop it. I loved it!

Now they just edm and rappers at the school. Nothing for sub-rock kids

Sailing out across the quiet sea
Saying that your ship is much too small for me
Sailing to where you may be happy
Off to where you're out of reach
Left your lifebelt on the beach
Off to where you'll be so calm
Far from harm
Starshy, shy, shy, shy
I turned to talk to you last night
But your star's shining so bright
Starshy, shy, shy, shy
It's hard to sleep when you shine down
It's hard to speak without sound
Sailing back across the stormy sea
Saying that you've never been so lonely
Sailing back to where you may be happy
Lost your compass, lost your map
Lost your way, there's no way back
Giant wave on Orkney Sound
Lost, not found
Angels taking you from me
Taking you high, as a star and friend

People say she's bad
But they don't see
The way she is with me
P is for the painful way she makes me feel some day
U is for Utopia, the other times with her
N is for the new wave dreams she had back in her teens
K is for the kid in her, my PUNK girl
She is honest and kind but in a way that people see
As telling lies and being mean
She has thousands of dreams but what they are I'll never know
I hope I figure in them though
I don't care if they can't see
Just how great that girl can be
But I wish, she'd find a way
To act well, for just one day
I don't mind if they can't see
Just how much she means to me
I still know what I will say
If that girl comes my way
P is for the painful way she makes me feel some day
U is for Utopia, the other times with her
N is for the new wave dreams she had back in her teens
K is for the kid in her, my PUNK girl
She is hardened to hurt her softness hidden from the world
But almost ready to unfurl
She tries so hard to change but something always happens to
Persuade her it's too hard to do
I don't care if they can't see
Just how great that girl can be
But I wish, she'd find a way
To act well, for just one day
I don't mind if they can't see
Just how much she means to me
I still know what I will say
If that girl comes my way
P is for the painful way she makes me feel some day
U is for Utopia, the other times with her
N is for the new wave dreams she had back in her teens
K is for the kid in her, my PUNK girl
Painful way
Utopia
New wave dreams
Kid in her
PUNK girl!

When I wake up on Monday
I don't know why I ever let you stay
Not a night to remember
I think you'd better be gone by Tuesday
You'll be sad when I tell you
But you have got to go so
Don't cry I know you can take it
Your heart I never could break it
I just want to wake up alone
Im not the same girl that you once knew
Cos now I know what I have to do
So brace yourself for a big surprise
There's malicious intent in my eyes
I've started counting the days with you
And the hours and the hours and minutes too
Don't try to win me with your charm
It'll only... do you harm
When I wake up on Tuesday
I can't believe that I let you get your way
You smile while you're sleeping
I feel sick that I was such a weakling
But this time I mean it
You are gonna go, so
Don't cry you'll find another
Or go stay with your mother
I just wanna wake up alone
This was wonderful. Thank you.
I love Heavenly!!! they’re supposed to be playing later this year in London, but I live in Canada so I probably won’t be able to see them
