I remember my house used to have 2 of those old firex alarms. They worked and made noise but they sounded very distorted. They were hardwired but the interconnected function did not work.
evan, this is just the defect model just about every one of these style alarms were defective ones from the 70, 80, 90s etc are usually faster at detecting smoke than even the best modern ones from my own testing also in addition smoke alarms that need to be replaced every 10 years is just a gimmic developed by BRK electronics in 1997 with the release of the sa10yr and prior to that most smoke alarms could theoretically could last the half life of americium (about 455 years) or untill a hardware problem
Looks like the newer one's hardwire signals was not compatible with the older alarm, or the piezo horn burnt out. so you will need to buy another compatible Kidde alarm. We have replaced nearly perfectly working old FireX detectors that just turned 20 due to a possible bug crawling in one of them or dust build up. Now, they are being held on for a future project. I have seen alarms lasting as almost as 40 years still detecting smoke and sounding as it should.
After rennovating a couple houses, there were about 18 or so of these that went to the dump along with the outdated ceiling fans, cabinets, carpet, etc
@@KevinLyons-gn7eu It was ripped out by the previous owner before we moved in. No clue what was there before. Yeah I definitely think the 4/6 and 5/6 piezos were more effective than code 3. Moreso, the old AC buzzers and DC squeelers were shrill and sure to wake you up. They never should’ve done away with them
I had the same exact problem with my detectors. My basement one still does it, and mine were alays continous and still are. Am I the only one with continuous?
The smoke alarms that u were testing i have in my house, one started dying when i made toast and when it went off it was a dead noise and i looked at it and saw it was going off thise smoke alarms are very old which cause them to easily die.
We had these exact alarms. (The ones that did not work.) Ours still worked, but probably were close to failing. I replaced them with First Alert 3120b dual sensor.
These FireX AD smoke alarms are known to have the horns maulfunction. My Grandmother has ADC’s in her house that look exactly like these. I wonder if they even work although I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t work. I did tell her that she needed to get her smoke alarms replaced and that they should be replaced every 10 years
The old alarms in your house are made by the company firex and their model number is adc. These things are known for having a bad issue with the horn that is probably why they don’t work. I recommend you replacing them with first alert brand smoke alarms.
i had a neighbor that threw away like 5 of those and 5 of the 120 volt only ones. they left the battery in them so the battery ones went off all night. they are the identical model. one suggestion is take them apart and bend the prongs back up to the horn
I have these same FireX and they are acting just like these and every room has the same one and we cant get them off the wall so they are stuck on the wall but when i test it it will bleep normally but when there is a actual smoke it does the same thing as the one in the video, this is a common problem with them.
There might be a tamper tab on them that you need to insert a small, usually flat headed screwdriver, to release it. I don't recall for sure on that base but look around for a slot.
i mean, technically speaking, if you somehow replace the chamber and sounder, you could just use the same alarm over and over. that might actually be better
Cool video and I have these alarms in my house......... but hay at least I replaced the alarm in my room and in one of the hallway and the two are carbon monoxide.
Because so people think the code is stupid which I think it is because I have a 2007 smoke alarm that works just fine. In fact it works just like new out of the box detect smoke and everything. So it’s stupid while they see the place every 10 years when fire alarms don’t need to be replaced every 10 years or smoke detectors that are commercial buildings.
I did a video on it, but took it down after some unfortunate business practices from the company that sent them to me, which I will not name. In my current house, I have a First Alert BRK 7010B. We had ionization based detectors in the house, but I wanted photo electric for the one near the kitchen due to false alarms.
These old FireX detectors need to be replaced right now. smoke detectors need to be replaced when they are 10 years old. these old firex detectors are just way too old to be installed. plus the broken horns on those makes those way too unsafe to be installed. it doesn't surprise me on the fact the horns on those are broken. because they're old.
My smoke alarms drove me insane with chirping. Yes, I installed new 9v battery etc. In the end, I just cut the speaker wires. Job done. The best smoke detector is your fucking nose.

@theshedproductions. At the very least, it does empathize periodically checking your alarms, though.
