Great ideas and inspiration for trike builders! There are hubs available with 15 mm thru holes or you can use hubs from an old wheel chair if you don't need disc brakes.

Very nice video, and very instructional. You seem to be making a habit of not installing front brakes ;) Be safe and enjoy the ride.

That's a neat idea, and they're never going to unwind and fall off either.

Thanks Tinny this really helped a lot. I have a couple Atomic Zombie books. They are full of great info. I was considering making my own hubs like he shows in the book but this looks way easier and works way better than anything I could have manufactured.

Bike building looks fun :) Especially for a mechanical engineer. I mountain bike, but maybe a recumbent bike would be cool too!

Good work. Try making some fabric spoke covers for the wheels, it should cut the wind resistance a fair amounf.

Tinny have you thought about getting a quality pair or set of rims for the trike. shaving weight of the wheels of a bike makes the bike fell way lighter then taking weight of the frame... if you Google the term 'rotating mass bike wheels' the first result explains it allot better then i can.

hi. thanks for the vid. i am building a tadpole trike cart. "cart" meaning with no drivetrain.... no pedals, gears, chains, etc.
this tadpole doesnt need to be able to see the off-road.
which hub from choppers US did you get? there are different ones that look similar. also, should i get the same as you?
i do not plan to bother with disc brakes.

I don't think AZ is what it used to be.. Kind of sad really.. I think I'll pass on their selling plans and ideas, and they don't sell parts anymore, so they're basically worthless to me. Anything I need to know to build a trike is right here on youtube.

Tinny have you thought about making it a 29" wheel?

Yes I think 14mm would be OK if they are made of good quality steel

Just look to successful production designs for your answer. ICE Trikes use 12mm.

Side loads or axial loads are much greater on trikes than mountain bikes....hope your not going fast ....brakes are very necessary at high speed....and more so on trikes than bikes

This guy makes his out of styrene:
    h t t p : / / w w w . biketcba. org / TRICORR/ projects/ disks/ covers. html
Remove the spaces I put in.
I've seen velomobile videos that seemed to have spandex covered foam disks. You can probably find some info on those on line.
