First of all thank you the tutorial is awesome. One question, i'm trying to animate the pancake but the texture doesn't move with the pancake, i suppose is because of the "World" mode. Any tip or something? Thank's
Dani Burton just to clarify, does the texture chang every frame that your package moves? To fix that, look into the bake texture tag. I'm planning on doing a follow up tutorial that dives into this subject.
This is what happens vimeo.com/214890631 I'll already try to solve this changin the mode from World to Object, Camera, Texture.. and nothing... also with the tag "Stick Texture" but nop.
That's exactly what I was expecting. You would have to go back to change all the different noise layers to texture instead of world. All of them... but then you can't get the uniquely textured objects when you drag them in the world. So, if you bake the textures on each of the pancakes, create a new material and port in the jpg/psd files it creates, you have unique pancakes that will now properly animate in the world.
Yeess!! Thank you so much dude. Now i can fix two projects with the same problem. The tutorial about it is a great idea because i found people with the same problem on forums and no one knows how to solve it, maybe it sounds ridiculous to you, but everyone was like "add the tag stick texture"
I usually don't like to watch more than 15 minutes long tutorials but this one kept me focused till the very last second. Very interesting and useful ! Thanks for your work.
I've been searching for a texture mixing tutorial in Cinema 4D for a while. Nothing taught me more than this video. You should do more of that. Thanks for the awesome tutorial man!
I made a few pancakes a little while ago, and found they benefited from SSS. Without it, they seemed solid with shadows that moved towards grey. With it, they were warmer and looked lighter and fluffier.
From following you on Instagram to finding you on UA-cam has made my day. Please do continue to share your techniques with the 3D community. I really like this walk through format tutorial please make more. Would like to see how you make your "wooden" textures. Look forward to the next one.
As long as you're focusing on procedural textures, you might consider some of Photoshop's adjustment layers which are also procedural. A gradient layer, for instance, would allow you to edit the gradient on the fly. Switching your color mode from 8 bit to 16, or even better 32, will cancel out the banding. It will start to come back as you reduce the bits, but will be nowhere near as harsh.
Awesome! The level of texturing you had done there was brilliant! I could easily say that this tutorial taught me a whole lot of texturing (which I have been trying to comprehend for the past few months) Thanks for that! And quick question, why didn't you use AO in the render settings?
thanks for sharing ur workflow, I found it amazing. such inspirational, never composited a texture with more than 4 or 5 layers and i didnT know fussion exists ! BRAVO
You can create them with Cinema's built in shaders, then bake the textures when you're done for Octane. I'm planning on doing a follow up tutorial with this info, but it's fairly straight forward that you may be able to do it yourself.
Wow Rick, this was such a great tutorial, clear, concise and so dense with detail/techniques, congratulations! Amazing, please make more!! I would happily pay a Patreon for more tutorials from you!!!
I don't know why, but my render spent a lot of time 20h.... God... this is much time.... My PC is Intel i7 - 4510U, 12Gb DDR3, NVIDIA Geforce 820M With 2Gb Dedicated.... ... but the final result is Awesome. Thanks for share your knowledge
I think I know the answer. You are rendering in Progressive. Progressive Mode (click on the tiny black triangle next to "Sampler") is in "infinite" by default. Progressive will be rendering until you stop it, or you can set a limited pass count number, so when it reaches that count it will stop. You can even set it to "Time limit", where after 10 minutes (or whatever you input there) the render will stop.
love your tutorials. Can you plz make a tutorial on rendering a whiskey bottle with labels and post retouching for advertising. looking for a complete tutorial from a long time but didn't get any. Hope to hear from you soon. looking forward for it.
Dude! This is awesome! Love your workflow. I'm wondering how you use Substance Painter and Zbrush? I haven't found a way to integrate them yet. Would love to see more, great tutorial. Sharing it now ;)
Craig Pinto thanks, Craig! I'm still learning substance painter, but I typically use it for creating complex textures with specific details, ie. edges of a mesh with signs of wear. I sculpt as a hobby, so I like Zbrush for creating faces or other organic elements.
Wow! This is amazing! But I can't follow the next steps as I have a problem. Whenever I change the projection mapping to "cylindrical" even I render it, that kind of "star shape" or "windmill" of the top is always there... can you help me, please? thanks for the tutorial!
aw man iw as looking for a project file to buy ;/ I use vray c4d but since the textures were made in photoshop they'd render twice as nice if they came out of standard render like this!
Hey Rick, btw, could you use something like Keycastr, or similar, to show which shortcuts you’re using while you’re recording the video? It might help more of us to follow what you’re showing. ✌️ github.com/sdeken/keycastr
Beginner here. Great tutorial. But I have a question. I wanted to animate the pancake. Now, the texture doesn't move with the object like expected with the 'world' mode. But how do I change it back? Even if I put it back to 'texture' it doesn't work? What am I doing wrong haha? :D
If you right-click on the object, there is a Bake Texture tag. You can use that to create individual textures that are no longer procedural, but rasterized instead. The issue you're facing leaving it procedural is that C4D is constantly generating the noise patterns. Baking it stops that.
i dont ever use world space as it will not work for animations that being said i dont know why i dont use this for stills its a great way to reuse the same materials but without the tile problems :)
The Cinema noises don't tile because they operate in 3d space. However, if you set your texture space to object or texture and apply it to multiple objects, you will have the same looking texture across multiple objects. One way to avoid it is to duplicate the texture and change all the seed values in your noises.
It's part of an unreleased HDRI pack from GSG. It was available with HDRI link for the first week of its release. There was thought about releasing it to everyone, but that hasn't happened yet.
I currently use Cycles 4d to render scenes, but it's material system doesn't have enough noise options to create something like this. Actually, I would recommend looking into purchase Substance Designer & Painter. I use them for all my texturing and they are superior tools.
hey this might be off topic but do you have any idea how to do something like this? instagram.com/p/BSj7B1LFKfD/?hl=en how did he make the splines float, rotate, move, and use dynamics bouncing off each other?
I'm guessing it has something to do with the tutorial below. Without testing anything, I'm think there was a high-poly sweep (red tube) that's being controlled by the dynamics of the low-poly sweep (invisible). Add a few effectors to the scene (turbulence, wind, etc) and hit play. Another way, although it will probably be very glitch prone, would be to add spline dynamics to the spline of the sweep and increase the border of the spline dynamics (creating an invisible barrier) to the same size as the tube. greyscalegorilla.com/tutorials/how-to-make-a-low-poly-mesh-for-softbody-dynamic-effects/
I can't wait to eat! hey can you put some honey on it using realflow please it will make pancake more tasty and yummy... )) Keep cooking...)) gr8 tutorial chef.

Nice tutorial man! Manually changing the random seeds is one way to do it, not the most elegant but.. :)
I usually don't like to watch more than 15 minutes long tutorials but this one kept me focused till the very last second. Very interesting and useful ! Thanks for your work.
Awesome! I tried to make it about 15 minutes, but there was too much stuff to cover!
I made these pancakes 7 years ago. Found it today cleaning up on my hard drive. Still looks good
Love it!
I've been searching for a texture mixing tutorial in Cinema 4D for a while. Nothing taught me more than this video.
You should do more of that.
Thanks for the awesome tutorial man!
João Luís Paes Wow, thanks so much for the feedback! I'm glad you learned something from it.
can you PLEASE continue uploading tutorials ? you cannot stop man
I made a few pancakes a little while ago, and found they benefited from SSS. Without it, they seemed solid with shadows that moved towards grey. With it, they were warmer and looked lighter and fluffier.

Thanks, +Hieran Chauhan ! I purchased the wood texture online somewhere.

That was insanely good and informative. Thanks for taking the time to do the tutorial.
+Lee Przytula My pleasure. Thanks for watching!
Nice hair Johnny. Great tutorial and I've learnt a lot. The audio change was so drastic. ;)
Lundskow! This was a pleasant surprise, seeing your tutorial on UA-cam.
Was an avid follower of you food series on IG. Thanks a ton for this!
Thanks, man! I got a lot of requests for it and I finally got around to making it.
Awesome! The level of texturing you had done there was brilliant! I could easily say that this tutorial taught me a whole lot of texturing (which I have been trying to comprehend for the past few months) Thanks for that!
And quick question, why didn't you use AO in the render settings?
It takes longer to render and I personally don't like the look of it combined with Global Illumination. 100% personal preference.
thanks for sharing ur workflow, I found it amazing. such inspirational, never composited a texture with more than 4 or 5 layers and i didnT know fussion exists ! BRAVO

Did you follow the render settings the way I have them set? I'm pretty sure my specs are lower than that and it renders much faster.
I think I know the answer. You are rendering in Progressive. Progressive Mode (click on the tiny black triangle next to "Sampler") is in "infinite" by default. Progressive will be rendering until you stop it, or you can set a limited pass count number, so when it reaches that count it will stop.

I'll have to check that out. Thanks for the link.
great tutorial man,
taquitr thanks so much!
Excellent tut. I find doing food in 3D very challenging. Have you used subsurface scattering? Subscribed.
Thanks, Steve. I have used SSS, but it takes quite a while to render with physical. I usually use Corona's translucency to a achieve a similar effect.
Nice tutorial!
who can I buy the completed project file from
I never made the file available for download, and I don't think I have the file on my computer anymore. Sorry about that!
Great tutorial. I've learned a lot. Thank you.
great tut!!! thank you

nice one. keep it up mate!
Hope that your channel will grow fast with tutorials ike this one! You will need Just a better mic for the podcast part..
Thanks man!!
Yup, as noted in the description it was very sub-par; however, I purchased a higher quality one that should work out great.
c4d and photoshop are same photos?
great great great!!
wowww!!¡ great work
Thanks, Galo!
