Solent Ships is operated from Town Quay, the Old Town quarter of Southampton, where the Mayflower departed 400 years ago.
Utilising various cameras our small crew are dedicated in providing a window onto our historic waterfront in the Solent region. The ‘Captain’ of our crew is a licenced drone pilot and day skipper, with an added passion for photography.
This channel has a large library of drone footage, documenting (with commentary) the various vessels that sail by one of the busiest Ports in the UK. At Solent Ships, you can also access 24 hour live streaming video of the day-to-day movements of all shapes and sizes of marine traffic, an ever-changing view that is enjoyed by cruise ship enthusiasts and water watchers worldwide.

Brilliant. Reminds me of the Clyde steamers racing to each pier in the days of old. First there grabbed all the passengers and therefore more sales in the bar as it was the only place you could get a drink on a Sunday if you were a bonafide passenger.

More overtaking than formula one as well shipmate
It reminds me of the well documented "Race to the North" in the days of steam between the LNER and LMS. LNER was the victor because of many things, however the superior engine motive motor power and track geometry that won the day.. (The LMS being noted by many as one long reverse curve for a considerable distance) The outcome was a gentlemens agreement as things were getting - shall we say "cut throat" with speed and safety. IOW Ferries - technology verses reliability verses operating proformence is a mute point in many ways..

I didn't realise Wightlink did the Southampton-Cowes run. That container ship doesn't look as if she can see where it is going over the containers.

Hopefully a couple of weeks for the cameras shipmate, it is coming, just slowly. Think the Victoria of Wight was just in for repairs.

Captain is correct- Victoria of Wight is Wightlink’s flagship and usually does the Portsmouth to Fishbourne route. She generally runs throughout day and night (I think) and has been in for repair at least two weeks now. I’ve not seen her back yet (Southsea resident).
Ahoy Captain. Thought the commentary sounded very professional. They should employ you on the sports channels. But why was Whitelink using Southampton? I'm guessing for repairs or something?

I wouldn't use Wightstink if YOU paid me. Red Funnel any and every day. The staff are better. The food is better. The cost...I have no idea what the difference is now, I haven't used Wightstink in over 20 years and have no intention of doing so again. So as far as I am concerned...Red Funnel are the WINNERS, each day and every day.
It depends on whether you want to go to Cowes or Ryde. Wightlink has the advantage in that the train goes to Portsmouth Harbour Station and you only have to walk down a ramp to get on the ferry. Also, now that the D78s, well, 484s, are running, there's a train waiting for you at Ryde Pier Head. Also, trains go to Lymington Pier so you can get straight on the ferry if you're going to West Wight.
I know that there's a shuttle bus between Southampton central Station and the Red Funnel terminal, but it's not as convenient as going directly from train to ferry. (Don't mention the Hovercraft!)
Maybe I should undertake a comprehensive review of the local operators shipmate

@@ronfisher2-railwaytravelvideos I am not interested in a train, that's why I have a car. It's the Red Funnel Fast Cat that goes to Cowes. The Red Funnel Car Ferry goes to East Cowes.
The Wightstink cat goes from Portsmouth to Ryde and their car ferry goes from Portsmouth to Fishbourne.
@@SolentShips The Hovercraft is an excellent service, which I have used on many occasions when I don't wish to take the car. VERY polite and friendly staff.
