You have his title wrong, as the world record holder in the decathlon his official title is “The Greatest Athlete of All Time”.

People think Lebron is the best athlete in the world... what a joke. He would be obliterated in the decathlon. Russell Westbrook would have been interesting considering his body type is perfect for the decathlon. However Ashton Eaton is undoubtably the greatest athlete on the planet as proven by the greatest athletic feat on the planet.
    There. Done. Tell your friends.

But lebron would dominate ashton eaton in most ball sports.......

which require hand eye coordination, reaction speed, size, strength, etc. (all of which i think should be included when handing out the title of "greatest athlete")

Lebron would no doubt easily defeat Ashton in a sport like football or basketball, just as Ashton would easily defeat Lebron in the 400m or the pole vault. Basketball is a sport that is far more reliant on skill than athleticism. Steph Curry is a top 5 player on the planet. Is he more athletic than Andre Robertson? No chance. Athleticism is about a bevy of factors including strength and size, which Lebron has in spades, especially for someone of his size. But it also encompasses endurance, speed, upper body strength to weight ratio, and so on. The decathlon is about boiling these factors down to their lowest form. Lebron could never have been a world class hurdler mile runner. He's just too big. Ashton very well could have played about any sport he wanted. It would be very easy to see him as an NBA point guard or a wide receiver. He chose the decathlon because that's what he was best at, just like I'm sure Lebron would have if had Ashton's ability.

Josephus 33 I disagree that ashton could “very well” have played any sport he wanted at the highest level (like in your nba point guard example). Sports like basketball require the ability to react and adapt to what opponents are doing. This is something Eaton has not demonstrated and he “very well” could be terrible at it. Track and field is different than basketball or football in that conditions are almost exactly the same. In basketball, no two plays are exactly the same (different opponents, slightly different positioning etc). So yes, Eaton has proven himself in tests such as the high jump in which he has perfected his form. But can he adapt mid air and switch his dunk into a reverse layup? I’m not sure.
My point is, on paper, the decathlon is the best way to measure athleticism. But I don’t define athleticism by simply how high you can jump and how fast you can run. I take into account reactions, hand eye coordination, etc.

Sometimes the simplest tips are the most important. Often we forget them so it’s nice to see a great athlete focused on the fundamentals.
