    Just installed my new Monza cap. That is a beautifully machined part. And so much better without having to find a place to put my loose cap when filling up the tank.

      Good choice Roger, they look nice and are very practical too! just read through the comments below as some people seem to have run into difficulties with this install. just bear in mind that the whole cap is designed to turn on the collar if enough force is applied, to prevent the mount from being unscrewed, this is to prevent people from stealing it and is not a fault!

    • @devasurfer
      @devasurfer 6 років тому +1

      Hi Stuart. Thanks for the extra explanation. Another good reason for this cap in Thailand is that the attendants still fill the bike for you like the good old days back home. The problem is potential damage to the paintwork if I'm not in control :)

    • @stuartfillingham
      @stuartfillingham  6 років тому

      Hi Roger yes i see your point and logic there! its easy enough to scratch paint when your being careful so i can imagine petrol attendants would make short work of it. one last thing, there is a large thin O ring in the kit! you dont need it for this install its for fitting to a different bike!

    • @devasurfer
      @devasurfer 6 років тому +1

      Hi Stuart. Just fitted. Very simple to do. Glad you told me to use the gasket rather than the thin O ring as the instructions say to discard the gasket and use the O ring?! This would leave the assembly loose so good advice. The TEC progressive fork springs next.....

      I would be very interested Stuart if in the autumn you might consider doing a summary assessment of all the extras you've fitted and how you've got on with them for a few months? I want to but a couple for my T120 but not all, and would love to know how you have found living / riding with them on a day to day basis? Just a thought sir. This video does clearly highlight the lovely quality and fit of the cap - thoroughly enjoyable as always.

    Cheers from the u.s. Great video as always. It is funny though that a big complaint about the previous bonneville models was that they didn't have a lockable fuel cap. Every video seemed to complain about that and I always thought that was weird as I never had a bike with a lockable cap. Apparently triumph listened and added one to the new models and now people are putting on unlockable after market caps. Can't please everybody :)

    • @stuartfillingham
      @stuartfillingham  7 років тому +1

      Yeah bless em Triumph just cant win can they. I suppose it depends how you use the bike and whether you leave it unattended for long periods in risky areas. though to be fair their version of a lockable fuel cap is quite infuriating!

    Great video Stu. Motone make amazingly crafted products. I did toy with the idea of fitting the brass monza cap to my 2020 Battle Green Bullet 500 but that wouldn't have worked at all. It would be a bit like fitting a gold turret to a Sherman tank! Nah! lol Their spun brass screw in version really compliments the military 500 though. A totally different story with your Classic chrome Bullet though and the Triumph here. The Monza cap works perfectly with these bikes and the brass version also works beautifully with the last of the line Tribute Black Bullet 500's too.
    It's all about the 'wow factor' imo. You compliment the look of the machine, without anyone really noticing what you've done 🤠😬

    Thanks Stuart, informative as always. I plan to fit one of these to my 900 Thunderbird and note that this particular model is the only one supplied by our local cafe racer shop. Obviously they've done their homework as well and chosen the best. You note that the cap sits quite high and this reminds me that the reason this style of cap went out of usage was because of the number of motorcyclists suffering traumatic castration after a head-on crash and sliding up the tank... I'm not planning to crash my T'Bird!

    Morning Stuart, after following the video instructions, the whole cap was turning, i thought i was unscrewing the cap when infact i unscrewed the small stainless steel nut in the lid, which then doped off into the tank. I had tighten the 3 small grub screws. When the cap was on the tank, the filling whole was not centered with the cap, it was just off center !!.
    You made it look so easy, and i am sure it is !! i will get it sorted. Love all your bloggs

    • @stuartfillingham7011
      @stuartfillingham7011 7 років тому +1

      Graham Evans hi graham the cap does not centre due to the wierd way triumph have arranged the nozzle hole. But dont worry it doesnt affect filling the tank. The collar is designed to still spin although it would require a little force to do so. This is to prevent sticky fingers removing your cap while your away from the bike. Perhaps i should have mentioned that. Sorry for any confusion! Re the nut im presuming you closed the cap when you were turning the assembly?

    • @Grazzi46
      @Grazzi46 7 років тому +1

      Hi Graham really glad you got it sorted mate. I try to make things as clear and easy as I can, but its always a battle against the time available with these videos. I should have mentioned it is designed to move so it cant be stolen easily! sorry!

    Unfortunate update: I ordered one and installed it with no problem. However the first time I went to fuel it all of the pieces came flying out as soon as I popped the top. The spring and all pieces in the top pressure plate part are held on by a nut. Apparently my nut must have wiggled off while riding and I believe it is now at the bottom of my gas tank. I never touched the nut and did no bouncing or rough riding. It was as it came from the factory out of the box. People might want to make sure the nut is tight or maybe put some of their own lock tight before they install it. I now have to drain and remove the tank and hope I can get the little nut out before it does damage to the engine. Just giving people a heads up of my experience.

    • @stuartfillingham
      @stuartfillingham  7 років тому

      It is a lock nut not sure how it could come undone by itself! did you tighten the cap in place with the cap closed and the special tool in place by any chance?

    • @musingswithmgl
      @musingswithmgl 7 років тому +1

      stuart fillingham no I installed exactly as you showed. Hand tightened it and then installed it with the tool. I followed your expert instructions. :) it's definitely in the tank as I have drained it and can see it. Coat hanger time.

    • @stuartfillingham
      @stuartfillingham  7 років тому

      Just been out and checked mine and its fine, maybe you were just unlucky and someone at the factory forgot to tighten it. have you reported it to motone?
      the only other way I can see that it would come loose (its an aircraft locking nut) is if the tool is left in place during fitting and the cap is closed and then turned several times. the tool would then unscrew it!

    • @musingswithmgl
      @musingswithmgl 7 років тому

      stuart fillingham who knows. I did tell them. Mine came from the American site and didn't have a large rubber o-ring like yours did either. Perhaps here they don't use a locking nut. When I fish it out I'll look at it.

    • @stuartfillingham
      @stuartfillingham  7 років тому

      Actually ive just checked the tool and its too big to engage the nut so it must be down to them not being tightened properly at the factory, really sorry I am a little embarrassed!

    I have just bought the brass Monza cap and when I downloaded the fitting instructions it says..
    "The top cap assembly (MNX002) comes bundled with this flat rubber gaskit on the inside. When combined with the components in NMX003 this particular gaskit is unnecessary and so can be removed from the kit".
    Stuart please please can you advise, I don't want to mess this up.. if I remove this gaskit and tighten down the screw in part NMX003 and it starts leaking miles away from home it may be difficult to refit this gaskit..

    Why wouldn't you just buy the Thruxton R, Speed Twin OEM Monza? It has a lower profile and isn't as bulky as this version. Triumph FUEL FILLER CAP, MONZA Part # T2400812
    I have been troubled to find the right version of this. I saw this on the new speed twin and I immediately saw how much less bulky it was. Both, the Thruxton and Speed Twin use the same exact model number. All I need to find now is the locking mechanism for it. So I will test my luck with an OEM part.

    Hello Stuart,
    We have watched several of your videos on You Tube, it's very interesting. We would like to buy a monza cap kit pour our 2016 Bonneville T120 on the Motone website (we have seen the Suan's link, reference on the website is NMX003+NMX002). Could you confirm us that the thread pitch will actually fit our tank ? Or could you send us the exact reference of the cap kit. Thanks in advance. Patrick.

    • @stuartfillingham
      @stuartfillingham  7 років тому

      Hi Patrick thanks for watching, yes I can confirm that that is the correct link and reference. the thread and pitch is the same for the current Bonneville models as it is for the older Hinckley Bonnevilles. so there will be no problem with fitting. If you require extra reassurance may I suggest you email Sam at motone through the contact us facility on their website, and just ask him to confirm it will fit your model. Just put "you tube review enquiry" as the subject and I'm sure he will respond quickly!
