This movie changed my life, went to summer camp to become a camp counselor, and through an advertisement in the counselor lounge, went to work at a ski resort. i met my wife of 25 years there and made my life what it is.
I saw this movie in the theater in 1979 when it came out on a Wednesday night. I loved it so much for the next 8 Wednesdays I took someone new to see it! This just may be my favorite comedy movie of all-time. I always tear up a bit when Rudy crosses the finish line. Bill Murray is great!!! "It just doesn't matter!"
These were the days. No one with a cellphone, no one taking a selfie, just kids at a summer camp. What a great movie. I even own a Camp Mohawk orange t-shirt irl!
@King Rottennoggin Yes your right. In the late 70's movies like Meatballs etc... kick started the feel good comedies of the 80's. Caddyshack was also filmed in 1979 and released in 1980. I was born in 78 and grew up with all these great films. I had Makin It by David Naughton on one of my K-tel albums that I wore out as a kid.
i know every middle aged person says this, but when i watch these old movies i say "ah gee, those were the good old days." we've lost a charming naivety over the years
Yes, there is something very sweet and nostalgic about this film without it being saccharine or sappy. The comedy and nostalgia mix very well in this wonderful film.
One of my very favorites. Reminds me of a simpler time, no internet, no iphones, no facebook ,you actually had to talk to one another, face to face, what a concept!
I agree-although a lot of people think Bill Murray is not attractive either, but I say his both his coolness and confidence are so overpowering that that it MAKES him attractive.
A lot of people never notice Spaz dancing in the background, because they're focusing on Bill Murray. Whenever I've shown this movie to people, I say look at Bill first, then rewind it and tell them to look at Spaz.

Tripper Spaz Crocket Wheels Hardware Fink Mickey.....oops I mean morty The stomach Jackie Hot Wendy A.L Roxanne Candace And the girl with the birth defect about dancing..... I love this song, it is so inspirational. It keeps the confidence running high. Who can be negative and listen to it? It's just plain awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!
At the very beginning of this clip, the Mohawk player wearing #13 is the kid who played Mark Ratner as the movie theater worker in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
These were the days, I tell my kids how they missed out growing up in the 70/80s ,they will never know the life without social media and how absolutely fantastic the eighties we're I'm glad I lived it! 3-13-73, love Bill Murray 😁
@@beautifulchaos4383 I used to skate too and they played a few older songs from Village People and a few others. I guess I felt then like I do now that it had been the 70s. I was really small and wasn't skating in that time.
@@krazyoldkatlady192 Don't forget about the dish stacking game that was won by Spaz during the Olympiad, i.e. the one with the Camp North Star fans chanting "SPAZ! SPAZ! SPAZ! SPAZ!" in the background. Jackie kisses him right before this game with these words of encouragement that undoubtedly gave Spaz some extra motivation: "Besides, you can do anything you want to if you want it bad enough". Spaz was naturally helped by a young boy from Camp North Star who hit one of the Camp Mohawk cheating punks in his butt with a broom just in the nick of time. This punk had his slingshot aimed at Spaz with the obvious intent of hitting him with a rock which would cause him to drop his stack of dishes -- but because the Mohawk punk was hit in his behind at the last second, he wound up hitting Spaz's opponent instead, which caused him to drop his stack of dishes and Spaz to win easily! :-)

The movie was filmed in Canada at a campground called "Camp White Pines." Can you give me the exact months / year it was filmed? I remember, three months, fresh out of highschool, August 12, 1979 when I saw the movie in a theater. I would love to visit the very campsite where it was filmed.
This movie is the best! I hope you can upload the scene at the very end of the film where Tripper leaves Morty in the middle of the lake in his bed while Morty's sleeping.. classic scene!! :P
This movie is so on it. My Camp, the Director, the staff, cits, campers and even rival camp was like them. We were the outsiders compared to the other camps and groups. But my camp nickname is "Tripper"! Though, I'm not as leery-good as Bill Murray, I still pulled off the pep rally speech and had the camp chanted "It just doesn't matter"! And did a couple yuk-yuks here and there (shaving cream in the sleeper' hands, bucket brigade, MWATBALLS in the bed, etc.). The best one? The panty raids!
@15scottie I agree with your comment. I doctor who I have and who also helped my dad said that he liked my dad's outlook and that it was like his dad's outlook, in that they are happy with what they have and are enjoying themselves. He said his dad could be on the porch smoking a cigar and be content and happy and he plans on having the same outlook on life. Just be happy with what you have and enjoy life.

I love Bill Murray. He was a sexy thing, built good and crazy funny. He is still amazing after all these years. I love watching this movie.

Yes! Spaz and Jackie,🙂😝😜🤪
I was 2 when this movie came out. Was pretty young when I saw it and it’s still a top 10 favorite of mine❤
I like that Spaz winds up dancing with Jackie after Larry encourages him. Larry was the best wing man.
Dude, Spaz and Bill are just killing it on the dance floor!
Spaz OWNS the floor.
Spaz dancing in the background is freaking hilarious. He looks as though he's delirious. :)
I just wish that the social gatherings we have, as well as American life, could be as cornball as this "Meatballs" movie; giggle!!
