In 1972 at age 14 I was a regular. I just passed for 18. It was on 21 street and west side highway. The music was incredible and the experience was transformational. It had the most beautiful men gathered I’d ever seen since. Clearly it was a different experience than your generation has experienced.
I love stories like this! Just like the Studio 54 stories we hear - you could neverrrr get into a club now at 14, even with a fake ID. You must have had a wild time as a teenager in NYC in the 70s!
The other clubs came from New York Eagle🌈 💪🌈members that started their own clubs from what I was told. 💛 Your teeth look whiter, you have a beautiful smile 😃
Keven, you killed the Eagle L.A. It is my favorite bar. Unpretentious and fun. You should have been there for Cub Scout Night, the first Friday of the month. You can play pool, smoke a cigar, cruise guys, etc. By the way another similar bar is the Macho Bar in Provincetown.
@@KevenTalks No, you can't ruin the Eagle L.A. I love the place. I meant it tongue in cheek. But seriously, it is a fun place. Thanks for the video by the way.
@@emiliourioste8263 I guess after the NYC one it just felt underwhelming, which I could literally say about every element of LA (other than weather) compared to NYC, having lived there before LA. It set me up for failure, lol. Have you been to the NYC one?
@@KevenTalks Wow, I'm learning quite a bit about you. I'm an L.A. native by the way. You know I've been to NYC twice and never ventured into the gay community. That should be next on my list. I've been to several leather bars including Fort Lauderdale so I'm sure the Eagle NYC won't shock me. There used to be a very fun and cruisey Eagle in Boston. Not sure if it's still open. Friday nights there were amazing. I was a boy in a candy factory. LOL.
@@emiliourioste8263 You must go to the NYC one! And funny you should mention that - my plan is to visit the FTL one tomorrow :) I just found out there's one here. Stay tuned...
Houston has one as well. I've only been once since I'm not into leather. For the time I was there I only saw people dressed in regular clothes. Not much leather on that night.
@@KevenTalks Yep, we have an Eagle in Houston as well as another leather bar called Ripcord for people who like the leather scene. You should google gay bars in Houston. It might surprise you.
Not having been to either one, but knowing the Eagle franchise in general (Chicago had one back in the day), the NYC one is hardcore and the LA one is a little more relaxed. I wouldn't turn down a trip to either one. I wish I had gone to the NYC one when I was there for WorldPride 2019 but I forgot my gear. The SF one, I have to say, was kind of a letdown, but maybe I caught it on a dead night, even if it was during Pride weekend. The Chicago one, that one was seriously off the chain.
There’s also an Eagle bar in Boston. I like the Eagle in NYC. Normally I’m into much classier places, but it’s sort of like a treasure hunt. I’m not into leather in even the slightest, but I have found clean cut model looking guys and hooked up with them in the wee hours of the morning many times. You never know what you’re going to find there, which can be exciting, mysterious and fun especially when you’re bored, horny and tipsy at 2am.
What a cutie you are. I Iooked up the bar on UA-cam because I miss it during this shutdown . I live walking distance from the LA location. A good place to get a beer without being bothered. Anything else is extra. The San Francisco location has a weird set up. My least favorite. Hope all bars can get back to business.
The Eagle, hmmm. This is not the original bar and location. It closed for a while when a lot of the leather bars were losing their appeal. At the time there was The Eagle, The Spike, The Alter and The Lure. The Spike and The Eagle were a block apart along 11th ave. People would walk between the two to see what was going on in each place. There was so much traffic on the sidewalk that there should have been a divot in the pavement. :-) The Spike was a cool place, not too dark, clean, friendly bar tenders, etc... The original Eagle, dark, musty, so dark that you should have had night vision glasses. The minuet you walked into the place you had the pleasant order of mildew. Going to talk a piss was a spectator sport, which is still the flavor in the present bar. Personally, after going to the this version of The Eagle for at least 5 years, I am over it. It is great that there is a smattering of different guys, all shapes and sizes but it is just as vapid and pretentious as the "pretty boy bars". You can stand in one place and you will see every person walk by you doing the walking dead march. There is no chance to to start a conversation with someone, just to hang and talk. And when it does happen, which it has for me at times, suddenly you feel a hand going up your thigh or a hand trying to get down your pants. If that is what a person is looking for, more power to them. But for me, it is not my style anymore. OVER IT GURL-FRIEND!!! lol All the best.
Very valid points. It's kind of like gambling. I've had a few nice, exciting encounters at the Eagle with guys I was actually into, but most of the time it is indeed just "zombies" walking by and the occasional guy who invades your personal space. I think I'm also at the age now where the 5% chance of a unique, special experience isn't worth the 95% of my time wasted.
Eagle of PDX used to be the same way but under new owners the porn on the TV's were replaced by golf... Used to be a nice little 3pm place in the afternoon I'd go to and giggle with friends about the night before, or compare experiences with the porn on the screen.
Hello KevenTalks, I totally understand your point of view. I live out in the IE & here in Pomona we have 3 gay bar's, one's kinda like for the younger hipsters guy's & the other two? Have a mixture of ages. I am into leather but harnesses mostly but do have much respect for the entire leather community. I've been to the Eagle and as for me? I feel I can wear my harness & feel No judgment, as for the main bar I go to? I wouldn't feel to confident wearing unless they were having a bear night. The Eagle has it's night's & I get that the porn especially the fisting one's can be overwhelming, lol. The door man has to play the part of breaking thing's up but it just starts right back up. I go because the eagle offers me somewhere I can feel comfortable at, I wish there was one here so I didn't have to bus it up to L.A. lol. I do agree with you about the type of guy's who look right pass you if your not what there out for.
