Another vote added for SK Yessongs!! Can't wait to watch them all perform this with my eyes (I'm assuming it was filmed visually..) Happy weekend Michael!
For almost nine minutes, I thought I had reached the inaccessible star!!! YES, an “absolute” musical experience... which one would readily believe was caused by geniuses from another world. Unique. Thanks.
If this hits you at the right time there really is no better tonic..and I found it here less than an hour after release at 11pm on a Friday Night..which for those of us of a certain age in the U.K. has a significant resonance. This song often opened YES in concert.. and as Tommy Vance said on episode 1 of The Friday Rock Show.. “You are in for a real treat tonight..” So true. Music of a lost age…rediscovered for a new appreciative audience.
Every time they start fading-out, I'm like...Nooooooo! I want more of that rambling guitar. Then I go watch it live to (almost) get satisfied. So...by bye. Love your channel!
QUINTESSENTIAL YES WRAPPED NEATLY IN FUNK PACKAGING with complexity, energy, and brilliant. This one always gets my motor running at a 'HIGH' velocity. and never ever gets old! BUT I MUST DEBUNK THE FOLKLORE of the Khatru's meaning. Nowhere does it say that. When Jon was asked, he said "AS YOU WISH" as to say "WHATEVER YOU WANT IT TO MEAN." People misinterpreted his answer. SB became their standard first song in Concert after the Firebird Suite theme intro.
Hey Brandon. Easily one of the top Yes songs out there. If the song was a stick of rock if you broke it, it would have the word QUALITY written all the way through it. All the best. Dave✅✅
The song they opened many tours with, including the Tourmator tour in 1978 I went to featuring songs from Tormato and Going For The One. the Khatru opener was always started with an excerpt from Stravinsky's "Firebird Suite" as is heard on the YESSONGS live album.
Interesting.. I hear it as 15/4 (alternating 8/4 and 7/4). Absolutely love this song too.. Close to the Edge is my favorite album from them. I fell deep into the Yes rabbit hole when I was 16, and I’ll be 50 this year.
Probably my fav Yes track...just stunning, even after these 5 decades! Thanks for reacting, bro. You would fully enjoy the music of Neal Morse (Spock's Beard,Transatlantic, solo,Flying Colors, and DEF the Neal Morse Band!). The perfect combinaton of Kansas,Rush, yes, Genesis,ELP, Gentle Giant and even later Beatles. Hard to pick what to choose, but maybe start with 'The Call' from The Grand Experiment album (NMB). For an epic, try 'alive Again' studio OR live version. Neal's drummer has been Mike Portnoy (of Dream Theater). Again-- you'd love ANYthing Neal Morse! Cheers, T
Hey Brandon! YES❣️❣️❣️SK is a great song that opened their shows for years. The band plays it so well with little to no effort! SK has everything, great musicianship and incredible vocals!! Played live, not only does it get the crowd going, it gets the band going! YES at their very best❣️❣️❣️🪐🪐🪐🛸🛸🛸⭐️⭐️⭐️👍😎
Hi Jeff! Thought you might like this song 😏 I will have to check out the Yessongs version as people are stating. Thanks for your continued support. Have a great night! ☮💙
Great song! I’ve seen it live multiple times….what a masterpiece! I’m so glad we get a new Yes reaction on the regular now. Soooo much more to come!! Have a great weekend my friend! 😊
Awesome! Gets better on every listen. Yes, I'm sure there are still at least 25 "Yessongs" on my list, plus everything else from them! Thanks, enjoy your weekend too. Really curious to see how tomorrow's video performs and what it will sound like. And Fading Lights gets closer every week!!! 😁
What a great song and I first heard this in 1972 when the album came out. My favourite part begins at: 6:33 . I love the flute-like keyboard that Rick plays in the background.
...indeed, Brandon - I like that you call them 'monuments'... they put so much into them... I didn't know that the finale was inspired by Stravinsky, but it makes so much sense now, as on my favourite album by them, the 'Yessongs', they start with the famous 'Firebird-Suite' of Stravinsky, while they enter the stage, and then go directly into 'Siberian Kathru', framing the song on both ends by that classical genius. Although they all shine, I feel particularly enchanted by Jon's singing, including multiple background voices... just awesome - platinum award well deserved...
Hello. Oh, I can't wait to hear the Yessongs version with the Firebird Suite added! Jon's vocals beyond the usual awesomeness here. Have a wonderful night, well, day when you read this 😊
Agree! You're welcome. Yes I read the end section was inspired by Stravinsky! I guess they even incorporate some of his music into the live version of this song. Thanks for watching.. 🙂
@@retroreactions.... they start their shows with a prerecording of the last part of the firebird suite. I would listen to Stravinsky after playing gigs in college. Usually about 3 am. Lol
Glad you liked this one. For the non-fade out ending and extended guitar solo and impactful ending try the live version from 1973 Yessongs triple live album version with the Stravinsky Firebird introduction (which was the Yes signature live performance into). This is the definitive version for me anyway.
Great news...I reacted to Awaken 8 months ago!...hopefully I did the song some justice. Here's the link if interested 😊 ua-cam.com/video/72PG4cVgQbE/v-deo.html
I listened to The Valley Of The Kings by Arena this afternoon and thought of your reaction if you listened to this amazing peplum like masterpiece. Looking forward to seeing you react to it !
I'd love to see you review Chris Squire's final full-album collaboration with Steve Hackett. They go by the combinatorial name Squackett and the album is titled "A Life Within A Day". There are several stand-out tracks I could mention, but I'll let you determine that for yourself....!
Hi Michael. WOW, not sure I knew that those 2 music LEGENDS teamed up. Sadly it looks like it was from way after my channel window of 1970-1999... will keep it in mind thank you!
unfortunately the end of the Bruford era in the classic age of Yes. Rick and Bill were both in the band for Fragile and Close To The Edge only. The Union era saw them back but that was a different era
@@retroreactions.... Rick appeared to record Fragile and quit as the Tales tour was winding down. Patrick preformed on Relayer. Then Jon sent Rick a rough take of Wondrous Stories, and he was in for Awaken, pipe organ and all. After recording Tormato he and Jon ran screaming into the night, with Drama as an odd segue for the band. In all Rick had about 5 periods of Yes. One of the most revolving of the revolving doors
Hello. It would be a huge break in my vision for the channel, but I'm definitely open to the possibility. I know there's lots of amazing stuff from that decade too. I did a 60s week last year with many songs, and at the least I'll do one of those again this year 🙂
At some point you won't be able to avoid the live album YESSONGS (that's where this song has a "real ending"). But maybe you'll do yourself a favor if you don't do this publicly on UA-cam, but privately for yourself. Be sure to listen to it from the album; The existing live videos often have “miserable quality”. I always made myself a nice pot of (exotic) tea, lit incense sticks, closed my eyes and enjoyed a good 2 hours of concert. O.k., times change... but you know what I mean ;-)
My least favorite song on the album . . . which really isn't a harsh criticism because the the other two songs Close To The Edge and And You And I are so super awesome! 😅
@@retroreactions.... It's not a "one is better than the other" thing, just a personal preference thing. 🥰 They are both quite different and both great, I just prefer the "grandiose beauty" of And You And I over the "rocking high energy" of Siberian Khatru. 😎👍
Once again, they took me to so many places. These aren't just songs...they are more like monuments to me.. Thanks for watching! 🥰
Thanks for sharing your wonderful memories of your experience with this band my friend!
So good you’ve paced yourself with CTTE. This was my favorite track at first until the title track became an obsession ❤
The BEST band ever
Squire on Bass...simply the best.
For sure! Always a treat to hear him in every song. Thanks for watching!
Chris is the GOAT! We miss you brother!!!🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊👍😎
Treat yourself to the live version on "Yessongs"

Noted. Thanks Ken!
Absolutely great idea!!!!
Agree! 😊
Covers every aspect of what it means to be YES brilliantly. 👑

Can completely see (and hear!) that. YES days are certainly special days for me on this channel!
In the Yessongs album version Steve takes that ending solo to the stratosphere. The recorded version here is pristine perfection. Thanks Brandon.
Another vote added for SK Yessongs!! Can't wait to watch them all perform this with my eyes (I'm assuming it was filmed visually..) Happy weekend Michael!
Yes an intense live performance, with a stunning ending instead of a fade-out.
@@retroreactions....The Yessongs versions are incredible!
"Relayer" and "Close To Th Edge" are my favorite Yes-Albums. Chris Squire´s playing and the tone of his bass are absolute outstanding.
Hi. Chris blows me away every single time...oh wait... they all do!!! Thanks so much for watching
@@retroreactions.... You´re right...they all do. And they remained true to themselves and their sound well into the 80s.
There are no words to describe the greatness…
Propulsive music, Chris really shines on this. Do check out the live version from Yessongs.
Thanks for watching Mark. Yours is now the 3rd vote for the Yessongs version. I suspect there will be many more votes!
Saw them at 14 in 1977, in “the round”. Unforgettable. They killed this number.
WOW, epic...and at just 14!! Nowadays many 14 yo's just have rap.... Thanks for stoppin by!
Per usual with Yes, I come for Chris Squire's bass(RIP), and stay for the rest...
I completely get it (and hear it!). Thanks for being first here today 🥇 Enjoy the rest of your day!
Listen to it another 100 times Brandon and it will become one of your favorites.🤩
I believe you 1000%! Already gets better with each listen 😌

Yes, their talent literally seems "beyond this world" at times....what a blessing their music is to us 😌 Happy Saturday!
I seem to remember Jon Anderson saying some of the words were just chosen because they liked the sounds of them in combination.

Hello. Epic choice for an opener! So awesome that you got to be there!!
How come music that was made over 50 years ago sounds like it's beaming in from a far distant future?
So true! Maybe Yes channeled another time, place, dimension?............
Sometimes I think this is my absolute favorite Yes song, and then I turn the record over!!
Really enjoyed this with you!
Hi there! Yea, Close to the Edge not too shabby.. 😁 Thanks for watching with me 💙
I love how this feels like a simple enough rocker. But it's actually in 15/8 time (alternating 8/8 and 7/8). Love this song and the whole album.
