I felt this message as a kid. Its so true people with good intentions can still harm you as they maybe carrying their own pain

So true, sometimes adults, including those who make Disney movies can have the best intentions, wanting to convey valuable life lessons to kids, but just end up traumatizing them to no end...
(And of course it IS a great movie with a great message, but it really did totally traumatize me watching it as a small child)

He basically summed up the psychology and psychiatry and pharmaceutical industries in a nutshell. You NEED to question and research and bein distrustful or cautious IS a good thing. Not a bad thing.

This is more true than ever, with all this beer bug stuff going around. If you even *question* the Holy Public Health Guidelines, and the angels descended from on high who issued these decrees, you are immediately deemed a danger to society, and you have no recourse. You don't get to talk, and that's that.

@@Emper0rH0rde its so true right now, if you ever question of not wanting to do gender transition operation on kids or speak about the danger of Marxism, you will be labeled transphobic or Nazi and then they get you fired from jobs and prevent u to even have a life.

"They weren't that harmful to begin with. They just look scarier than they really were"
    So true about life!

It's also another way of looking at the Wheelers. They just look scary; that's their only defense against any kind of danger, because they are *completely* helpless.

Adults can't just harm you... they can neglect you, which can be even worse. Thankfully I'm not speaking from my own experience.

I have always loved this film. Walter Merch, I think it is a great film. And I want to live in that world, I always did, even though I know it doesn't exist in real life. I liked that it was scary and dark, and that soundtrack...so amazing. I'm going to buy it, I've decided. :-p

Nicol Williamson's character was based on JP Morgan, stealing everything and also the electric machine was a reference to how he stole Nikola Tesla's patents for electricity, and misused their original purpose.

This message rings incredibly true as an autistic & LGBT person. I’ve had an easier time than most, but I have always felt like I needed to be extra aware that sometimes people who think they’re helping..... aren’t. Return To Oz is one of my favorite movies, and it has such a strong message!

You've completely misunderstood what he's saying. For a start (and there's a LOT but this is just a start) he's not saying it's the MESSAGE of the movie. It's an underlying subtext. There's a massive difference.

Yea I don’t really like the “defend your dreams” message but I do like the idea of how adults could be dismissive or even mean well with good intentions, but still unaware of darkness or still abandon children.
