I've seen various introductory videos in recent years. This series is the best I know. Well structured, great step-by-step explanation, easy to understand, easy to follow.
I've tried watching other tutorials, but I just got confused and left behind. Zach does a great job at explaining things so a beginner can understand. Best tutorial I've worked with so far, 10/10. Thank you!
For all of you having problems "finding" the island selection in the UV-Editor... Just use the Face-Selection-Mode, hoover over the island and press "L".
The island select wont show if the "UV Sync Selection" (two arrows button in top left corner) is enabled. Disable it first then make sure everything is selected. Zach disables it at 6:32.
Finally a clear, concise and thorough explanation of UV unwrapping, I finally got it, I love your tutorial and the methodical and logical way you explain things.
I think it's very good that you not only show the proceeding, but also the desciption for it. Its much easier really to understand the procedure. Great job!
If anyone is having issues with UV maps not showing for items that should already have them in the UV editor (for example the fabric) it's because you need to hit the UV Sync Selection button (The 2 arrows) at the top left of the UV editor window. EDIT: I'm a little further into the video now and this button is actually covered but if you have this on earlier it will fix it if the UV map isn't showing at the point of selection.
I started to follow this course about a week ago and must admit I can’t get rid of that Bob Ross vibes when I listen to your explanation :D I mean you sound so cosy and soothing, it seems like every possible issue can and will be solved anyway. Thank you so much for this course!

You ARE amazing, thank you so much! I've been all over the various Blender video tutorials for a problem I was having with the uv editor scene, you not only sorted that out for me, but I discovered other misunderstandings!
Thank you so much, Zach, as a newb to animation, I'm thrilled that you're taking the time to be very thorough, precise and clear in your instructions. I also like the fact that you're working in the latest solid version of Blender as that's the one we're using in school. Now that I used and understood this tutorial of yours, I'll go back and start from the beginning to better understand modeling and UV maps.
Painted an entire object, took a day to do it and some parts were so messy because of stretched UVs. When my friend unwrapped the same mesh in Maya it was so clean. Today I learned the importance of applying mesh scale before unwrapping. Would have saved me A LOT of time.

7:00 but how do you scale without them being the same as the object? And when would you want to do this. Also in 3ds max you can chose the orientation of the UV, on the XYZ, and even the object shape, is there a way to do this in blender?
Hello ^^ Ye it isn't directly explained in Blender but he explains it in fact in the "UV unwrapping explained" part. To guess where put the seams you need to think which edges would be in fact cut if you made the model with one or many paper folders. In the "UV unwrapping explained" part of this video you can see a very commun yet effective example, the 2D pattern for a 3D cube. However sure there isn't always one way to do the pattern as for a cube pattern and in general a seam can be spottable so you need to figure out also edges that aren't much visible or in front or are in a logical place between different kind of material/stuff painted inside the texture where anyway there is a strict difference. For a t-shirt you don't put the seams on the front, you put them on the sides ^^ So looking a cloths patern or paper patterns for 3D objects can help seing how it is done. I would also advice you to give a look at Blender Guru channel in plus of this actual channel, he got a serie of videos specially showing variant cases of objects to unwrap correctly to also be able to adapt to more complexe models by yourself :)

I even checked the scale it seems to be correct also, Please suggest me what to do. Thank you.
THANK YOU!!! I was just able to unwrap a low poly hand that was making me SOOO frustrated!!! I have spent since this weekend practicing unwrapping things and trying to align textures to them. Things I did wrong. Somehow marked as sharp instead of marking as seam. Also if I do a low angle UV project it would separate all UV faces and then you can't select a single vertice (even though merge by distance was done b4 the unwrap)... this is just as bad as learning to code (at least now I know how to code basic stuff) BUT the learning curve Hurts!!! Thanks for taking some of that hurt away.
