Over the course of the past week, I've caught up on everything so far in this series and I love it. I'm in a weird spot, where I didn't grow up in this era of the TCG (I started playing around the release of Legends Awakened) and I haven't played in years. However, while I did play, I got a ton of packs from these early sets as birthday/Christmas presents, so I have a lot of nostalgia for these older cards. For my 10th birthday, right after I got into Pokemon, I got about 30 packs of the first three sets, which I absolutely loved opening. I still have all those cards. And when I went to the local Pokemon league, every time I had money, I got some ex-era packs (I pulled a Sneasel ex in one of my first ones). Basically what I'm trying to say is, thanks for continuing this series. It makes me really happy to be getting all of this nostalgia for the game, even though I probably wouldn't know which way is up if I tried playing today, judging by the sheer power of modern cards.
Now this one brings all the nostalgia. I owned cards since base set, but this set was when I really got into the game. I was returning to my country after living 2 years oversees. Finding people to play and trade was my way of making some friends. I got the armaldo deck, and developed somewhat of an obsession with making a deck based around 120 hp pokemon. Keep in mind, I was an 100% casual kid and no one in the crew had any idea of what were good or bad decks. We just built what we liked to have fun. Internet wasn't what it is today. I remember a kid showed up at school with a Golem EX (not from this set, but was the first EX I've ever seen). I though it was a fake card. 160 hp, 5 retreat cost, 2 weaknesses, silver border. It just crushed everything I knew about the game. I ended up trading for it, and my new obsession became EX cards. To this day, I have this set's wailord EX, and Aggron EX
This was by far the coolest time of the game. No wonder Jason k calls it the golden age. I also quit after 2009. Now nostalgia kicked in and I spent a crapload to build some of the decks you recommended, not regretting it the slightest bit. If there would be retro worlds, I'd do anything to get in!
I love this and with every set you do a history lesson on I pick from and add to a cube. You know what would be amazing? If you did a video on how to design a pokemon cube. Its a great way to play when you don't have a card shop open
The Wailord card is my favorite card upon release. It took me about 11 years before I get my hands on one due to being a teenager when it was released.
Gosh i still remember when i have bought ExSandstorm and ExDragon theme decks, Cradily and Flygon respectively. I was more of a casual player but i really loved how the game was shaping during this game. Also you are approaching my favourite set Ex Deoxys! Deoxys Ex was a really wonderful Ex pokemon, and i recall using it during the delta era locking down all EX pokemon based decks cause they had no answer to it XDD Good times, won my locals 4 weeks in a row till Ex Diamond and Pearl arrived ahahah
This series, along with a couple videos on some of the newer stuff, has gotten me back into the game at least temporarily. I bought the Gardevoir deck, put it in sleeves (I think it might have been my first sleeved deck ever lol. I was a dumb kid-teen ), added and took out stuff (again, dumb kid ), and used it against friends. Would you believe adding stuff didn't make the deck better? Especially adding stuff like probably potion or something XD
I was 7 when this set came out! But a few years later I remember getting some specific card products and one of them was this pokemon stadium battle decks set which had 2 decks that you could play with a friend, among other cards it had that dunsparce, the delcatty and a skitty, and the non-ex holo blaziken and gardevoir. I also had a few ex cards and it's a shame I didn't keep them with all my other cards.
Love your videos so much mate. Bc of this one I ordered myself all of the cards for the complete wailord ex deck, hope it lives up to the expectations haha. I never heard about it but it sounds like f* much fun!!
Just fyi, "Nguyen" is pronounced like "Win". Great video! These are a lot more interesting than the previous ereader sets where most of the cards were pretty awful
in the beginning you said something along the lines of WOTC taking the game back and I figured it was a small oopsie but you kept referring to WOTC still having the game through the rest of the video.... dont you have it backwards? :P
Nope. They're technically not considered pokemon until you "activate" and play them. Its one of the problems that plague fossil decks a lot unfortunately
I know Lillie's Poke Doll is better because it recycles itself, but were the fossils ever in the same format as Robo Sub? If so, why weren't they played over it since most of them have more than 30 HP?
There were/are fossil trainer cards that could be played alongside Robo Sub, but they are drastically different than the fossils mentioned here. I believe it was in the Diamond & Pearl block when they started giving up prizes, and then in the Black & White block they stopped being played onto the bench like Pokémon (they got reeeally bad). Later in Sun & Moon you could play fossils onto the bench again but they were more generic (not necessarily Pokémon specific) and did give up a prize. tl;dr Fossils haven't been broken for years and were essentially replaced by Robo Sub and Lillie's Poke Doll, at least as far as prize denial is concerned.
Me looking away while taking a hit of some fine green as he says "Feedback": "Nigga, don't you mean Feebas? Wait where is he? Aww shit Gardevoir ate the mofo."
Please keep making these ross you're the only guy catching me up on 15 years of ptcg I missed

Please don’t stop! I look forward to this every week! I want your channel to have the full history on record!

Wow, EX Sandstorm. This was the set I got cards from when I first got into Pokemon TCG. A lot of memories :)
Another superb video! Pleeeeeease keep making these! Thank you in advance!
Please don't stop, these are amazing and I watched them in a few days
Wish I had those fossil cards now. Love that Wailord deck.

My favorite time in the game, loving the EX set reviews :)
Hey Wossy will you do these up until present day? This is really interesting and I can't wait to see more.
I remember getting this wailord in the ex series tin back in 03' i got it for my bday. i still got the card sleeved up. i need to get it graded
0:23 it was actually the opposite. But these are still great videos.
Just fyi, "Nguyen" is pronounced like "Win". Great video! These are a lot more interesting than the previous ereader sets where most of the cards were pretty awful
Please keep this going
The best series ever!
I want these videos to carry on!
The final Pokémon card with a retreat cost of 5 is Mamoswine in DP Stormfront.
You don’t say
wailord V: *legendary*
in the beginning you said something along the lines of WOTC taking the game back and I figured it was a small oopsie but you kept referring to WOTC still having the game through the rest of the video.... dont you have it backwards? :P
Best series on UA-cam, hands down.
Ex sandstorm was the first, and only, time I saw a sealed booster box in Walmart.
I miss the day when we would get English exclusive cards. Now we just get 200+ card sets that are way more expensive to collect outside of japan.
I really miss the world championships decks even if they weren’t legal technically me n my brother had fun with them
I'm surprised you didn't mention that this was the first set with rare candy in it
I think you mean that the Pokémon company took the game back from wizards.
Is it possible to start the match with a fossil as only Pokémon?
Same question for the 10 HP clefairy doll from 1st generation
Nope. They're technically not considered pokemon until you "activate" and play them. Its one of the problems that plague fossil decks a lot unfortunately
Let's go!!
Hah, today while packing up I found an empty Caravan deck box.
its crazy how expensive these sets are now.not long ago i was going to walmart getting lose ex series packs for 3 bucks a piece lol
Same, I actually bought a pack of this for a friend way back in the day and he actually pulled a Kabutops EX
@@MegaMicah12 nice since i started workin im collecting all holos/ex primes from each set lol its gnna take awhile
And I remember buying base set 1 packs from layaway at Walmart in the early 2000s. Absolutely wild
120 became 340
What?

i didn't play but i would play wailord cuz whales
Me looking away while taking a hit of some fine green as he says "Feedback":
