As a local to this level crossing, I hate it! I've been stuck trying to cross here for over 15 minutes on several occasions. A few times, I've had to wait for 5 trains (and once 6 trains) before the barriers went back up, sometimes 2 trains in a row are from the same direction. Just round the corner (half a mile according to Google maps) is Havant station where every train stops, it only has the 2 platforms so can't handle multiple trains in the same direction at once so there must be good time gaps between trains, hence, there must be enough time for these barriers to go up between trains.
Pretty much every train stops at Havant and the platforms there are actually bidirectional meaning they can actually hold two trains in the same direction if they need to. You are right though, they do have time to raise the barriers between trains, but some of the signallers are better than others, meaning depending on who is working the shift some will raise the barriers between trains and some won’t. For that same reason sometimes they close Bedhampton too early and sometimes too late.
Do Southern go through here?
Yes
There’s 3 GWE 4th Generation barriers, and one 3rd Generation barrier, so I’d say this crossing was installed 1981-82.

When Paul Gilman came here, that alarm wasn't working. It sounds a bit like that old alarm at Redcar Church Lane L/C.
