- “Assist makes two people happy. A point makes one guy happy. Simple as that.”
Nikola Jokic. Olympic Silver Medalist at the 2016 Rio Olympics. He became an All-Star in 2019, and unless criteria drastically changed this past season for no reason at all, he SHOULD finish in the top 5 in Most Valuable Player voting. The question of first or second team All-NBA seems a matter of taste, but for my money, Jokic leading (read: CARRYING) the Denver Nuggets to the second best second in the Western Conference is worth more than anything any other center in the league has done to this point…but let’s flashback to the 2017-18 season.
The numbers: Nikola Jokic finished 5th in Value Over Replacement Player. Behind the likes of MVPs LeBron James, James Harden, Russell Westbrook, and All-NBA First Teamer Damian Lillard. He finished with a HIGH player efficient rating than Chris Paul, Most Improved Player award winner Victor Oladipo, and even Joel Embiid. He finished 8th in Win Shares (higher than Kevin Durant, Ben Simmons, and Stephen Curry). Plus, he was the only player in the top 10 in rebounding in the league to finish in the top 15 in assists (LeBron James and Russell Westbrook finished outside of the top 10 in rebounding, but finished as the top 2 assist men overall).
Basically, the Nuggets JUST BARELY missed the playoffs, but that was in no small part because of the Joker and his ballin’ out. This video is about his passing. He’s a 7 foot point guard. His game’s got some Magic in him (pun intended). It feels like a young CWebb. Some shades of Sabonis. A little bit of Bill Walton. He’s got a passing fancy of passing fancy and that makes him a fantastic watch every single night. As I like to say about primetime passers, to quote one of the all-time greats: he’s a visionary. His vision is scary.
This channel is so underrated...
I can watch this all day.
This is how Naismith wanted basketball to be played
That footwork and pass at 0:58
Right, Jrchrss!! He did with no traveling. : )
He already know where to pass before holding the ball. He didn't waste a lot of time holding the ball unlike the most of assists leaders.
Great observation. Efficient, self-less, timely.
His game is a combination of both Gasol brothers. Bruiser like Marc, finesse like Pau, and IQ like both of them
Nice description
now you add a little bit of Dirk on top of the key, a little bit of Boris Diaw and Vlade Divac
Jokic best passing big in the league?
He’s the best passer in the league
Amazing work Evin
Such a joy to watch him this year
Years after year after Year we've been listening: "that Guy has the Eyes on the back of his Head"
His ability to see the open man , and then make the perfect pass is uncanny
At 7:58, too funny his teammate Barton was surprised that the ball was already coming to him.
Best passing center? Best passer period.
Jokic is the ultimate Anti-Harden.
This is a funny comment. Very.
Jokic is a 7 ft stretch playmaker
Best passing player ever. A legend. I hope he will win a championship. I cannot imagine having to pass the ball to Klay Thompson or Kyle Corver. Those guys could have 30 a night.
Boy do I have news for you
He did behind the back pass in the post to both gasol brothers 😂
You caught that, too, Mikedfelix! Yes!!
The Big fundmental 2.0
This is when high technical skills meets high basketball IQ
Did Booker pass the ball into Joker's head? 1:35
🤔
