Love those GG1s I was curious to know why an electric loco would give off a puff of smoke and found this: In the 1930s, railroad passenger cars were heated with steam from the locomotive. The GG1 had an oil-fired steam generator to feed its train's steam line.

Thank you for your comment. Yes that puff of smoke is intermittent and represents the smoke from the steam generator that is on board. I don’t run this loco too often but it is a good runner and it looks great.

Nice Paul! Is the GG1 metal, or plastic with a metal frame? I didn't know MTH made a Gauge 1 GG1.

It’s all metal. I don’t get this out often. But now that I’m retired I’m cycling through more of my collection. Selling some too. Thanks for the comment Frank.

And I believe MTH only made 1 run of these back in the 2009-2010 time period. The unit also has the capability to run via the pantograph with catenary wiring. And it has motors to raise the pantographs up and down. I run on track power but could run on an electrified catenary system too.

@paultorrey I'm waiting for one of these to come up for sale. I don't think USA Trains is going to make anymore.
