Negatives -Kirito -"Tragic" events that made no sense -Kirito -Stop focusing on Shion's ass -Kirito Now why do I get the feeling that he doesn't like Kirito? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
I don't like that men who are not Kirito are portrayed as evil, stupid, or manipulative. And that all women are portrayed as virtuous, cute, or victims. I am talking in generalities ofcourse, I know there are a few exceptions.
+Pixy Wing maybe or he is just using it as a lazy way to make the audience despise the antagonist rape scenes can happen in books but this is not how to do them they should always affect the character in some way so that the reader (or viewer whatever) can see how they deal with it here its just a spur of the moment and the second its over the female in question is just fine
+frederik vedersø note that rape scenes can also be for males side note good cases of rape portrayal in story telling is things like BTW SPOILERS Guts from Berserk: here its his adoptive father that sells him its a betrayal that haunts him and he later kills his rapist also he doesn't allow people to touch him showing the effects of the rape also its a key point of his backstory The night angel trilogy (by brent weeks) here the main characters bestie is raped by the bigger kid named Rat who yes yes is the antagonist but before you say its a lazy way to make us hate him do note that this is but one of many things he did and it was done well because it was meant to solidify the hellish way of life the main characters had in their childhood
+Pixy Wing The rape scene are what is used also in movies for shock. It serve no point except trying to hit you in the emotions and being like. Omg that is so horrible, I am shocked.
***** I am not saying that a rape scene cannot be done right. But in most cases its not. In most cases the wanting to shock your audience applies. It was done in quite a few 90ties movies as well. Where the independent woman just needed the right man to break down in front of, because of a trauma in the past.
+clubg100 he is 16 and she is 17. And she found it kinda terrible that he was younger. So saying that means you are tottaly fine in living a married life. Do not worry throughout the whole season the daughter keeps returning. As we love this fucked up thing being shoved in the face.
How dare the FOOLS that call themselves writers desecrate Excalibur's name with that god awful middle arc! (If you got the reference you get an amazing free nothing).
The abridged series, I believe, really improves on the characters and to some extent the story. It highlights the problems Kirito should have and acknowledges the negative personality traits he has
And the new SAO Alternative. The new writer was like: "hey Leki, I like you, gonna let you finish; but this how you write characters, tell a story, and make a VR setting."
*How people view rating :* Enjoyment + Characters + = Rating Story + etc. *How I view rating :* Characters + Story = Enjoyment = Rating + etc. I don't care if the story is bad, if the other aspects of the show made up for it, my enjoyment will be high, and so will be my rating. I don't understand how can people view enjoyment just as another category and not the sum of them all.
+Frederic Bessette It's sort of when you have a guilty pleasure or something. Like you know a show has all the qualities to be terrible, yet you still enjoy watching it.
Darkknight5x5 Like fairy tail. I know what you mean, but i'd still rate it good. I understand it has many flaws, but since i'm only watching anime for the sake of enjoyment, my score would reflect this sole aspect.
+Frederic Bessette Because your second example wouldn't really equal "enjoyment" so much as an assessment of all the elements of the show without the bias of the critic's personal enjoyment factoring in so clearly (undeniably it still would have an effect.) The simple truth is that people can really like shows that are of bad quality in story or characters, animation, music, etc despite those flaws, and their enjoyment does not directly equal the sum of the quality of these elements. Why do you think Guilty Crown and SAO are so popular and well liked?
+Frederic Bessette Both methods are usable. It depends on what you seek to do with your review. Because Tristan had made "enjoyment" as its own category in the past, this indicates that he is attempting to make reviews that are more objective than subjective. He attempts to look at the other categories -- characters, story, sound, animation, etc. -- with as much objectivity as he can, but also takes into account how much he enjoys the series regardless of how good or bad the other categories end up. On the other hand, someone who bases their score only on enjoyment may be seeking to create reviews that are more subjective than objective. Even if a show has many flaws, and the reviewer knows this, it is how much they enjoyed the show that really matters to them. Neither of these viewpoints are wrong or bad. They are simply different ways to go about reviewing media.
GunNlazor Then that simply means that characters, story, animation and sound aren't enough to describe a show. And "enjoyment" shouldn't be the category that regroups all these hidden categories that people aren't familiar with. SAO and Guilty Crown are well liked due to a good amound of badass-ness for example. But this aspect doens't translate directly into enjoyment, it's just another part of the show like story and animation. They all contribute to : the overall enjoyment of the show. That's how I see it at least.
I don't think you have to worry so much for Season 3, coming from a person who's read the Light Novel. 1. Kirito's (mostly) useless harem disappears from the story for a good long time. No bad links to bad memories of bad plotlines that led to bad characterization. 2. We get a whole new world, a whole new set of realistic characters, and a whole new grand scheme of everything. 3. Kirito has been nerfed from total deus ex machina to that poor villager kid who happens to know how to use a sword somewhat and uses it to cut down trees all day. I'm not even joking about that analogy. 4. No additions to Kirito's harem and as mentioned previously, no mentions of his already-existing harem. In fact, I don't think Kirito even THINKS about them for various reasons in the next season. Yes, my friend. It is happening. 5. Finally, the best news! All of these points sound great, right? Well, listen to this. The saga that starts in the next season, Project Alicization, is SO LONG that this one saga ALONE has more content and plot than all of the others that came before it COMBINED. In turn, ALL of the previous good points and MORE will continue to last for a VERY long time. The way that SAO seems to have the best of what it can offer as something that comes much later in the show reminds me somewhat of Puella Magi Madoka Magica (when reality hits the characters), RWBY (when Volume 3 came around), and Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya (when the 3rei season starts, which I REALLY recommend to you as a hardcore fan of Type Moon works). So, as much as I hated the seasons before Project Alicization, I have endured and expect to be rewarded. If A1 Pictures manages to adapt it properly, I promise that you will not be disappointed by the coming season.
If two things happen: Asuna still maintains her relevance in the series and she becomes a bit more badass than tsundere, and Kirito isn't some god-like figure who pulls deus ex machinas out of nowhere, then i'll be somewhat satisfied. I agree with you about fate/kaleid too. The first three seasons weren't fantastic or anything, but I think the fourth season was REALLY good and set the stage well for the movie (which I believe won't have a lot of Illya in it).
It was, •Mothers Rosario •GGO •Exaclibur ark and mothers Rosario was like a 8/10 ggo was horrible except for the opening and excalibur ark was a disgraceful 1/10, Hot garbage let's hope Sao III, aka alciteration ark does better and fixes everything besides ordinal scale was pretty good
+starcraft2own I don't mind discussing series, in fact I love being a part of those , but really hate worthless ones filled with "cause my opinion is better than yours" or "just cause"
+MichiTippyAnime yeah everyone has an opinion and the right to voice it but there are a lot of trolls and haters out there especially if u say something about one of there hyped anime. Big danger of that if anything negative is said about HxH assuming thats the last of the 5 being reviewed.
DragonAce028 I honestly prefer those than people who go "Oh better grab the popcorn because this gon b good" because atleast they have something original to say.
yeah, i guess. i liked it more than GGOs arc because the only good thing about it as a hole was Sinon, or Shion as she was translated, but it fell appart as a hole because writters just fucking love their harem for some reason. Still think Sinon is the best character in the series though, that wont change
Really that and Sleeping Knights should just have been the show. Honestly if they had cut out Kirito and Asuna and pretended like the entire previous SAO hadn't existed, the show would've been much better.
I used to read fanfics like My immortal and Sonic High School aloud with friends during lunch. The idea was to hold back the laughter, if you laughed, the next person would start reading from where you laughed
I actually really liked the 2nd season. Sinon and Rekken were amazing characters, and the show didn't waste half of it's time on an arc with no weight or consequences like the ALO arc in season 1. I still find Kirito an entertaining and likable characters, and combined with the two new characters, it was really fun. I miss badass Asuna though.
***** I'm not talking about the quality of the SAO visual novel/anime. I'm talking about the games within the visual novel/anime. Based on what I've seen what he's written, and his press statements, Reki Kawahra knows nothing about good game design, which wouldn't be a horrible thing, if his most famous work wasn't supposed to be about people in video games.
***** I already know that. I was including that under " what he's said in press statements". Either way, the poorly written games in the original light novels could have been easily be fixed in the anime adaptions made much later, which didn't happen, so the blame also falls on the people who made the anime.
+Pixy Wing +TMadara +Leidolf Winter What confuses me is that it is written as Shion at the end of the review; maybe because I watched it subbed I didn't realize how differently the name was pronounced versus written, but okay, can deal with that. So it is officially written as Sinon or Shinon in English but pronounced Shion, as opposed to Shinon?
+Pixy Wing Huh? That went someplace weird. Okay, my previous post reads weird because instead of making two sentences, I stupidly added something in the middle. I was mentioning I couldn't remember Tristan's name, nor could I make it out in the video. While I don't require a hearing aid or anything I *do* have hearing loss (a little more than is common to an adult my age). What I could hear him say didn't sound anything like that. So... between the time since I watched the sub of SAO II and now, I forgot how the name sounded when pronounced in the show. Plus given that Japanese is Japanese and I don't speak it, I easily could have just heard it wrong even if I could remember it correctly. What I *did* remember was how it was spelled in the subtitles. I didn't take that for granted though and once I saw a comment mention it, I went ahead and double checked Wikipedia and while it had more than one romanized version of the name, neither were spelled s-h-i-o-n. Not sure where the bashing you alluded to comes into play.
The biggest problem with SAO is it was billed as a fighting Anime when it was more of a slice of life Anime. That is false advertising if you ask me! The other problem is that it was written from the first person narrative in the light novels. No adaptation necessary. We only see one or two different characters get any meaningful development every arc. We'd probably have seen more Asuna character development in the Aincrad arc but that one was all over the place. The mother's Rosario arc only really developed to characters as well. The Sinon, Kirito, and the rest were all sidelined for that story. Even Asuna's mother didn't really get much development from that arc.
Just gonna be that guy to point something out but @8:34, he says LAO instead of ALO. Doesn't bother me too much but I decided to say this anyways because I can
+Glass Reflection I deffentily recommended the videogame hollow fragment and lost song if you want a really good story if the anime followed this story it would be much better tho I'm still in the beginning of lost song to rate the story
+Kurausukun I can't prove that this is right, but it's possible that the sub/dub of the home release DVD/Blu-Ray he watched spelled it as "Shion". Just maybe.
+MichiTippyAnime Correct. When the first books were written it started everything on floor 50 with flash backs of day 1 in chapter 4. Progressive actually says what happens from Asuna's view as much as Kirito's on floor 2+
+LMG Blurr The final arc of SAO II was sort of in the world of SAO. They recreated the castle in alfheim, so it was basically the same apart from them being able to fly.
I love the way you orate and express your ideas. I honestly liked SAO 2 a lot better than SAO 1, and it did do some good stuff. Sinon was the best character in the series before we got the development with Asuna and Yuuki, and I liked her story a lot more than anyone else's because she actually had some development as a character. She actually struggled and actually changed. Overall, the SAO franchise is a hit-or-miss series for most people, and I use it as a beginner anime when recommending it to friends. :)
***** Exactly. Even though it has a special place in my heart for being the show that brought me into anime, I've seen just so many better shows that I can't honestly place it as part of any top 5 or even top 10 list, for me. It's an okay and enjoyable show if you're willing to overlook a few things, and it is getting better as it goes on. I'm hoping Season 3 will continue on that trend. :)
Sinon's whole character arc and development process falls to shit if you ask questions and think about it though :D For example! Why did the robber who apparently couldn't afford to feed himself have money to buy a gun in Japan? I assume he bought it for the robbery, because Japanese gun control gives you 10 years jail time for even owning a gun for anything other than hunting purposes, and the gun he had was not a hunting gun. Soooo where did he get it, how did he get it, and why did he get it instead of paying his rent? Why is it that people making finger guns sets off her PTSD (if you can call it that) but playing a hyper realistic game about guns that literally has people shooting limbs off doesn't? It's connected to her brain too, so how is she not in constant panic attack mode at all times? I'm not an expert on PTSD, but I'm pretty sure that it doesn't work like that. Especially when it's that bad.
+Rintarou Okabe I'd honestly say that SAO as a beginner anime would be terrible. Poor writing, bland characters and excessive fanservice usually just affirms the basement dwelling creeper stereotype. Like a "Yep, nothing for me here" sort of reaction. Something like Cowboy Bebop or the first FMA (since Brotherhood sort of rushes the first few episodes) are far better candidates as the execution is much better done with a superior set of plot elements with the animation still holding up after all these years. Also, the dubs are really good so no need to read subtitles.
tenou213 Hm. I don't think the fanservice was excessive, but then I haven't seen the series in a couple years, ever since SAO 2 ended. I would agree that there are a lot of other anime that would be better as beginner anime (Silver Spoon for example, also Barakamon, The Devil is a Part-Timer!, etc), but depending on the person you're recommending it to, it just might be their thing. Personally, most of the people I know who I've recommended SAO to have loved it and gone on to watch other anime. Only one person still holds onto it as her favorite, and most of them agree that there are a LOT of better anime out there, but on the whole it's not terrible to use to dip one's toes into the wide spectrum of anime. :) I will say though, that 10 episodes into Log Horizon and I'm already liking it better. Also: Overlord. That was an awesome show. :) Thanks for replying so nicely and informatively, BTW. When SAO comes up, there tends to be a lot of "OMFG, SAO SUX!" that goes around. XP
If there's anything to like about SAO2, it's Mother's Rosario. Seriously though, if there's anything about this series that I would say is worth the watch, it's the first 3 episodes of S1, and all of Mother's Rosario.
+Jonathan “PyraXadon” Tick Eh...Mother's Rosario was such a waste of time to me. It rushed its more emotional parts, and Yuki, like many of the other SAO characters, never grabbed me. To me, the only ok part of SAO was the Excalibur arc, and that's being nice.
+Henry Narukami It's not the best, but it's better than the fairy dance arc. At the very least there was some aspect of character growth, and stuff was written better. Not the best, but better.
progmistro reviews A list of what? Anime with no still frames? Thats basically physically impossible as every anime has at least one moment where no one is doing anything, other wise the anime would have terrible pacing.
I finished Sinon's Ass Online II yesterday, and I'm man enough to admit that it was the first show that ever made me cry. The end of the Mother's Rosario arc almost perfectly paralleled what happened when a huge inspiration of mine passed away last year. How everyone in the whole ALO community gathered around to show their support in Yuuki's last moments, how much of an impact she had on everyone who knew her, how they all swore to carry on her legacy, it really resonated with me, and that's how Sword Art Online of all things made me bawl like an infant.
For me it is, stop at episode 14, and that is it. With the change that you also lambast the creator of the game. As he did kill several thousands of people. instead of trying to make this bastard sympathetic.
Really solid review. Very rare to see this actually. You seem knowledgeable actually with your reference to not just the anime, but also the literary aspects. Subbing. Man you covered pretty much all the issues I had with it and brought up points I never thought of. Well done.
I agree with you. If they make an season 3 of this they should put Lord Kirito (praise be unto him) as a support character and do the season like the Mother Rosario Arc.
+Conan Phung I wanted to say something, but I figured I'd skip it because the comments section would be filled with people saying this. Turns out, you're the only one I can find with a quick search.
Everything wrong with SAO: Kirito Female characters for the only purpose of fanservice Kirito Focusing on female characters' ass too much Kirito Not developing the characters Did I mention Kirito?
Comment sections on videos, are the minority of voices, always. After all you need to be vested enough to make a comment in the first place. Most people still love the show, hence the movie, and probably a season 3 and more movies.
Nathan Wubs its shit...bruh... when u can really really high quality like FMA b, one piece, naruto shipuddin, hxh, black butler, death note, gurren lagann , attack on titan and fairy tail etc. why watch this shit...it's not as successful and universally beloved like these great ones
Chaos King blah blah blah blah blah. I never said that I thought sao was good. I do not know where you even got that. I explained why comments sections are not the norm are not the majority, that is all. my opinion is simple. up till episode 13-14 is an ok nice filler shonen anime, afterwards it goes downhill and turning into a complete kirito is jesus and he needs his harem with loli's, incest, and all the anime cliche type girls.
You know when writing is bad when the Abridged fan dub has better development then the original. 2:46 The Abridged actually made that have effect on him.
oh you hate kirito, well i have GREAT NEWS. next season will get rid of.... almost every character OTHER than kirito. not even joking, kirito is the focus with new people, and all the other chars get next to nothing.
+TheKeyser94 barely in it at all(at least for like the first half anyway. idk i got bored halfway through that giant arc). there is a small outside the game arc that involves her, so she gets more screen time than most, but it's still negligible. of course this is on the assumption it follows the LN
Am I the only one who doesn't mind how powerful Kirito is? I'm kinda sick of the "Main character sucks and has to train to get better" thing that we've been watching for ages. Its nice to see a guy who can kick anyone's ass lol
+Philip Paul What bothers people (Myself included) is that Kirito is able to pull shit out of his ass because of how "amazingly awesome" he is. It's okay for him to be strong, but he's so strong to the point where the MMO's will bend to his will, and it's absolutely ludicrous.
swordfish1390 Well I include that when I say Id mind how op he is. I'm sick of characters getting beaten and then having to go through a ton of bullshit to finally beat that person. I just want someone who can beat anyone! lolz People say they don't like the main character but I do. Idk exactly why but I think he's awesome and I enjoy watching him. Yes he's op but that doesn't make him a bad character it just makes him not like every other anime guy.
+Philip Paul I don't mind Kirito being the way that he is because there are so many anime/manga series where the main character is ordinary that it makes the story take a REALLY long time to move forward. Also, I certainly know that this does not apply to absolutely everyone, but have you noticed how many people complain about Kirito and yet the vast majority of those people are fans of One Punch Man?? Don't get me wrong, I am really enjoying that series as well as I think it is rather good. But talk about the definition of an out-of-the-gate overpowered character.
Philip Paul Him being OP to the point of defying the game's logic is bad writing. He can be strong, that's fine, but being able to break the rules of the game is a Deus Ex Machina, which is basically something that you learn NOT to do in writing 101.
swordfish1390 So what if its Deus Ex Machinaa? Serious Idk why people bitch about this so much. Other series have heroes with that shit all the time and nobody talks about it. This is just a case of people not like Kirito so they bitch about stuff they would never bitch about normally. When I see him "Break the game" I don't think negative crap I think "Wow that's cool" lol srsly Idc.
great animation? Did you forget the worst animated fight scene in the entire series? When they showed the flashback of the Laughing Coffin Raid. Kirito is fighting the guy in the foreground and literally every character in the background is standing still with sparks flying around. And also, season 3 will put Kirito into a support role and the MC will be a MALE CHARACTER. And an actually good written male character (Klein is shit).
I tried watching the first episode, the gun fight scenes completely turned me off. The guns all just sounds so... week. Maybe my taste for shootout scenes has been spoiled by movies like Django Unchained, The Lone Survivor, Heat and John Wick.
My personal thanks to GR for making a review of SAO season 2. I checked ur every video and didn't find a review on it. So I thought of making a personal request on SAO season 2, But here you are with your review. Anyway thank and keep up with the good work
This honestly might be the best review of SAO I have seen. Personally, I watched this anime as it originally aired on Toonami, and I was just getting into anime. As someone who was just looking for a cool action series with video game elements. I was entertained. At least Arkada here, isn't shitting on it considering it a steaming pile of crap that plagued anime. This show is DEFINITELY overrated, and I do consider actual good shows to be a million times better, but I can't ignore that it helped me get into anime. It is better as a gateway anime, and I will never say you should go out of your way to watch it. But if you just want to watch a show that had some cool action, you'll get it.
Kirito isn't the best protagonist, sure, but at least he has the cool warrior's power fantasy covered. Don't bother whiteknighting for Sinon's ass. It's fine as is and it doesn't make her any less badass. It's good. I plan on making a comprehensive SAO review in due time.
+Nathan Wubs She's my wife and both of us have watched tons of anime since the early 90s. I'm a fan of GR by the way, and all I'm saying is that Sinon's outfit doesn't undermine her strength as a character. I'd appreciate it if you could formulate an actual point. Not sure why you've gotta be so negative.
5:25-6:00 ....best lines ever ....we should put that in a fucking frame.....i didn't agree with most of your other videos...but this one ...you just NAILED IT...I also think that if sinon was the main character the anime would've been EPIC
+Pixy Wing I watched his review and most of his problems he pointed out get improved later on >Soma knowing he's going to win He starts to be on the losing end in the second half of the series heck I'm pretty sure before episode 12 he 'fought' with Aldini and drew. Even by saying draws don't count they should because they contradict the point he made saying Soma knows he's going to win when really he did not >Megumi only being just a cute girl She develops as the show progresses, at the beginning she only just passed and got into the academy, towards the end she's one of the top 4 contenders of the qualifiers >dissing the the other characters again they show development and their stance towards the latter half of the show >fanservice only dominant in the first few episodes most of the 'fanservice' scenes later on are played for laughs e.g. Dojima looking like a Sailor scout I can understand if you don't enjoy this anime but the person you referred to made some terrible points rather instead legitimate points would be >despite it being cooking still is shounen Even though Soma does lose is pretty predictable in fact most shounens do this to develop their main character >the qualifier round while this showed the 'effortless' side characters this arc can be a pain because the judges do the same shit to the said characters over and over again, sees food, thinks it shit, tastes it. orgasms
***** he didn't draw with Shinomiya you're getting your facts wrong he lost that fight and said he had to get better Aldini was the one he drew, how is it a missed opportunity when the one you pointed out was when Soma lost
***** Overlord wasn't a trapped in a video game anime tho, but a transported to another world one (which people don't seem to realize), and SAO fucks up the *MMO* setting it presents itself as perfectly (even overlord does it better even when it's not a trapped in a game anime), any person who has even a little experience with MMO's can see that.
The Mother's Rosario arc was pretty much a life boat on the sinking ship that was SAO, couldn't save everything. With that said, I really like the MR arc. Yuuki Konno was freaking awesome and Harem-proof. Probably the only female in the entire show that could give 2 shits about Kirito. The MR arc was so good I actually ran out and bought the book and a box of tissues lol. I wouldn't mind an SAO spinoff involving her and the 3 years she was plugged in. Probably way more interesting than Kirito and his band of merry hoes.
I disagree completely. The only good thing about season II was the potential the death gun arc had... not even the execution. I found Mother's Rosario's arc boring as fuck
You liked the Mothers Rosario arc? Man that was the second worst arc IMO, I hate everything about Asuna and who she is. Asuna is so boring and so generic and simple that I literally predicted everything that was going to happen in that arc, including having Kirito save her AGAIN towards the end of that arc. Man you give too much credit to Asuna, she's one of the worst female characters ever.
Thank you for finally addressing Sound Design in a review. Sound effects can make or break a series for me. Gunsmith Cats and Batman: The Animated Series made me a believer of good Foley work could be done in an animated show instead of the canned sounds we were getting back then.
This comment is like a month old bro. Do you hate them so much that you just had to speak your mind? Also, things can be godawful and terrible and people can still enjoy them. I direct you to the Harry Potter books as an example, or Highschool DxD.
sao will always be one of my favourites this is because i watched its with my logic/ 50% of my brain on dont bother to comprehend just go with the flow...
RealisticAndOptimistic The Abridged version and the anime series are apples and oranges comparisons. Look, I really do enjoy the Abridged series. I think the team that makes it is quite talented, and I relate to their sense of humor quite a bit so I get a kick out of it. However, the Abridged series is to the anime series what Saturday Night Live sketches are to the political debates or whatever else they focus on: it is satire. The Abridged series is taking what we know of a series and satirize it. That is it's only job. And as far as Kirito having a character arc and evolving. You could put a 30 minute video where in a monotone voice you just talk about what a horrible job people are doing taking care of the planet. Then I could put a 15 minute abridged version where I could dub a voice for you that at first talks about how Chipotle has been making you sick, but by the end of the video I have you saying that Taco Bell is the bomb. It is manufactured character evolution, I am making you evolve just to be funny. That is a completely different thing.
How odd. Personally, Guilty Crown is better than SAO, and SAO is boring. But then again, I liked The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) AND the original Spider-Man 2 (2004) and I think Goblet of Fire kinda sucks.
There are four reasons that I watched this series: 1) VRMMOs are one of the things I want to live to see 2)Fight scenes looked great 3)Shinon was a badass 4)Guns are my thing. I feel much more capable in a gun battle than a sword or bow duel.
Am I the one who absolutely hates DUB? Mainly for the reason that they always make sounds and say phrases that would have *never* been said in English.
+Theodor Brekke The only time the English dub actors make sounds is when the Japanese voice actors made sounds in the Japanese track. And as far as using phrases that "would have never been said in English", while it is true that could easily be found in 80s and 90s dubs, starting in the early 2000s with the Cowboy Bebop dub onward, both the quality of English dub actors as well as English script adapters has got much, much better overall.
Theodor Brekke Have you noticed that when the Japanese seiyu does not make a reaction noise, that the English voice actor also does not make a reaction noise? I totally get if you don't care for reaction noises, I am not a huge fan of them either. But you should be complaining about the Japanese for that instead of the English dub counterpart.
Theodor Brekke Just so I make sure I am understanding what you are saying correctly, you are making the argument that Japanese seiyu can make a surprised grunt reaction noise more "genuine and believable" than English voice actors?
It's moreso just a bandwagon to hate SAO. Hating it is just a gut reaction. I mean.. Glass reflection claims he hates it but then basically says he enjoyed it, loved the music and artwork, even loved the premise and at least 1 of the characters. So essentially all of his hate extends from 1 character and a few story progression issues? yeah not buying it.
There are so few anime with over powered main characters (even this doesn't 'fully' fit the bill... not like Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei) that when an anime with an OP MC does come along, I love the change in pace, feel and style of anime :) I also just love OP characters because even though they're not relatable, they're still awesome and I wish I was them :D
Kirito is the embodyment of a 13 year old nerd's wish fullfillment fantasy and SAO as a whole is nothing better than a slimy fanfiction written by said nerdy 13 year old. There, I summed it up for ya.
I Love your reviews Arkada. in comparison to the other ones on UA-cam yours are serious, mature and always well researched. Thanks for keeping me entertained.
Lol at the weeaboos who think all dubs are bad or dubs in general. You're wrong. English(which is the language you speak and yet choose to diss because you're idiots) dubs can sound just as genuine and believable as Japanese. Saying the grunts aren't something an English speaker would do or say is dumb to say. They would.
DS The final light I prefer the subbed version WAYYYY more over a dubbed version mainly because the English voice actors try to hard to act like a Japanese one, and it comes off gut wrenching-ly hard to watch. I dont dismiss dubs just because they arent Japanese, but rather I find the quality to be lacking in comparison to that of the sub.
I completely agree with all the stuff you say, based on the light novels season 3 will be the best season yet by far as long as they don't screw it up. Kirito doesn't really step down from the protagonist role but he does kind of share it with Eugene, the harem is completely removed for the first 6 books (haven't read further than that) and Kirito does get some development
It is hated because it was really overrated when it came out, people where saying that it was the best anime of all time, and it also got really popular. But I do love this anime.
Although I disagree with your thoughts on the anime, that was a very good and interesting review. I love SAO, I can't explain why, but I just get so interested in the characters and story. But your review was really well made to it was interesting to see your POV. I am going to sub to this channel ;)
Nope... tokyo ghoul root a is just so terrible... No sense of direction, many unfinished plots. If they had just followed the manga as every human commenter has said on any root a review... it would be legendary
Both SAO and SAO 2 are interesting cases. They're probably the only anime out there that I think are both underrated AND overrated at the same time. Most people think it's either amazing or complete shit, whereas a select few people agree that it's actually in the middle (though maybe a little bit towards the good end).
I actually did enjoy SAO I (I do acknowledge it is a bad series), although it felt a bit rushed with all the timeskips, just a bit of character development would have been nice. I haven't read the novel though, so I'll just say that if only it didn't omit all the time in between jumps, it would be better. After watching Alicization, I believe a lot of the flaws the anime had are somewhat resolved. PD: If you don't like Kirito at all, you'll like Alicization part II. He is only a minor character there
My problems are: weak plot, OP protagonist for no apparent reason, incredibly boring characters, too much romance and lacking in other categories, the inconsistency of Kirito and Asuna (and just about everyone else), and how the so-called death game anime didn't have a mood of death. And Yui. I don't know why but I fucking hated her.
The problem with the romance is not that it is too much in quantity, it is that it is awfully written. All the girls love Kirito for no reason more than because he "is awesome", all his harem is jealous on one other, but all of them let more girl in and befriend them. It is just plainly stupid as hell.
I'm done. Lasted 1 second. Sorry I can't listen to another "Otaku" who thinks the characters in SAO is shallow while praising boring shit like Log Horizon, God Eater or Attack on Titan. EVERY CURRENT ANIME HAS THE SAME ASS STEREOTYPES WITH THE SAME FUCKING PANT SHOT OF 14 YEAR OLD GIRLS. Get over yourself. I like SAO because it gets to the fucking point. He gets the girls in less than 12 episodes, no drama needed. Every girl knows he's with Asuna so he doesn't have a harem. So every character is cute and one dimensional. Every Anime has that. So the game world doesn't make sense for a RPG. Have you played Destiny? So you didn't like Kirito. Does that stop you from liking everyone else. Sorry it wasn't 300 episodes of drama, but some writer don't like to waste their time with filler to make a soap opera.
Prove it. Prove to me that SAO is shit. Prove to me that a show that studies the extremes of Bartle's Taxonomy and the physiological effects of being stuck in the game. As well as, portray an almost accurate Solo player and PKers. But go ahead and tell me why SAO sucks.
kevilleb lol the review proved. No Unnecessary drama are you kidding?? How about the fact that almost every single female character other than his creepy kid wants or wanted Kiritos dick? Lol even his cousin.
Speaking of fan fiction, years ago, I read an incredibly interesting Kirito/Sinon story that was much more mature in story telling than the original (Asuna also dies in it and it’s pretty heart-wrenching)
I like how the entire first arc could have been solved by tracking the guys IP
LMAO, I'M FUCKING DYING XD
Yeah no.. that is not how that works.
Unless he was the stupidest idiot in the world that is ;)
+toast Shhh.... He's probs a 133t H4x0R, so he somehow hid it.
it's called a vpn
SupaHotFire "Very Powerful Nunchaku"
Funny thing about those three problems is that they're all being fixed in the SAO abridged series
+Athavan Rajasingham you can't polish a shit and make it better
+Athavan Rajasingham well 2 of them, the show still jumps around like a rabbit on speed.
+Spaßtoise You may be pleasantly surprised. Go check it out, it's worth a shot
+DJ_Fu better than the actual series.
+AnimeFlyz I wholeheartedly agree
Negatives
-Kirito
-"Tragic" events that made no sense
-Kirito
-Stop focusing on Shion's ass
-Kirito
Now why do I get the feeling that he doesn't like Kirito? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Ewan McPherson i see it now. Gr8 joke arkata
I don't like that men who are not Kirito are portrayed as evil, stupid, or manipulative. And that all women are portrayed as virtuous, cute, or victims.
I am talking in generalities ofcourse, I know there are a few exceptions.
+Pixy Wing That infamous scene with Asuna from season 2...
+Pixy Wing maybe or he is just using it as a lazy way to make the audience despise the antagonist
rape scenes can happen in books but this is not how to do them
they should always affect the character in some way so that the reader (or viewer whatever)
can see how they deal with it here its just a spur of the moment
and the second its over the female in question is just fine
+frederik vedersø note that rape scenes can also be for males
side note good cases of rape portrayal in story telling is things like
BTW SPOILERS
Guts from Berserk: here its his adoptive father that sells him its a betrayal that haunts him and he later kills his rapist also he doesn't allow people to touch him showing the effects of the rape also its a key point of his backstory
The night angel trilogy (by brent weeks)
here the main characters bestie is raped by the bigger kid named Rat who yes yes is the antagonist but before you say its a lazy way to make us hate him do note that this is but one of many things he did and it was done well because it was meant to solidify the hellish way of life the main characters had in their childhood
I thought that the romance was in the wrong direction for SAO personally. Was anyone else weirded out when Asuna and Kirito adopted an NPC child?
By the way 6:17 That's exactly what I thought!
I know.. It was cringe worthy, why did they call it a "child"?
best part lol!
the whole they drop everything for a couple of episodes so they can be a married couple with a kid was weird and lame.
Bakame!!!
soul eater maybe?
Holy banana FOOL! ... Of course it's Soul Eater, why wouldn't it be?!
FOOL, the middle arch wasn't god awful is was pointless, but a little enjoyable, just a little.
FOOL!! Sure that is true but that didn't help my grandmothers encounter with the bobcats in top hats.
(Reference-ception)
Completely agree with this review, I was disapointed with s2 tbh.
This is more like Sinon's Ass Online
+Brook Fest Yes
😂😂😂
+Brook Fest i agree with this review
+Brook Fest check the subreddit
+Brook Fest SAO2 was boring, and Mother's Rosario didn't even make it better. Tbh, I legit liked season 1 more than I did season 2
The real question is why isn't the name of this season Sinon's Ass Online?
+ARandomGuy Because only part of the season is about Sinon.
+andrewkful Still has more of Sinon's ass than swords.
If it would have that name, i might concider watching it.
+ARandomGuy It had swords?
+DMC1 yeah, it had "swords" (Lenny face)
The abridged series, I believe, really improves on the characters and to some extent the story. It highlights the problems Kirito should have and acknowledges the negative personality traits he has
It's awesome how true this is lol. They did a great job.
SAO Abridge is, even taking off his funny fan-fic nature, way better than SAO.
+ He actually gets a way better character development. IN ABRIDGED.
Yes. Best Abridged series ever (sorry TFS).
And the new SAO Alternative. The new writer was like: "hey Leki, I like you, gonna let you finish; but this how you write characters, tell a story, and make a VR setting."
*How people view rating :*
Enjoyment
+
Characters

Story

etc.
*How I view rating :*
Characters
+
Story = Enjoyment = Rating
+
etc.
Ok, so here's the million-dollar question: DOES HE GET AN ACTUAL PERSONALITY?
***** I find that hard to believe, since it would break one of the twelve commandments of writing. XI: Kirito cannot ever get a personality
spoilers :o
***** As if the rest needed help looking like shit.
Probably the best arc was mothers rosario
Not after alice comes.
Yessssss
Hunter Patrick Lindsey I liked the first part the best.
It was,
•Mothers Rosario
•GGO
•Exaclibur ark and mothers Rosario was like a 8/10 ggo was horrible except for the opening and excalibur ark was a disgraceful 1/10, Hot garbage let's hope Sao III, aka alciteration ark does better and fixes everything besides ordinal scale was pretty good
TheRightPerson I’ve heard mixed things about Ordinal scale.
InB4 worthless arguments in the comment section about how good/bad this series is
Time to get popcorn
+DragonAce028 I dont know whats worse, people discussing the series or someone like you... Actually i do.
DragonAce028
I honestly prefer those than people who go "Oh better grab the popcorn because this gon b good" because atleast they have something original to say.
+DragonAce028 It's bad series, nothing to argument
"The negatives of this show:
Kirito
Kirito
Kirito"
XD
and not giving Sinon her own season, followed by "Kirito"
Series finale : Kirito performs seppuku 10/10 ending
+Rutin Acuzza XD oh my gosh
+Rutin Acuzza Well that escalated quickly...
Aran Tang well I agree😂
The only reason I care about SAO is because of the Mother's Rosario Arc.
Agreed. That arc was the only respectable arc in season two.
yeah, i guess. i liked it more than GGOs arc because the only good thing about it as a hole was Sinon, or Shion as she was translated, but it fell appart as a hole because writters just fucking love their harem for some reason.
Still think Sinon is the best character in the series though, that wont change
Really that and Sleeping Knights should just have been the show. Honestly if they had cut out Kirito and Asuna and pretended like the entire previous SAO hadn't existed, the show would've been much better.
Umm... Mother's Rosario was really shitty imo.
+Edenharley Why?
I almost cried at the end of season 2's second arc. ALMOST.
edit: I cried
Same
It's okay. Don't mind what other's Say. Mother's Rosario is a lot better and really good.
I googled My Immortal and I thank you so much for this beautiful gift.
Thomas Revill my Immortal is the best fanfic ever
I used to read fanfics like My immortal and Sonic High School aloud with friends during lunch. The idea was to hold back the laughter, if you laughed, the next person would start reading from where you laughed
I actually really liked the 2nd season.
Sinon and Rekken were amazing characters, and the show didn't waste half of it's time on an arc with no weight or consequences like the ALO arc in season 1.
I still find Kirito an entertaining and likable characters, and combined with the two new characters, it was really fun.
I miss badass Asuna though.
Sinon sucks
Might give my review too.
its shit.
done.
+SwagDoritoKingToukaGhoulAssEatingNigga Kaneki Yup SAO allways will be shit
agreed indeed.
Same
Nice👌🏻
+SwagDoritoKingToukaGhoulAssEatingNigga Kaneki Legit
You really need to review Monster.
It's one of the best animes ever made.
animeguyreviews He doesn't always buy the anime he reviews. Hyouka, for example, never got an official western release.
+deadlysnakeman I think he tries to avoid series that are that long
I don't think the show is that long. I mean, he reviewed Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, which is about the same length.
+Senpai Filmworks he also didn't buy Hunter x Hunter.
I would be happy for a whole month if he reviewed that anime
Sword art online seasons 1 & 2 are on Netflix and they are subbed, that's how I watched this series
Also, as always, SAOs writers still would be horrible, horrible game designers.
+MichiTippyAnime That's the same author? I had no idea
Dude I see you everywhere xD
cutelilly1000vedios Really? Huh. I don't think I'm that prolific of a commentor.
17:10 It should be Mother's Rosario.
And please, she's Sinon not Shion.
+TMadara Yet, Sinon is spoken as Shion, lol.
+Pixy Wing Thanks... is the Shion-thing just something - awkward I can't remember the reviewer's name nor make it out clearly this video - did?
Why is this episode so good because everyone in the comment section likes it but i don't see a single one who says why?
The biggest problem with SAO is it was billed as a fighting Anime when it was more of a slice of life Anime. That is false advertising if you ask me! The other problem is that it was written from the first person narrative in the light novels. No adaptation necessary. We only see one or two different characters get any meaningful development every arc. We'd probably have seen more Asuna character development in the Aincrad arc but that one was all over the place. The mother's Rosario arc only really developed to characters as well. The Sinon, Kirito, and the rest were all sidelined for that story. Even Asuna's mother didn't really get much development from that arc.
Why WOULD YOU VOTE FOR SAO!!! SO much anime and you vote for Fucking SAO -.-
+NeoChromer Bashing SAO is like a drug man,you can't stop so easily.
tell me about it it's only popular because all the people fresh outta naruto and bleach are dumb enough to like it
+Edens Echo lol
Controversy
Seihai-kun hahahaha +1 indeed.. Love to Hate it!
Just gonna be that guy to point something out but @8:34, he says LAO instead of ALO. Doesn't bother me too much but I decided to say this anyways because I can
+VegettoDoesGaming Luscious Asses Online
+Glass Reflection I deffentily recommended the videogame hollow fragment and lost song if you want a really good story if the anime followed this story it would be much better tho I'm still in the beginning of lost song to rate the story
+Kurausukun tell that to the video games
+Kurausukun it's how he pronounces it I pronounce Kirito as Ki-Di-to kidito
+Kurausukun I can't prove that this is right, but it's possible that the sub/dub of the home release DVD/Blu-Ray he watched spelled it as "Shion". Just maybe.
"Kirito is the lord god, praise be on to him." That made me laugh really hard lol
Had me dying of laughter at the end:
-Kirito
-"Tragic" events made no sense
-Kirito
-Stop focusing on Sinon's ass
-Kirito
He's not wrong.
Sword art online progessive would be amazing as an anime, it is the original SAO with Asuna as the main charcter
+MichiTippyAnime Correct. When the first books were written it started everything on floor 50 with flash backs of day 1 in chapter 4. Progressive actually says what happens from Asuna's view as much as Kirito's on floor 2+
+Sora Slayer (Kiraandl) SAO progressive would be talk about kiritos kintype and gender of guns.
8:20 preach it my man 👏👏 you're the only anime reviewer I've seen actually touch on the subject and so I thank you ❤
No seriously has anyone notice that 1/4 of the SAO series ISNT IN SAO!!
I think you mean that 3/4 isn't in SAO
Wasn't SAO shut down after the first arc?
+LMG Blurr Counting the novels, about 2 and a half out of 16+ novels are set in sao
+Angelo Cruz Yes, the "Sword Art Online game" was shutdown, but at the end of the first season Aincrad was added into ALO.
+Rintarou Okabe Exactly! SAO is a great beginner anime for people. It's what got me into anime!
I will say though, that 10 episodes into Log Horizon and I'm already liking it better. Also: Overlord. That was an awesome show. :)
Thanks for replying so nicely and informatively, BTW. When SAO comes up, there tends to be a lot of "OMFG, SAO SUX!" that goes around. XP
I hope the third season would be as goos as the mother Rosario arc
Mother's Rosario was shit...
Well it was the only arc that was actually meaningful
And Yuuki wasnt one of Kiritos side chicks thank god
Mareena M
but then they decided to kill her....
@@leenselwadi2503 As a viewer, it was sad sometime sad ending is the best
If there's anything to like about SAO2, it's Mother's Rosario. Seriously though, if there's anything about this series that I would say is worth the watch, it's the first 3 episodes of S1, and all of Mother's Rosario.
+Jonathan “PyraXadon” Tick Eh...Mother's Rosario was such a waste of time to me. It rushed its more emotional parts, and Yuki, like many of the other SAO characters, never grabbed me. To me, the only ok part of SAO was the Excalibur arc, and that's being nice.
+Jonathan “PyraXadon” Tick But...that was also a poorly written piece of shit.
+Henry Narukami It's not the best, but it's better than the fairy dance arc. At the very least there was some aspect of character growth, and stuff was written better. Not the best, but better.
lel mother rosario tried to aggresively to squeeze the tears out of the viewers. didnt work for me. Zzzzzz
+AshXXMayftw "the excalibur arc" wish it would be more like soul eaters excalibur arc :P
7:04
I PUKED
OMFG
EEEEW
-says that animation is great
-doesnt realize that this is a still frame
-doesnt realize that animation isnt consistant especially this shot
progmistro reviews Eh. I'm just talking bout how much that scene disgusts me.
+progmistro reviews Every anime has still frames. That doesn't mean the animation is bad.
Also, where is the inconsistent animation?
DBZHGWgamer I'll give you a list later on just give me an hour
progmistro reviews A list of what?
SAO overall is all icing and no cake; and is a textbook example of great animation and sound doesn't make an anime good
For me it is, stop at episode 14, and that is it. With the change that you also lambast the creator of the game. As he did kill several thousands of people. instead of trying to make this bastard sympathetic.
Nathan oh man you have patience, I stopped at episode 7 lol
Mike nazzal I stopped at episode 5
"I guess 1 outta 3 aint bad" lol man that cracked me up
Really solid review. Very rare to see this actually. You seem knowledgeable actually with your reference to not just the anime, but also the literary aspects. Subbing. Man you covered pretty much all the issues I had with it and brought up points I never thought of. Well done.
Shion? I think you mean Sinon.
Yes but even so, it is spoken as Shinon, not Shion.
+Aniki_ Shino Asada.
***** I know, but it's Shino not Shinon.
The mother's Rosario arc was amazing because Kirito was barely there. Hallelujah!
I agree with you. If they make an season 3 of this they should put Lord Kirito (praise be unto him) as a support character and do the season like the Mother Rosario Arc.
"Shion"... "Shion"... I'm done.
(Good review though)
+Conan Phung I wanted to say something, but I figured I'd skip it because the comments section would be filled with people saying this. Turns out, you're the only one I can find with a quick search.
Everything wrong with SAO:
Kirito
Female characters for the only purpose of fanservice
Kirito
Focusing on female characters' ass too much
Kirito
Not developing the characters
Did I mention Kirito?
Laura Henriques you forgot kirito
Yup all that and the fact that the storyline and dialog are absolute shit
Im surprised how negative the comment section is of the show given its popularity cool
Popular =/= good specialy anime,i mean do u know otaku and weeb reputation is bad so does their shitty taste? Thats why this shit is popular
you should review the megaman nt warrior/rock man.exe anime.
+Rock Light
Surprising not bad of a show, but that might be my nostalgia talking.
the last episode i have watched was the first introduction of bass.
pretty good, sad mega man X or Zero didn't get a series but this is fine
+Rock Light YES.
+Rock Light nah, he should wait untll the sequels are subbed, whats probably going to take another year or so
You know when writing is bad when the Abridged fan dub has better development then the original. 2:46 The Abridged actually made that have effect on him.
Come on, man!!! ... "My Immortal" is a classic!! :D
Pers Godiva No it isn’t.
oh you hate kirito, well i have GREAT NEWS. next season will get rid of.... almost every character OTHER than kirito. not even joking, kirito is the focus with new people, and all the other chars get next to nothing.
+Syllaren Even Asuna?
+TheKeyser94 barely in it at all(at least for like the first half anyway. idk i got bored halfway through that giant arc). there is a small outside the game arc that involves her, so she gets more screen time than most, but it's still negligible. of course this is on the assumption it follows the LN
Syllaren If it wasn't a teenage power fantasy before, now certainly it is.
TheKeyser94 on the plus side kirito gets shot... so that was fun.
I'm gonna cry...
Nobody's gonna talk how Kirito became a mecatronics god
Nice review. I think you really nailed the pros and cons at the end. Shion and Mother's Rosario were the highlights.
It's okay for him to be strong, but he's so strong to the point where the MMO's will bend to his will, and it's absolutely ludicrous.
swordfish1390
Well I include that when I say Id mind how op he is. I'm sick of characters getting beaten and then having to go through a ton of bullshit to finally beat that person. I just want someone who can beat anyone! lolz
People say they don't like the main character but I do.
He can be strong, that's fine, but being able to break the rules of the game is a Deus Ex Machina, which is basically something that you learn NOT to do in writing 101.
swordfish1390
So what if its Deus Ex Machinaa?
7:04
+AnimeFlyz
will season 3 be alicization arc?
YTaccNo3 yes. What else will it be. Also dont forget the SAO movie. Lolz.
progmistro reviews ok then.
*****
AnimeFlyz
they can't possibly fuck up alicization, right? i mean if they actually do make eugeo the main char in that one.
Finally! A review that shows clips of the anime being reviewed and not just speaks in front of a camera! Subbed!
Kirito vs Sora from No game No life, WHO WOULD WIN.
Sora obviously
The fight was over before it begun
+Houdini111 Yes, yes it was.
Of course Sora would if it was a strategic battle. Blank never loses
+Zona Anderson Blank doesn't loose. They would reach checkmate before the fight began.
I tried watching the first episode, the gun fight scenes completely turned me off. The guns all just sounds so... week. Maybe my taste for shootout scenes has been spoiled by movies like Django Unchained, The Lone Survivor, Heat and John Wick.
+Redlime oww but you do not need to focus on the guns, as they are not important. Kirito has his Light saber so no need to even care about the guns.
***** There are quite a few anime with good gunplay. Gungrave which was mentioned in the last one being one of them.
***** Black lagoon was awesome I event watched the OVA!
Hellsing ultimate. That's gunfights done right.
My personal thanks to GR for making a review of SAO season 2. I checked ur every video and didn't find a review on it. So I thought of making a personal request on SAO season 2, But here you are with your review. Anyway thank and keep up with the good work
"Don't Google My Immortal"?! Are you deliberately trying to keep people from having fun?
He is trying to keep people from being bored and grossed out
Seriously, only read it if only to laugh at the incoherent clusterfuck that it is. There is no other way to gain any form of enjoyment out of it.
+Jordan Smith I thought that was the point of my immortal
William Landon "Bored and grossed out"? Have you even read My Immortal?
Jordan Smith Thatsthepoint.jpg
+OtakuDaiKun I hope you have grown up then, watched more anime, maybe became more aware, and more. And you even have gf your on your show, sad.
Sinon is bae.
That is all.
The only good thing about sao 2
+pioltjose23 Agreed
lol. yup
Bae=shit in danish so yeah I agree sinon is shit
+Jack Chapman If only she's not in the great harem. It ruined her character completely.
Arkada reviewing SAO2, get your safety goggles because there's a lot of debris in a train wreak.
5:25-6:00 ....best lines ever ....we should put that in a fucking frame.....i didn't agree with most of your other videos...but this one ...you just NAILED IT...I also think that if sinon was the main character the anime would've been EPIC
Review Shogugeki No Souma fully. The anime was amazing.
+Pixy Wing fk opinions aye? xD
+Pixy Wing
I watched his review and most of his problems he pointed out get improved later on
>Soma knowing he's going to win
He starts to be on the losing end in the second half of the series heck I'm pretty sure before episode 12 he 'fought' with Aldini and drew. Even by saying draws don't count they should because they contradict the point he made saying Soma knows he's going to win when really he did not
>Megumi only being just a cute girl
She develops as the show progresses, at the beginning she only just passed and got into the academy, towards the end she's one of the top 4 contenders of the qualifiers
>dissing the the other characters
again they show development and their stance towards the latter half of the show
>fanservice
only dominant in the first few episodes most of the 'fanservice' scenes later on are played for laughs e.g. Dojima looking like a Sailor scout
I can understand if you don't enjoy this anime but the person you referred to made some terrible points rather instead legitimate points would be
>despite it being cooking still is shounen
Even though Soma does lose is pretty predictable in fact most shounens do this to develop their main character
>the qualifier round
while this showed the 'effortless' side characters this arc can be a pain because the judges do the same shit to the said characters over and over again, sees food, thinks it shit, tastes it. orgasms
***** kk. i still enjoyed it.
*****
he didn't draw with Shinomiya
you're getting your facts wrong he lost that fight and said he had to get better
Aldini was the one he drew, how is it a missed opportunity when the one you pointed out was when Soma lost
Second season hyyypppe
god sao is the worst but it seems to just stay in the background so its fine
I don't blame a1 too much as the light novel was also trash
hiesenberg Yet people say that the Matrix sequels were bad...
And you have Christina as your youtube image so I agree with whatever you say :D
I think that it's both not the best or worst
Omg! This video "like" to ratio is hella good, was expecting more dislikes but, no. Just shows how good of a review GR did. Goodjob!
*Grabs Popcorn* Oh, this is gonna be good.
+Jasper Daugaard *gets the butter* anymore for me?
Joris De Vos*hands popcorn over* Of course, go nuts
Ill make my own bag, sorry, I dont share popcorn that well. And I like Butter Lovers kind.
GET YER POPCORN !!!! ONE LIKE PER MEGA SIZED CUP !!! FREE DRINK !!!🍿+🍺
Well... At least the concept was generi-- oh wait.. That's not a good thing now is it?
+Nanocrafters Wasn't Generic when SAO I came out.
+Dynasty Star It was borderline generic at that point
+Dynasty Star Well, this is SAO II now, isn't it?
***** And SAO fucks it up perfectly
***** Overlord wasn't a trapped in a video game anime tho, but a transported to another world one (which people don't seem to realize), and SAO fucks up the *MMO* setting it presents itself as perfectly (even overlord does it better even when it's not a trapped in a game anime), any person who has even a little experience with MMO's can see that.
IMO:
Sao -terrible from a critical view, but still enjoyable af
Sao II- terrible from a critical view, and unenjoyable
let the flame war begin..........
I found Mother's Rosario's arc boring as fuck
i do agree that sleeping knights is the best arc in season 2 of SAO II ever period.
CAUSE YOU GOTTA GO FAST!!!!
Yeah asunas character is a piece of undeveloped harem bait shit but at least Yuuki was developed and not one of Kiritos side bitches
I enjoyed the Mother's Rosario arc but it had absolutely nothing to do with Asuna and everything to do with Yuuki.
Thank you for finally addressing Sound Design in a review. Sound effects can make or break a series for me. Gunsmith Cats and Batman: The Animated Series made me a believer of good Foley work could be done in an animated show instead of the canned sounds we were getting back then.
SAO was one of the most poorly executed light novel adaptations of all time, and it lost so much in translation considering how much I enjoy the LNs.
bullshit the LNs were just as godawful and terrible
This comment is like a month old bro. Do you hate them so much that you just had to speak your mind? Also, things can be godawful and terrible and people can still enjoy them. I direct you to the Harry Potter books as an example, or Highschool DxD.
Three weeks isn't a month and there really isn't any rule saying he can't comment after a time limit.
I know, I just totally forgot I posted this and no longer care about the subject.
That's your fault for posting your opinion on the internet. What you say here is immortalized.
Log horizon? The most boring thing i've watched.
Btooom! on the other hand, now that's an epic anime!
sao will always be one of my favourites this is because i watched its with my logic/ 50% of my brain on dont bother to comprehend just go with the flow...
+1 sub btw
If you want to see a better version of SAO, go watch the abridged series by SWE.
+Stein I enjoy the Abridged version quite a bit. But a funnier version does not make it a better series.
+Peter Aguilar The reason that it is better is because Kirito contrary to the anime has a character arc and evolves.
The abridged and the anime are only apples and oranges if the oranges have spoiled and talked about subject matters that it knows shit about.
I enjoyed SAO more than Guilty Crown
the lesser of two evils
That's because as bad as Guilty Crown was, it was at least somewhat watchable where plot is concerned.
How odd. Personally, Guilty Crown is better than SAO, and SAO is boring. But then again, I liked The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) AND the original Spider-Man 2 (2004) and I think Goblet of Fire kinda sucks.
There are four reasons that I watched this series:
1) VRMMOs are one of the things I want to live to see
2)Fight scenes looked great
3)Shinon was a badass
4)Guns are my thing.
Peter Aguilar Reaction noises in dub simply needs to be cut out, instead of it being some ridiculous noise in english.
Peter Aguilar When the Japanese does it, it sounds much more genuine and believable compared to dubs.
Theodor Brekke Just so I make sure I am understanding what you are saying correctly, you are making the argument that Japanese seiyu can make a surprised grunt reaction noise more "genuine and believable" than English voice actors?
is it me or do youtubers have something againts sao? einshine glass reflection anime man maybe misty im not sure about him -.-
It's moreso just a bandwagon to hate SAO.
Just watch a lot more anime if u can then u will finally realise "ah i understand now,sao is indeed a shitshow, those youtuber are right"
There are so few anime with over powered main characters (even this doesn't 'fully' fit the bill... not like Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei) that when an anime with an OP MC does come along, I love the change in pace, feel and style of anime :)
I also just love OP characters because even though they're not relatable, they're still awesome and I wish I was them :D
Praise be lord Kirito
Nick Saber :D
They would.
He is not saying dubs are bad. He is stating that his opinion of the dubs of SAO 1 and 2 are not good.
+Alexander Castro-Vera I think he was talking about the other people in the comments, not Arkada.
DS The final light there are some shows where I prefer the Dub like gurran Laggan. But I cant bear some shows (looking at you Aot)
Dubs in English language are horrible (except all Dragon Ball animes).
negative points:
-kirito
-kirito
-kirito
Too bad he will be in SAO Season 3, better for you to stick with SAO GGO Alternative.
Please review Xam'd...
Please
+mrsuperbuckets that series is so obscure i doubt we will ever see a review for that from him , unfortunately cause its pretty good
+mrsuperbuckets ....how do you read that O_O
I really don't understand the hate this series
watch review
It is hated because it was really overrated when it came out, people where saying that it was the best anime of all time, and it also got really popular. But I do love this anime.
cringy romance.
forced drama.
lame villains.
disgusting fapservice
shit pacing
asuna
yui
that incest girl
+Guts the black swordman The most interesting girl is made into a weak damsel in distress.
Bc kirito is one of the worst main characters of all times
Although I disagree with your thoughts on the anime, that was a very good and interesting review. I love SAO, I can't explain why, but I just get so interested in the characters and story. But your review was really well made to it was interesting to see your POV. I am going to sub to this channel ;)
he should do tokyo ghoul root a or noragami....
OR OURAN HIGHSCHOOL HOST CLUB
Nope... tokyo ghoul root a is just so terrible... No sense of direction, many unfinished plots. If they had just followed the manga as every human commenter has said on any root a review... it would be legendary
+Gerry Da Silva i actually want him to do highschool dxd just for laughs
+Gerry Da Silva He just did a Noragami review~
Anime Place
that *plot* tho. I especially like the Rias *character development* 😊
Sword Art Online (2) is one of the most overrated anime of All Time.
Both SAO and SAO 2 are interesting cases. They're probably the only anime out there that I think are both underrated AND overrated at the same time. Most people think it's either amazing or complete shit, whereas a select few people agree that it's actually in the middle (though maybe a little bit towards the good end).
MajorLeagueGamer838 Don't get me wrong, it's pretty good, but it's not the masterpiece a lot of people make it out to be.
dragonofdarknes4 I agree. But it's far from the piece of shit a lot of haters claim it is.
+MajorLeagueGamer838 I enjoyed SAO and SAO 2 it has quite a few flaws kinda a guilty pleasure of mine
Legendary Swordsman I'm the same. I guess I'm just pretty good at turning my brain off.
He is only a minor character there
SAO is shit. Enough said.
No.
True
Shit is better than SAO
Sorry it wasn't 300 episodes of drama, but some writer don't like to waste their time with filler to make a soap opera.
why the fuck you lying why you always lying
really this is shit anime
Prove it. Prove to me that SAO is shit. Prove to me that a show that studies the extremes of Bartle's Taxonomy and the physiological effects of being stuck in the game. As well as, portray an almost accurate Solo player and PKers.
But go ahead and tell me why SAO sucks.
+kevilleb the video says it self this anime is indeed shit
kevilleb lol the review proved. No Unnecessary drama are you kidding?? How about the fact that almost every single female character other than his creepy kid wants or wanted Kiritos dick? Lol even his cousin.
Okay, if I wasn't already subbed. the My Immortal line would've sold me.
Speaking of fan fiction, years ago, I read an incredibly interesting Kirito/Sinon story that was much more mature in story telling than the original (Asuna also dies in it and it’s pretty heart-wrenching)
